A staff member led Alex through the corridor and toward his opponent.

Standing there was a young man who looked to be in his early twenties.

Milo was fairly tall, standing around 1.85 meters, with a lean build that made him seem more like a researcher than a trainer. His skin was slightly pale, and his messy dark-purple hair fell just low enough to partially cover one eye. Beneath his bangs were sharp violet eyes that appeared unusually calm.

He wore a long black coat with purple accents over a dark shirt and trousers. Several Dusk Balls and Luxury Balls hung from his belt. What stood out most, however, was his expression.

Milo looked completely relaxed. He simply stood there with his hands in his pockets, quietly waiting for the battle to begin.

The moment Alex saw him, he felt like he was looking at an emo boy who was a bit too old to still be an emo boy.

Milo and Alex followed the staff member in silence before being led to the arena entrance. The staff member allowed Milo to enter first.

As Milo stepped into the arena, Alex heard a small number of spectators cheering for him.

What surprised him, however, was that this small group of fans consisted almost entirely of girls and women dressed in black.

"Milo! Show them the beauty of the darkness!"

"Let's go, Milo! Haunt their nightmares!"

"Go, Milo! Teach them why Ghost-types are the best!"

Alex couldn't help but blink when he heard the cheers.

Every single voice came from a small group of girls and women dressed almost entirely in black.

Some wore dark makeup, while others carried plush Ghost-type Pokémon and banners decorated with little Haunter and Gengar drawings.

The entire scene felt strangely organized.

Alex, who had never seen so many real goth girls in one place before, couldn't help but stare for a moment.

In his previous world, he had only seen a genuine goth girl once. Girls like that—and real tomboys—had been surprisingly rare.

Seeing so many of them gathered together felt a little like discovering a group of rare Pokémon in the wild.

The staff member noticed where Alex was looking and asked with an amused smile, "Your type?"

Alex immediately understood what he meant and replied, "Not really, but..."

The staff member gave him a knowing look and nodded. He understood perfectly.

Alex wasn't interested in them specifically. He was simply fascinated by how unusual the sight was. A few seconds later, the staff member received the signal that it was Alex's turn.

"Go ahead."

Alex nodded and walked into the arena. The moment he stepped onto the battlefield, the crowd erupted into loud applause and cheers.

He quickly noticed that there were even more spectators present today than yesterday.

The arena was completely packed. Not a single seat was empty.

Alex and Milo both said nothing to wait for the matches to start.

A few moments later, the referee stepped forward and raised his arm.

the referee swung his arm downward and shouted, "Release your Pokémon!"

Both trainers immediately threw their Poké Balls and two flashes of light appeared on opposite sides of the battlefield.

----------------------

Alex saw a Shallow Diamond Pokémon and couldn't help but be surprised.

He knew how rare SS-rank Pokémon were; that was the case even among most high-level Elite Trainers.

Most high-level Elite Trainers didn't possess an SS-rank Pokémon.

Alex was surprised, but only for a moment; he quickly composed himself and focused on closely examining the Pokémon's move mastery.

He saw only three Master Rank moves; although the Pokémon had several Expert Rank moves, Alex concluded that, much like his own Pokémon, it seemingly hadn't had enough time to raise many moves to the Master Rank.

The referee raised his hand and shouted, "3, 2, 1, Go!"

Alex said nothing, and Crobat automatically began preparing its move.

Milo said in a rough tone, "Drifblim, use Phantom Force."

Alex heard this and showed no reaction, though he was slightly disappointed in Milo.

If Milo didn't show anything special and fought just like any other Elite-level Trainer, he wouldn't stand a chance against him.

Although Alex often preferred easy opponents, that was usually only the case in dangerous situations.

Normally, he enjoyed challenges or opponents who could show him something new.

Alex said telepathically, "Crobat, once your move is ready, don't use it immediately; wait until Drifblim attacks you."

Milo immediately looked at Alex when he used his psychic ability.

Although ordinary humans can sense when a Pokémon or a human uses a psychic ability, it is very difficult to detect unless one is watching the user closely.

Milo said nothing when he noticed it, but he considered what to do next.

Alex, with his superior senses, noticed Milo's reaction but was less bothered by it than Milo was.

Even if his opponent knew he was planning something, it wouldn't necessarily help them.

Drifblim finished preparing and immediately used Phantom Force. She immediately turned semi-transparent and moved toward Crobat.

Alex noticed something interesting when he saw this. In this semi-transparent state, Drifblim seemed faster than usual.

That was a surprising effect he knew nothing about.

Alex then said telepathically, "Crobat, you probably can't dodge this move, so use the time to get into a good position for after Drifblim uses Phantom Force. Hit it in her weak point—which, if I recall correctly, is inside that red hole."

Hearing this, Crobat looked shocked and asked telepathically, "Ahh, are you serious? You want me to attack that female in her reproductive zone? How could you suggest something so cruel?"

Alex, not having expected such a moral reaction from Crobat, didn't know what to say for a moment.

He quickly said, "Crobat, you've misunderstood something. Most Ghost-type Pokémon reproduce differently from most other species. So..."

While he was having this weird conversation with Crobat, Drifblim was already right in front of Crobat.

Drifblim's semi-transparent form rammed into Crobat, passing right through him like a ghost.

Crobat took damage from the contact, but because he had anticipated it, he suppressed the pain and struck back at Drifblim with Shadow Ball.

Drifblim tried to dodge but was hit by a Shadow Ball.

It wasn't an ordinary hit; because Crobat was so close and well-positioned, he managed to strike Drifblim's weak point.

He hit Drifblim's weak point with the Shadow Ball—a critical hit.

The Ghost-type swayed from side to side before crashing onto the battlefield unconscious.

The entire arena fell silent for a brief second. The battle had ended so quickly that many spectators hadn't even realized what had happened.
