Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Bond
A/N:1/8 Bonus Chapters
-----------------------
Hitmontop’s Rapid Spin was like a tornado tearing through a car park, the fierce wind scattering Gloom’s stench.
Even while spinning on the spike on his head, his speed was still too fast for Gloom and its Trainer to react.
Gloom was directly kicked away.
On the surface, it looked as if they had only made contact for an instant.
In reality, Hitmontop had kicked Gloom twenty-three times.
When Gloom landed, its entire face had swollen up completely.
Its eyes turned into spirals, and it fainted.
"Go, Koffing!"
A faint smile, lively eyes.
Unlike James’s silly Koffing.
"Koffing, Poison Gas!"
"Rapid Spin in place!"
After seeing Hitmontop use Rapid Spin to clear away Gloom’s stench, Julian did not believe the challenger would use the same kind of move again.
He definitely had a follow-up.
Seeing that Julian did not take the bait, the challenger could only change tactics.
"Koffing, Gyro Ball!"
"Triple Kick!"
Koffing and Hitmontop were like two spinning tops, colliding again and again across the battlefield.
It was obvious that if they kept clashing like this, the one who suffered would only be Koffing.
Yet Julian was the first to change tactics.
"Hitmontop, Drill Run!"
Perhaps because the spike on his head had been in contact with the ground all year round, Hitmontop had mastered Drill Run quite skilfully.
The spike could not only support his body as he spun, but also be used to attack.
This drill struck straight into the soul.
It directly made Koffing wear a mask of pain.
The challenger gritted his teeth.
"Psybeam!"
Koffing’s eyes shone, and a rainbow-coloured beam shot towards Hitmontop.
But his body twisted, easily avoiding the Psybeam.
Then he leapt up.
Elephant kick!
Stomping Tantrum!
Koffing was directly stomped into the ground.
The floating Pokémon only had time to spray a burst of poison from the holes in its body before losing consciousness!
The smile on Julian’s face became somewhat strained.
Hitmontop had probably been too excited after not appearing for so long. In his excitement, he had completely failed to control his strength and had used full power against a young challenger.
Koffing was not bad. It had even mastered Psybeam.
But against a thoroughly trained Hitmontop, it still seemed too immature.
Koffing’s final gift created favourable conditions for the challenger’s last Pokémon.
Hitmontop had been badly poisoned. As long as the final Pokémon stalled for time, defeating him would not be difficult.
Even after being poisoned, Hitmontop still wore a smile.
How could he not be excited?
Darius, that guy who handled challengers perfunctorily, always arranged Gym battles with Machop, Machoke, and then Machop, Machoke, Machamp.
Machop and Hitmonchan.
Machop and Hitmonlee.
Machop, Hitmonchan, and Hitmonlee.
Because strength had to be considered, Machop was usually the first to appear.
As the true model worker, Machop’s evolution was not strange.
Hitmontop and Poliwrath had very few chances to appear.
Otherwise, why would Poliwrath have suggested to Julian that they be given more opportunities to battle?
Machamp often came out to guide Julian’s Pokémon in practising Fighting techniques. Why did he not complain?
As for Primeape, he basically had no chance to appear.
Darius was afraid of trouble.
Even Julian himself had not let the two Primeape meet after all this time.
He was also afraid he would not be able to control them.
If those two troublemakers tore down Veilstone Gym, what then?
After recalling Koffing, the challenger took a deep breath.
"Go, Golbat!"
Julian suddenly realised that the challenger in front of him was actually a Poison-type specialist.
So what if it was Golbat?
Even while carrying a poisoned status and facing an opponent flying in the sky, Hitmontop still believed this would be a comfortable fight.
He believed Julian would definitely give the most suitable commands.
"Golbat, Haze!"
"Dig."
Seeing Hitmontop not spin at all and simply allow the Haze to spread across the field, the challenger grit his teeth
He had wanted to use Haze as cover, then hit Hitmontop hard with Venoshock.
Why had he directly gone underground?
"Golbat, use Supersonic into the hole!"
"Stone Edge!"
Hitmontop suddenly burst out of the ground.
Once again, it was the spike on his head!
After mastering Drill Run, Hitmontop had become very fond of drilling into hard rocks in the mountains with that spike.
Because of this, during his continuous impacts against stone, he had felt the nature of rock and mastered Stone Edge.
Since he could not learn Ice- or Electric-type moves...
When facing Flying types, Hitmontop could only rely on the Rock-type move Stone Edge.
Look!
After this hit, Golbat looked like a human who had been stabbed in the kidney.
It was in so much pain that it could not even flap its wings.
It fell directly to the ground.
Fortunately, it had not fainted yet.
There was naturally a small reason Hitmontop was rarely sent out.
It could not be denied that his upside-down kicking technique was indeed excellent.
The spike on his head gave Hitmontop an abnormally stable lower body.
He had even mastered powerful moves like Drill Run and Stone Edge.
However!
In battle, Hitmontop was easily controlled by that spike.
He became more and more excited.
Then he could not control the strength of his attacks.
A Gym Trainer’s job was to guide challengers into developing their potential.
Simply defeating challengers did not help them grow.
Because of that, in Darius’ mind, Hitmontop and Primeape were completely not the first choice for Gym battles.
As for poor Poliwrath, he would blink.
He had that Pokémon too!?
Poliwrath’s presence was too low. His existence was often forgotten.
In truth, Poliwrath was the real model worker. Against Flying-type Pokémon, sending him out was the correct choice.
His Ice-type moves were not much worse than those of an actual Ice-type Pokémon.
The challenger shouted excitedly, "Golbat, stand up! Let’s work hard together. We finally made it this far!"
"Absolutely! Absolutely don’t fall here!"
Golbat responded to his Trainer’s heart, flapping its wings and flying into the sky again.
Light bloomed around its body in mid-air. This was the result of all the hardship the two had experienced together, and the best symbol of the bond they had tempered.
Golbat would only evolve into Crobat when its relationship with its Trainer was close enough.
Evolving into Crobat during battle — that alone was worth Julian giving them a Badge.
Julian clenched his fist.
This was the kind of bond that made raising Pokémon worth it!
Even Hitmontop was moved by them.
This opponent was worth fighting!
"Crobat, Venoshock!"
With four wings, Crobat’s speed became ghostlike.
It moved nimbly through the air, suddenly appearing behind Hitmontop’s side and spraying a burst of poison.
Bathed in poison, Hitmontop suddenly sprang up violently.
Using the spike on his head, he gave Crobat another ruthless blow.
Crobat’s eyes were resolute as it bit into Hitmontop’s body.
It drained a little stamina from him, maintaining itself just enough not to collapse immediately.
Hitmontop landed with a smile and allowed itself to faint.
This Crobat is not bad
Poliwrath appeared and looked at the Crobat in front of him, who was already like a candle in the wind.
He instantly felt bored.
Forget it
It’s still better than no fight at all
"Crobat, Haze."
Julian smiled faintly.
"Icy Wind."
A cold wind blew past, and Crobat’s frozen-stiff body crashed to the ground.
The challenger was somewhat stunned.
Aside from the very beginning against Machop...
His tactics had never had a chance to unfold. Everything had been under Gym Leader Veyne’s control.
Fortunately, Gloom and Crobat had both received guidance from Gym Leader Veyne’s golden touch.
Julian smiled and stepped forward.
"This is Veilstone Gym’s Cobble Badge. Your performance is worthy of this Badge. I hope you continue working hard and perform well at the Lily of the Valley Conference."
The challenger bowed excitedly.
"Thank you, Gym Leader Veyne! I’ll keep working hard!"
After walking out of Veilstone Gym, the challenger unconsciously began humming a little tune.
When he raised his head, he saw an internet café.
