I threw the glass, shattering it against the wall beside him. The sharp crack echoed through the room, tiny shards skittering across the floor.

Lorenzo stepped closer.

I backed away. "Don’t!"

He halted. For a moment, we held each other’s gaze. My heart was racing, his wasn’t...of course not. I was the only one in this marriage unable to keep a normal heart rate.

"I want to leave," I said.

His expression softened just a smidge. "I know."

"I want my freedom." I ranted, I wondered if he was considering hiring a psychologist for me. "You promised me! Our deal is the only reason I let you marry me!"

"I remember."

"Then let me go!"

When it looked like I might actually hurt myself on the next swing, or finally land a hit that would force a real reaction, Lorenzo moved.

He crossed the space between us in two measured steps, caught both my wrists in one smooth motion, and turned me so that my back was pressed securely against his chest, arms locked in front of me in a hold that was firm and controlling but not cruel and not immediately sexual.

It was pure containment, the kind of grip that said he could keep me there as long as he wanted without needing to escalate.

One of his thumbs idly stroked over the racing pulse point at my wrist, as if he were cataloguing exactly how fast my heart was beating and filing the information away for later.

His scent wrapped around me thicker than before, and impossible to shut out, and I hated how my body still registered it even while my mind was screaming protest.

I immediately fought back. "Let go!"

He held firm but didn’t hurt me. "Alex."

"Let go of me."

"I don’t want to hurt you."

"Then stop holding me!"

His jaw tightened. For several seconds, he simply restrained my wrists as I struggled against him until my strength ebbed, leaving me gasping.

Lorenzo looked down at me steadily. "You can’t leave."

Those words were quiet and infuriating. I laughed bitterly. "Everything with you is so dramatic."

"I’m serious."

"So am I." I struggled. "If it’s about the money, we can adjust that."

His brows knit together. "What?"

"The seventy million." His look became almost incredulous. "Let’s lower it."

"Alex—"

"I don’t care!" I looked around the room. "Fifty million, thirty million, ten million—I don’t care! Keep most of it, all of it if you want. Just let me go."

He stared at me. "It’s not about the money, caro."

"Then what is it about?"

He didn’t answer right away, and that scared me more than anything.

Finally, he said, "I want you."

I froze. I wished he hadn’t said that. Suddenly, everything felt far too serious.

"You don’t get to decide that."

His eyes dropped for a moment, and when they returned to mine, there was something complex there.

"I won’t force you again," he said softly. I swallowed. "But I won’t just let you walk away from me."

I stared at him. He went on, his tone even. "But I will make you want stay as my omega. I will make you want me. I will make you beg for it...I will make

you mine completely forever."

I shot him a disbelieving look. "I will never want you."

His face remained calm as I continued.

"I will never be yours, especially not forever."

That finally made him pause. Something shifted in his eyes, and then that familiar slow smile emerged. It was neither amused nor angry. It was the look of a man who’d just received a challenge he wasn’t going to back down from.

"Is that a challenge?"

I stared at him, exasperated. "No."

His eyebrow lifted. "That definitely sounded like one."

"It was just a statement."

"A poorly hidden one."

I should’ve been furious, and I was, but I was also starting to realize that arguing with Lorenzo was like trying to punch a brick wall and then getting mad because the wall stayed solid.

Lorenzo went still behind me.

Then that slow, dark smirk returned, the one that always preceded something I was going to hate.

He shifted just enough to free one hand, cupped my face with careful fingers, and brushed his thumb over my cheekbone in a touch that felt almost gentle before it settled against the corner of my mouth.

The kiss he placed on my cheek was slow and lingering...soft enough to feel intimate, controlled enough to feel like a promise rather than an attack, followed by the quiet exhale of his breath against my skin that sent an unwanted shiver straight down my spine.

The phantom pressure of it lingered even after he pulled back.."Be mine, Alex."

I was taken aback. "N–no."

His lips curved slightly. He looked at me for another long second, that dark amusement still playing at the edges of his expression, and then simply said, "We’ll see about that."

Then, to my utter shock, he simply stepped away. No argument, no threats, no move to stop me when I went to the other side of the room. He approached the door and reached for the handle, glancing back once.

"Get some sleep."

I crossed my arms. "Go to hell."

He chuckled, "Goodnight, Alex."

And with that, he left, the door closing quietly behind him.

My heart was still racing. The phantom pressure of the hold sat on my skin like a brand I could not rub off, and the exact place the kiss had landed on my cheek burned with a heat that had nothing to do with temperature.

I hated that I noticed. I hated that my body catalogued every detail even while my mind was already spinning toward the next move.

I stood there, silence returning. I stared at the door for a few moments before lifting my hand to my burning red cheek, then dropped it.

"No." I pointed an accusatory finger at the empty doorway. "Absolutely not."

My heart raced too quickly, which was driving me fucking nuts.

Everything about this situation was infuriating. Lorenzo was annoying. His calm voice grated on my nerves. His stupid face was infuriating.

His awful habit of looking at me like he already knew what I was going to say was just—

Fuck!!!

I halted. I glanced at the door again, then at the window, and finally at the chaotic room around me.

A small smile crept up the corner of my mouth. It wasn’t a happy smile; it was more the grin of someone faced with an unreasonable challenge who decided..

against all better judgment, to accept it.

He wanted to see if I’d stay forever with him.

Fine,et him try.

I had survived Richard Sinclair and his fuck ass wife and my half sister. I had endured being thrust into a marriage.

I had lived beside a man who could silence an entire room just by entering it, and I had coped with the realization that my temporary husband was allergic to keeping promises.

If Lorenzo Castelli wanted a challenge, I was ready.

I glanced at the locked drawer under my desk, the place where I kept my important documents, my emergency notes, and the scraps of planning I’d never fully abandoned.

My smile widened. "Let’s see if I can escape before you even get the chance."

For the first time that night, the panic inside me loosened its grip.

I wasn’t helpless, I wasn’t trapped yet.

And if Lorenzo wanted our marriage to be a battle of wills, he’d made a serious mistake.

He had underestimated how stubborn I could be when it came to my freedom.
