Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Exposed?
Once he reached the kitchen, Julian secretly took a photo of Cassia and sent it to his online friend.
[Singing Jangmo-o:I told you my ideal type yesterday, and today you packaged her up and sent her straight to Veilstone City?]
Cassia felt her phone vibrate.
She took it out, saw a photo of herself, and nearly jumped.
She hurriedly turned off the screen.
"Maylene, where’s the bathroom?"
"I’ll take you."
Cassia waved her hand.
"No need. Just point me in the right direction."
After sending the message, Julian started thinking about what dessert to make.
Cassia had told him to make whatever he was best at. In that case, he naturally had to choose something delicious, technically impressive, and visually appealing.
But desserts like that took time.
So he decided to make something simple first, send it out, and then carefully prepare his speciality.
Maylene wanted mango, so he made mango pancakes.
It was quick enough. Mango, milk, egg, honey, baking powder, and flour. Mix, pan-fry on low heat, and in less than ten minutes, a plate of mango pancakes was ready.
"Maylene, here’s your mango dessert. Where’s Miss Cassia?"
Maylene’s eyes shone as she grabbed a pancake and bit into it.
"She went to the bathroom."
Inside the bathroom, Cassia immediately took out her phone and replied.
[KingGarchomp:I didn’t arrange this, but since you’ve met your ideal type, go after her. If you don’t know how, message me and I’ll teach you]
After sending the message, she returned to the living room.
Julian immediately put away his phone.
With his friend’s encouragement, he pushed the mango pancakes towards her.
"Miss Cassia, try the mango pancakes first. I’ll go make my speciality afterwards."
Cassia waved her hand.
"There’s already osmanthus cake, cookies, and mango pancakes. That’s more than enough. Let’s sit together, drink tea, and talk."
Maylene grabbed Julian with surprising force and dragged him down onto the sofa.
Julian, my dear brother.
You finally met a beautiful woman.
You have to seize the chance and find me a sister-in-law.
If this goes on, I’m afraid you’ll grow old alone.
Cassia picked up a pancake, took a bite, and nodded.
"It tastes very good. With skills like this, I’m sure many girls must like you."
Julian smiled awkwardly.
"Well... I suppose."
Maylene exposed him without mercy.
"What do you mean, ’I suppose’? Julian spends all day at home reading books and researching strange things. He’s eighteen already, and the number of times he’s spoken to girls can be counted on one hand."
"Maylene!"
Julian was instantly embarrassed.
Cassia’s eyes shifted.
My friend, you really need to go out and meet more girls...
"With your cooking, if you opened a dessert shop, plenty of girls would fight to become your girlfriend."
He shook his head at once.
"Making desserts is just something I do to relax. Opening a dessert shop just to find a girlfriend would waste too much time. I need to focus my energy on training Pokémon."
Maylene sighed.
"As expected, a bookworm like Julian still likes books more."
He pinched her nose, then changed the topic to ease the awkwardness.
"Miss Cassia, did you become a historian because you liked history?"
Cassia nodded.
"History hides the secrets of the world’s origins. I want to explore them. More importantly, Sinnoh’s history is connected to the legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia."
"I look forward to meeting every Pokémon and understanding their feelings. Now, that hope has grown into wanting to meet Dialga and Palkia, and understand what they feel as well."
Meeting every Pokémon and understanding their feelings?
Julian rubbed his chin.
He remembered his friend saying something similar. He had set out on his journey because he wanted to meet new Pokémon and understand their feelings.
Looking at his expression, Cassia immediately realised something was wrong.
She had relaxed too much and said something she should not have.
Maylene elbowed him, breaking his train of thought.
She whispered, "Talk!"
Julian smiled.
"Wanting to understand every Pokémon’s feelings is a wonderful idea. But Miss Cassia, as a historian, do you also like Pokémon that much?"
Cassia forced herself to stay calm.
"Of course. Pokémon are the most incredible creatures in the world. Besides, the history of human development is also the history of humans coming into contact with Pokémon."
"Without Pokémon, humanity would not be where it is today."
After saying that, Cassia immediately reflected.
She had not said anything wrong just now, had she?
Better change the subject.
"I also want to try making some food myself. Would you be willing to teach me?"
"Of course. And you can just call me Julian. What kind of food would you like to learn, Miss Cassia?"
Cassia waved a hand.
"If I’m calling you Julian, you can’t keep calling me Miss Cassia. I’d like to learn some simple desserts. Something convenient that can be made quickly."
Julian smiled shyly.
"Then... Cassia, let’s go to the kitchen. I’ll teach you a few simple dessert recipes. Even a beginner can finish them in twenty minutes."
"Sounds good."
Maylene smiled like a proud aunt.
Yes.
That was it.
Julian briefly introduced several simple desserts to Cassia and wrote down the recipes.
Then they chose one to try.
The two of them worked together smoothly, and in ten minutes, the dessert was finished.
It was clearly their first meeting.
Neither of them had expected their chemistry to be this natural.
Cassia was a little curious.
"Julian, how do you know so many dessert recipes?"
Maylene cheerfully answered for him.
"He likes reading, so of course he knows all kinds of weird things. But what’s the use of reading so many books?"
"He still can’t find a girlfriend. Without a girlfriend, how is Veilstone Gym supposed to have a third-generation heir?"
Cassia could not help laughing.
Julian’s sister really was interesting. Every sentence seemed designed to find her brother a girlfriend.
It even made Cassia want to say something in his defence.
"With Julian’s knowledge, as long as he’s a little bolder, finding a girlfriend shouldn’t be difficult."
Maylene looked frustrated.
"Did you hear that? Be bolder, and love will come!"
"I..."
Julian opened his mouth, but the words still would not come out.
"Let’s talk about history instead. I’m also curious about how Sinnoh developed into its current form, and what interesting ruins you’ve encountered during your archaeology work."
Maylene shook her head, tossed a cookie into her mouth, and took a sip of tea.
"I really don’t know why you two are interested in boring history. Wouldn’t a Pokémon battle be much more fun?"
Cassia raised an eyebrow.
"Oh? So you’re good at Pokémon battles, Maylene?"
Maylene nodded proudly.
"Of course. Riolu and I are undefeated at the nearby Pokémon Centre."
Riolu
The name made Cassia remember when she had first caught her own Riolu.
Julian asked, "Then do you know who the strongest Lucario Trainer in history was? And why he was so strong?"
Maylene shook her head.
"Why would I know that? Would knowing it make Riolu and me stronger?"
Cassia covered her mouth and laughed at Julian’s speechless expression.
"I’m curious too. Who was the strongest Lucario Trainer?"
Julian raised an eyebrow.
"Personally, I would say Sir Aaron, the Aura Guardian. He once used the power of aura to stop a war."
"The power of aura? What’s that? Can it help me win battles more easily?"
Maylene tilted her head curiously.
Cassia rubbed Maylene’s head.
"Battle isn’t only a contest of strength. It’s also a conversation between hearts. Rather than victory alone, you should value growth."
Julian frowned again.
"That line..."
Cassia’s hand stiffened.
Why had she forgotten to think before speaking again?
Was she going to expose herself?
