A tent, its exterior embroidered with countless beautiful patterns and adorned with various exquisite decorations, stood protected in the center of the camp. Knights in Plate Armor, their faces solemn, patrolled the perimeter.
They presented a completely different picture from the soldiers in Leather Armor on the outskirts.
This showed just how high the status of the person living inside was.
"Miss Liya." The Knights clearly knew Liya. They placed their hands over their chests in a respectful salute, and the two walked into the tent unimpeded.
The moment he opened the tent flap, Levi almost thought he was a deeply sinful believer stepping into the Holy Light Church, ready to be judged by the Holy Blade of Under the Pope’s Crown. He couldn’t control his emotions, and a curse slipped out: "Worri, has your Lord stumbled into a den of Holy Light Sect followers?"
The Lord couldn’t be blamed for his overreaction; the Holy Light before him was just too blinding. The view was filled with nothing but golden brilliance, stinging his eyes and forcing him to squint.
Unlike tents lit by candles or braziers, this one was filled with a golden radiance. Only the faint silhouette of a person could be seen in the center of the tent.
"My sincere apologies."
A cool, clear voice drifted over, and in the next instant, the blinding light vanished completely.
"My meditation has caused you some trouble."
"Shit," the curse rang out again.
The blinding light vanished. Inside the tent, there weren’t dozens of Clergy from the Holy Light Church, only a single young woman.
The real reason the Lord lost his composure again was the young woman. She was dressed in a red and white Church Robe of the Holy Light Church, holding an exquisite Magic Staff inlaid with a Magic Stone. She wore a Gilded Bishop’s Hat, and a delicate mask concealed her face from the eyes up, revealing only the tip of her nose and a small, cherry-like mouth.
Her long golden hair was woven into a braid, dazzling as if spun from gold itself.
Although the young woman had not revealed her full face, the Lord was certain that an incredibly beautiful one lay hidden beneath the mask.
At a glance, she looked as holy as an angel.
"Liya, who is this?" Levi whispered.
’Just look at her clothes. She’s definitely part of the Holy Light Church, and her rank isn’t low!’
"Levi, my name is Fatir Saint Delirium Heart." The young woman’s vibrant red lips moved as she spoke again, her tone now carrying a hint of a smile.
"I’ve often heard Liya speak of you. I was the one who originally wrote down the Holy Word Treasure Manual for her."
Startled, Levi subtly nudged Liya with his elbow, demanding an explanation.
"Levi, this is Her Highness Saintess of the Holy Light Church." Liya rubbed her aching arm, giving him a resentful look. ’This Lord of High Cliff Castle really doesn’t know the first thing about being gentle with a lady.’
"Ahem, my dear Miss Liya, this is some truly jaw-dropping aid you’ve brought." Levi nearly choked, using the coughs to cover his shock.
’The aid Liya had managed to secure was truly astounding.’
’After all, in terms of status, His Holiness the Pope of the Holy Light Church was an absolutely transcendent figure, in some ways no less than the King. And the Saintess was generally the Pope’s designated successor, so one could only imagine how high her status was.’
’And now, a person like that had come to aid *him*?’
’What was the difference between this and a Princess coming to the aid of a common Knight?’
’More importantly, she represented the face of the Holy Light Church. Her coming to aid them could be seen as the Church taking a side.’
"Thank you for the Holy Word Treasure Manual, Your Highness. I have benefited greatly from it."
The two approached the Saintess and sat in chairs padded with red velvet cushions. Levi was the first to break the silence.
"In truth, the first stage of the Holy Word Treasure Manual isn’t considered very precious. The Church Court no longer clings to the old ways. To continue treating a worn-out broom as a treasure would only lead to the complete extinction of the Holy Knight lineage."
Fatir’s voice was cool and clear, seemingly devoid of emotion, yet it held an inexplicable warmth.
"I imagine you’re wondering why I’m here." She laid her Magic Staff across her lap and leaned forward, resting her interlocked, gold-gloved hands on the table as she faced Levi.
Even though she wore a mask that only revealed her mouth and nose, Levi had the distinct feeling that Her Highness Saintess was looking right at him. He nodded. "I would indeed like to know why."
’To be honest, he’d guessed the aid Liya sought would be Clergy from the Church Court, or perhaps some apprentice knights who had yet to pledge themselves to a Feudal Lord.’
’But he had never imagined that the Saintess of the Holy Light Church would grace them with her presence.’
’He had been hoping for the strongest aid possible, but this was so far beyond his expectations that it made him uneasy.’
"There are three reasons. First, the Holy Light Church and the Northern Territory are currently in a honeymoon period, so my coming here is not entirely baseless." At this, she turned to Liya. "Second, Liya and I are close personal friends. Faced with the awful situation she finds herself in, I could not simply stand by and do nothing."
"And the third reason?" Levi pressed.
’For some reason, he had a feeling the third reason would be the most important.’
"I hear you have been practicing the Holy Word Treasure Manual." She "looked" at the Lord, her tone both a question and a statement. "Liya mentioned in a letter that you have already advanced to the Firefly stage. By my calculations, from the time you obtained the Treasure Manual to your advancement, it has likely been no more than two months."
"First, allow me to make a small correction." A smile spread across the Lord’s face as he held up a single finger. "It actually only took me a single night to advance to the Firefly stage."
