Planet Vs Aliens: Space User Saves the World
Chapter 149: Prison Break...?They left along with nearly all of the military forces, and they left so decisively.
It seemed like the man, or at least his family, caught wind that this was just the beginning and was already preparing for his own safety.
Later, they found out he even left via a helicopter, their party taking all of them.
Luke and the others’ blood pressure rose, the veins on their arms and heads popping, but they forced themselves to calm down and compartmentalize.
There was nothing they could do about those bastards. They had to focus on what they had now.
One thing he could do was to consolidate the survivors and head to the capital city, which was at least getting prepared for what was to come. However, according to the news he received, the base could not accommodate the survivors in the National Capital Region, let alone those outside.
Even if they went now, they might just be left outside (since all buildings would’ve been occupied by then), drinking northwest winds.
The government should be making moves to accommodate as many as possible, but right now it does not have that capability. The storm was coming, so they would not have the time to do so, either.
That left him with consolidating the population and helping them survive through the immediate threats.
As for what would happen after the storm and during the cold, he’d have to wait and see whether the capital would be able to accommodate them.
It was a pity. Amber City was one of the better-off locations for now. However, instead of developing and preparing it for what was to come, the mayor left it behind.
Luke could only grit his teeth, but didn’t let this affect them too much. In the apocalypse, chaos was normal; it was already amazing that things were still organized now.
Luke and the others simply kept doing their jobs, organizing and keeping the people calm while the rescue personnel and the firefighters rescued the injured ones.
Some of those who lost their homes—perhaps due to construction collapse, sinkholes, or fires—were taken in by their neighbors or went to the hotels. There were also gymnasiums and dormitories expropriated to serve as evacuation centers.
Their hospitals were packed, and even the queue for the clinics was as long as a few streets. However, even if people queued, whether they’d actually be treated—regardless of whether it was a manpower limitation or they ran out of medicine—depended on fate.
They called for volunteers to keep order. There was plenty of chaos, but Luke took over all the main resource points, and then controlled it so they could maintain a certain degree of control for a while.
Most were still hopeful that things would improve and that the rest of the rescuers were just late. However, once they find out that the situation wouldn’t improve—and only get worse—one could imagine the chaos it would bring. Would people still care to follow the rules, then?
Luke was doing his best, so hopefully, by then, even if people found out, they wouldn’t resort to excessive violence. Even if they did, he hoped his side wouldn’t have to use excessive force.
Hopefully, nothing even more unexpected happens—
"Captain!" Johnny ran over, looking at him with a pale face. Luke had an unpleasant, foreboding feeling.
"What?"
"Some of the prisoners have escaped!"
...
When disasters strike, everyone naturally has to be mobilized.
Only a few buildings gave way, but many buildings showed cracks. There was also liquefaction of the soil, and several sinkholes had appeared. Not only did they have to rescue those stuck in the buildings, but they also had to handle the other peripheral accidents that happened at the same time.
Rescue Operations were inherently dangerous, so this added a layer of delays to everything. For example, several rescue vehicles, fire trucks, and police cars had fallen into sinkholes.
They had to complete the rescues within the next day or two as well. If they were to follow the book, then major days-long megastorms would soon land, and this was followed by a year-long winter. There could not be too many survivors left outside.
All hands had to be on deck.
Despite this, the police station was not left carelessly. Even if they had to go, the officers weren’t careless and made sure the prisoners were well guarded and added extra locks.
However, some of the prisoners were pretty skilled. Without someone watching over them at all times, they actually dared make moves.
It so happened that there were plenty of aftershocks; not only were every officer distracted, but the prisoners were also ’blessed’ by the earthquake, as it caused the things in the desks to trip and slide to the cells, giving them plenty of materials to do things.
Several people inside the station’s cells got out of their cages like this, while most of the others begged to be taken.
They had to swear allegiance, of course. No matter how minor their crimes were for being there, if they wanted out, they had to become these bastards’ lackeys!
He even made them fight each other to ’prove their worth’!
Heck, even those who were unwilling, under the pressure of several punches, fought along with them.
The leader, a big guy called Taran, was a small-time gang leader. All this time, he had been underestimated. Now, he was a boss! Finally!
His eyes fixed on Houser, who had been at the corner, trying to lower his sense of presence. Without a doubt, he wanted to be sly and watch them fight, only to escape while everyone was distracted.
Taran had always known the slyness of these damned businessmen. How dare they look down on him!?
He remembered his ex, who dumped him for a CEO twice as old as he was!
Taran gave Houser a venomous look, making the man flinch.
In fact, Taran had already been incarcerated before news about Houser came out. However, the guy did not lack yelling ’dont you know who I am? How dare you not even give me a bed?’ the whole time he was here; how could they not know he was loaded?
He stepped towards Houser. "Aren’t you a rich guy?" he asked, grabbing Houser’s shoulder with a friendly, but entitled, smile. Houser was pale, feeling pain under the man’s vice grip.
"Why don’t you take us in?" he said, showing his yellow teeth. "To that house you’ve been bragging about?"
