Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Milotic

A/N: 1/2 Bonus Chapters

Croagunk defeating Toxicroak gave Octavius a clearer understanding of Julian’s ability as a Trainer.

If he wanted to introduce Pokémon to Julian, the Safari Zone really did not seem to have many that were impressive enough.

Goodra was basically already one of the most outstanding Pokémon here, but Julian was unwilling to go against Goodra’s wishes.

As for Pokémon that were passionate about battling, he did have one pretty good choice.

He pulled Julian along and continued forward. The two arrived at a sandy area.

Julian’s eyes widened.

"How is there sand in the Great Marsh?"

Octavius smiled proudly and said, "Every year, once the rainy season comes, the Safari Zone floods. Back then, quite a lot of effort was spent modifying the environment so the Pokémon could live here peacefully."

"The environmental reconstruction was successful. Several lakes were shaped in the wetlands to store water, and the exposed land became forests, grasslands, and this sandy area!"

"The year before last, a group of Vibrava flew here and laid eggs in the sand, adding a group of Trapinch to the sandy area. You can catch one if you like."

"Of course, the one I want to introduce to you isn’t Trapinch, but Gabite!"

Julian was somewhat surprised.

"Besides Salamence and Goodra, the Great Marsh Safari Zone really does have another pseudo-legendary!"

And both kinds.

After entering the Great Marsh and feeling its humid environment, Julian had not held much hope that there would be a Gabite here.

As a result, the Great Marsh had actually modified the environment and created a sandy area.

Although everyone joked that Garchomp could not use Dragon Dance, if people were asked to choose a Dragon-type Pokémon, Julian believed many would still choose Garchomp.

This area was a mixture of sand and rocky hills. Gabite’s home was a cave in a rock wall.

Octavius shouted towards the cave, "Gabite, I’ve come to see you!"

There was no response from inside the cave.

Octavius walked in and took a look.

No dragon.

There were a few Berries in the corner, already shrivelled until they had lost all their moisture.

Julian picked up one Berry and judged from its condition.

"Gabite hasn’t been home for at least half a month."

The corner of Octavius’s mouth twitched.

He had wanted to introduce Julian to one of Sinnoh’s most representative Pokémon. Not being home was one thing, but from the look of things, Gabite had probably already left the Safari Zone, or even left the Great Marsh.

"Ever since this Gabite appeared in the Safari Zone, he often challenged Salamence. Although he was defeated by Salamence every time, Gabite never lost heart."

"He trained persistently, increased his strength, then challenged Salamence again. Why did he leave?"

Julian shrugged.

"Maybe Gabite and I just weren’t fated."

Octavius let out a long breath.

"Don’t worry! I still have one last Pokémon!"

Julian was not worried at all. Instead, Octavius seemed a little anxious.

He brought Julian to the largest lake in the Safari Zone.

"Ever since we reconstructed the river, widened it, and deepened it, at some unknown point, a Milotic appeared in this lake."

The Safari Zone really did have something.

Octavius shouted towards the lake, "Hey, Milotic!"

Not long after Octavius called out, a beautiful figure appeared within the lake water.

"Milotic~"

Milotic swayed her tail, and her scales released rainbow light under the sunlight.

Octavius smiled and said, "How about it? Milotic is beautiful enough, right?"

Julian nodded.

"She really is extremely beautiful. As expected of the most beautiful Pokémon."

He patted Julian’s shoulder.

"The rest depends on you. This is as far as I can help."

After all, Octavius had good intentions. Julian thought for a moment, then took a harmonica from his bag and played a familiar tune, Meowth’s Song.

But Milotic did not seem to appreciate it. Before she even finished listening, she sank back into the lake.

Octavius blinked.

"That was quite a nice tune. Why would Milotic be so resistant to it?"

Julian frowned slightly.

He felt that Meowth’s Song had probably stirred up some unpleasant memories for Milotic.

It had produced the opposite effect.

Julian had seen all the complicated emotions that flashed through Milotic’s eyes just now.

This Milotic had probably once had a Trainer.

And Milotic had also been abandoned by that Trainer.

As for the reason she had been abandoned...

It was very simple. No Trainer would abandon Milotic.

But if it were Feebas, there were not many Trainers patient enough to raise Feebas into Milotic.

Especially Trainers who raised Feebas specifically for the sake of obtaining Milotic, the most beautiful Pokémon.

If Feebas never evolved...

It was easy to imagine what a Trainer angered out of shame might do.

Most likely, they had also said many hurtful words to Feebas.

Some people simply did not deserve to be Trainers.

Julian’s Aura was not strong enough like Lucario’s to sense the emotions of life a kilometre away, but Milotic was right in front of him.

Julian could easily sense the emotions Milotic revealed.

This was a Milotic with a resistance towards Trainers.

If he could understand Milotic’s emotional journey, it would definitely help Croagunk’s evolution.

Julian immediately released Croagunk.

"Croagunk, there’s a Milotic in this lake. Please help me find her."

Croagunk nodded and jumped into the lake, soon forcing Milotic out.

As expected of a Milotic who had become self-reliant after being abandoned and completed her evolution on her own.

With one Iron Tail, she directly sent Croagunk flying out of the lake and back onto the shore.

Croagunk opened his mouth and spat out five Sludge Bombs.

Milotic waved her tail, rolling up a huge wave that intercepted the Sludge Bombs.

The Sludge Bombs exploded, but the huge wave still had quite a lot of force left as it surged towards the shore.

"Croagunk, rush up and fight Milotic at close range! Poison Jab!"

As a close relative of Seismitoad, Croagunk was very good at swimming.

He rapidly approached Milotic, purple light shining on his palm.

Milotic had her own pride. A little Croagunk actually dared to challenge her.

Her tail spun, and a powerful tornado blew towards Croagunk.

Julian shouted, "Dive underwater!"

Milotic likewise entered the water. Soon, a pillar of water exploded from the lake surface.

Croagunk was launched into the air and used Bulk Up with a determined expression.

Milotic surfaced, and a clear purple colour flashed across her face.

Milotic was poisoned.

Julian suddenly thought of something.

He was clearly working hard to improve Croagunk’s toxins, yet when Croagunk battled Pokémon, it seemed he almost never relied on toxins to win.

Milotic opened her mouth, and a Hydro Pump sent Croagunk flying back to the shore.

Croagunk, who had already fought several battles against Croagunk and Toxicroak earlier, struggled to climb back up.

"That’s enough!"

Julian stepped forward.

"Milotic, I only wanted to make friends with you. If the tune just now touched on something painful, I apologise."

Milotic stubbornly shook her head.

"Milotic!"

She was not upset. She simply did not like that song!

Julian nodded.

"All right. I said the wrong thing. Then how about I detoxify you first, then play you another song you might like?"

With Julian having placed her in this position, Milotic could only nod in agreement.

Milotic approached the lakeside. Julian cured her poison, then said, "I’ll start playing now. If you think it doesn’t sound good, tell me, and I’ll change to another song."

Julian chose a classic theme song from a Sinnoh film.

Milotic listened with satisfaction and closed her eyes.

After listening to the song, Milotic planned to immediately return home.

But Julian called out to her.

"It’s getting late. Why not try my cooking too?"
