The two s-rank awakened continued the stare of as Evelyn coldly asked.
"My son was assaulted in your city. I want you to provide answers. Now."
"Your son?" For a moment Draven was startled, not recalling Evelyn giving birth to anyone, however he quickly recalled her step son.
’The useless unawakened?’ Although he thought about this, he didnt dare state it.
Although they were both s-rank awakeners, Evelyn was a madwoman. If he angered her and she lost her temper countless lives would be lost.
If it was any other moment, where the other 2 s-rank awakeners were present then he wouldn’t give her much face, however now they had gone to explore a new crack that appeared in the extreme south he was left alone to watch over the affairs of the city.
’It seems he was just assaulted and not killed, if not she would have began a bloodbath.’
Draven quickly assessed the situation, quickly arriving at an answer.
"Can I know the details of the fighters? What was their goal? Were they just targeting him because of you?" Draven asked her a series of questions similarly curious himself.
Evelyn folder her arms.
"If I knew that would I come here demanding answers from you?"
"Right." Draven realized how stupid his questions sounded and fell silent, not knowing how to reply her.
"I’ll investigate it and get back to you, okay?" He forced a wry smile.
Evelyn remained silent for a few seconds before finally replying slowly.
"Just one day," she held her slender finger up, "I’ll give you just one day, after that i’ll begin my own investigation myself."
Draven cursed internally, understanding what letting Evelyn investigate meant.
He couldn’t allow that if not the balance of the society would be greatly disrupted.
’This woman needs to be kept under control! What is the headquarters doing letting such a mad woman roam about freely?’ Draven was pissed internally but he still forced a smile.
"I’ll get back to you as soon as..." he didnt even finish his words when Evelyn vanished.
"Bitch!" Draven couldn’t help but curse, feeling a wave of anger at the rude departure.
Swoosh!
Just then, the air distorted slightly and he felt something whistle past him.
Draven spurted a mouthful of blood and glanced down.
He realized a short dagger had been embedded in his chest, it stopped just a hair’s breadth away from his heart.
Clearly if the attacker wanted his heart to be destroyed they could have done that in an instant.
Draven broke out into cold sweat, terrified of the situation.
He glanced around and spotting no one he realized it had to be Evelyn’s doing.
’How is she so strong?!’
Although he had heard rumors about the empress of destruction he hadn’t thought much about it, however now he realized how terrifying she truly was.
’Could this be why the headquarters fears her? We’re both s-rank awakeners but she can kill me in a single attack without me being able to react.’
The more Draven thought about it the more terrified he became.
The gave the direction she stood previously a long look before removing the dagger from his chest and vanishing back into his office.
The moment he arrived at his office, the investigation began.
...
Evelyn returned home soon after, deciding to leave Draven to handle everything.
If he didnt provide results in a day, she’d have to handle it all herself.
However she doubted the likelihood of that happening. With the little bit of strength she displayed, it was enough warning to make Draven understand he shouldn’t play jokes with her.
Evelyn returned to find her son taking breakfast. He’d prepared a cereal while she was away.
She decided to act as though everything was normal between them so her son wouldn’t feel weirded out.
She still blamed the events of the previous night on herself to a certain extent.
It was as though by teasing him, she had unlocked something forbidden inside him.
"Mom, you’re back. Where did you go to?" I asked, interrupting Evelyn’s thoughts.
"Just to settle a few things." Evelyn replied taking the seat beside me with a warm smile replacing her previously frosty expression.
"Uh... I have a date planned for later today, is that alright with you?" I asked curiously.
"A date?" Evelyn frowned slightly.
"Who’s the girl? Is she dangerous? Does she have siblings? Where does she stay?"
"Relax, mom." I felt exasperated by my mom’s behavior.
Evelyn took a deep breath and smiled once more.
She didnt know why but she felt a pinch in her heart.
Was her son just using her for ’that’ stuff?
Perhaps he didnt like her but girls his age?
She figured she was an old woman, was she really expecting a youth such as her son to like her?
Evelyn felt a wave of discomfort in her heart.
"Mom?!" My voice sliced through her thoughts once more.
"You keep getting lost in thoughts throughout today, are you sure you’re alright?" I asked, worried about my mother.
I’d never seen her like this before.
Evelyn smiled wryly,
"It’s nothing, I’m just thinking about how much my baby has grown. You’re even going on a date now. With someone you like." Evelyn felt a pinch in her heart as she added the last part.
"I won’t really say I like her..." I muttered as I took another spoonful of the cereal.
"It’s just a date for now."
Evelyn’s eyes lit up at my words. For reasons unknown to her she felt pleased internally.
"So... what’s this girl like? Have mummy seen her? Is she at college?"
"Mmm..." I nodded wth a smile. "Her name is may yuna I think." I replied quickly.
"What’s she like?"
My mother seemed particularly eager to gain information about may from me.
"I dunno really. She’s cute I guess." I replied after a little bit of thought, the image of the scene in the car flashing through my mind.
"Cute? Cute...." Evelyn mumbled the words as though she was contemplating on them.
’He called me beautiful before... does he think I’m cute too?’ Evelyn thought internally, silently comparing Herself to this may girl who had managed to captivate her son’s attention.
