By all rights, even though the team from Wolf Island had lost, they had at least taken down about ten Beastmen. Their participants had fought with extreme ferocity, so it could definitely be called an honorable defeat.

But there was no smile on Monvert’s face. He gave Levi a deep look, his expression complicated and his tone resigned. "Levi, there’s no need for this. I’m afraid Miss Liya didn’t tell you that I despise this sort of pretense. A loss is a loss. That’s a fact no one can refute!"

As a veteran Martial Arts Master, Monvert had a comprehensive understanding of combat and naturally knew a great deal about wrestling. Of course he could tell that these Beastman Warriors from High Cliff Castle were perfectly fine.

"Damn it! Look at your over-the-top acting! You blew your cover on the very first try!" Levi roared in frustration at the Barbarians on the ground.

The piercing groans came to an abrupt halt. The dozen or so Beastmen scrambled up from the ground, dusted themselves off, and wore aggrieved expressions.

They had never lost a battle since they began fighting, let alone lain on the ground wailing in pain. Asking them to act injured was simply too much. They could only mechanically copy the way Goblins screamed, but they hadn’t expected that being too realistic would actually make it look fake.

It was just absurd.

When the Knights who thought they had actually taken down a few of their opponents saw this, the smiles on their faces froze solid. They stared blankly as other soldiers placed them on stretchers and hauled them away for Treatment.

"Lord, I was just thinking, ’friendship first, competition second,’" Levi said awkwardly, sending Sam over to treat their allies.

This wrestling match was different from the time at Fujero’s banquet when they beat up those nobles’ Knights. Based on the principles of social grace, and to prevent their allies from Wolf Island who had come to support them from losing too badly, the Lord had orchestrated this whole charade of faking injuries.

’Who would have thought the acting of these big oafs would be so over-the-top? It was seen through in an instant.’

"Forget it. Let’s start the second round. This time, I won’t let High Cliff Castle win so easily!" Monvert shook his head, then looked at a balding, middle-aged man in a Mage Robe next to him. "Master Jieren, I’ll have to ask you to go and provide them with Treatment."

The man nodded and left with his Magic Staff.

"Alright," Levi nodded and looked at Mier beside him. "Don’t forget those few moves I just taught you."

"Brother-in-law, can I... not use them?" Mier looked troubled.

’Recalling the dirty tricks Levi had just passed on to him, Mier felt that if he actually used them, he’d never be able to hold his head high again.’

"Suit yourself. In any case, I’ve shown you the method," Levi didn’t press the issue.

After all, with him as a backstop, they couldn’t lose the second round. Mier was just there to fill a spot.

The person Monvert chose was his personal Attendant. He was also young, a bit slimmer than Mier, but he had definitely cultivated Combat Qi, and to an even higher level than the Knights from before.

The outcome was without suspense. The moment their arms locked, his opponent’s Combat Qi augmented his body, and he instantly flipped Mier to the ground.

After all, although Mier had studied Swordsmanship with the Lord for a while, his main focus was still holed up in the blacksmith’s forge, doing research and reading.

However, his opponent held back, and Mier only landed on his butt.

Levi shook his head. ’If Mier had used the moves I taught him, even if he couldn’t win, he wouldn’t have lost so pathetically. He’s just too thin-skinned. If it were me, I wouldn’t care what kind of move it was, as long as it worked.’

In the second match, Hog’s opponent was a one-eyed, middle-aged Swordsman. Although they looked similarly dressed, the gap in their strength was enormous. Hog took him down in a single exchange; he was even weaker than the young Attendant Mier had faced.

This strategic deployment of fighters made the Lord understand everything.

’So, Monvert is pinning all his hopes on the final match against me, is he?’

With nothing more to say, Levi stripped off his outer clothes, leaving only a short shirt and revealing two arms that looked like they were forged from Fine Steel. He cracked his neck and rotated his wrists, his joints letting out a series of sharp CRACKS. He grinned brightly. "Lord, it’s our turn."

Monvert didn’t waste any time. He unbuckled his Sword and vaulted over the fence into the ring.

"Lord Monvert..." Liya began, intending to warn him.

"Miss Liya, don’t you worry. I’ll know where to draw the line," Monvert smiled, signaling for Liya not to be concerned.

After all, they were on the same side now; he certainly wouldn’t be too rough.

The words of caution died on her lips. She could only turn to Levi with a look of resignation.

No one knew better than her just how strong this Knight, whom she had personally knighted, truly was. After all, she was the one who had brought him the Holy Word Treasure Manual in the first place.

In her eyes, the Count of Monvert had no chance of winning.

That was why she had wanted to tell him to be careful, so that his loss wouldn’t be too embarrassing. But he had clearly misunderstood her.

Levi nodded to show that he understood.

’Everyone in this world has a universal human foible: until they’re put in their place, their mouth is always the toughest part of their body. The Count of Monvert was clearly a prime example of this.’

’His combat record might be dazzling, but people who haven’t witnessed it firsthand are always under the illusion that ’I could do that too.’’

Levi decided to make the man thoroughly understand the gap between them.

"Lord, you don’t need to hold back," Levi said before they started. It was anyone’s guess how much of that his opponent had taken to heart.

The two men stood on the dark earth, packed down by hundreds of people. They bumped fists, then retreated from each other until they were seven or eight steps apart. Simultaneously, they crouched and lunged fiercely at one another.

In terms of physique, the two were quite similar and stood at about the same height. Levi was a bit leaner, but this didn’t mean the Lord was scrawny. On the contrary, his body had the classic build of a powerful warrior—broad shoulders and a narrow waist. Every muscle was proportioned to a golden ratio, like a masterpiece meticulously sculpted by the Gods, eye-catching enough to make a Noble Lady’s legs go weak.

The Count of Monvert, on the other hand, was covered in corded muscle, giving him a more robust build.

Their four arms locked together. Monvert’s Combat Qi surged as he prepared to settle things in one move and show the Lion Hunter Knight the wrestling skills of Wolf Island. But in that instant, he suddenly felt his footing give way, and the next moment, the world was spinning.

BAM!

An effortless back throw!

The impact of flesh on earth produced a dull thud, and the ground itself trembled slightly.

"What? Lord Monvert actually... lost!"

The onlooking soldiers and nobles from Wolf Island froze like statues, their faces filled with disbelief.

As the master of Wolf Island, the Count of Monvert’s strength was beyond doubt; he was definitely the most powerful man on the island.

With his exquisite Martial Arts and Combat Qi, he had even won first place once in Kolon’s arena.

Yet now, his defeat felt like a dream.

Too bad they didn’t know that a certain someone was a multi-time reigning champion of that same arena.

If the arena owner hadn’t banned him from competing to stop him from farming all the prize money, the title of champion would have become synonymous with his name.

Monvert’s expression was grim as he flipped over and climbed to his feet.

Perhaps to outsiders, it looked as if he had thrown the match, which was why he was so easily flipped.

But only he himself knew that at that moment, he had already pushed his body’s augmentation with Combat Qi to its absolute limit. Even so, he still couldn’t resist the immense force coming from his opponent.

In that moment, he felt as if he were holding back a mountain. When that mountain collapsed, it had effortlessly flipped him over with it.

"I lost," he finally said.

He was now thoroughly impressed by this Lion Hunter Knight.

The man’s substance was terrifyingly real. There wasn’t a shred of exaggeration in his rumored achievements.

The result of this friendly competition was that the allies from Wolf Island now looked at the team from High Cliff Castle with eyes full of respect. When they saw a certain Baron patrolling the camp with his hands behind his back, they would immediately bow respectfully.

「When the snow on the ground began to melt, a deployment order from Kalia Town finally made this slumbering Giant Beast rise to its feet and march toward Kolon!」
