Chapter 244: Chapter 244: Passing Trials
Decidueye was a calm, ancient-knight type of Fighting Pokémon.
He could not understand why Hakamo-o became more excited the more they fought.
His dragon scales had been shot apart, yet when facing Triple Arrows, not only did Hakamo-o not dodge, he instead activated Outrage and charged straight into it.
It was as if this fellow really wanted all his dragon scales to be smashed.
Claws, tail, head — Hakamo-o frantically used every part of his body to attack Decidueye.
Hakamo-o’s fighting technique was indeed inferior to Decidueye’s, but Hakamo-o was crazy enough!
Once Outrage began, he recognised no one!
Decidueye found the fight extremely tiring.
He used a spinning kick to send Hakamo-o flying, but Hakamo-o bounced up immediately and looked at Decidueye before charging again.
Stubborn and durable
Decidueye was having a very difficult time.
However...
Decidueye had also not experienced this kind of blood-boiling battle in a very long time.
Clutching bamboo with his talons, he flew into the sky, his entire body igniting with blue flames.
Brave Bird!
Julian shouted, "Hakamo-o, show him our full strength!"
"Go! Outrage!"
Blue dragon-shaped flames burned as Hakamo-o roared and collided with Decidueye.
Hakamo-o was sent flying and landed half-kneeling on the ground. The dragon scales on both arms, which had already been left on the verge of collapse by Triple Arrows, shattered completely.
Decidueye was also panting heavily.
Although Hakamo-o was insane, Decidueye acknowledged Hakamo-o’s fighting will.
But guarding the pass was Decidueye’s duty.
He would not let Julian and Cynthia pass.
Julian revealed a look of admiration, but still took out a new Poké Ball.
"Go, Sirfetch’d."
Sirfetch’d and Decidueye had many similarities.
Both were bird Pokémon, but both were Fighting types through regional forms.
The most wonderful part was that Julian realised Sirfetch’d and Decidueye both had Brave Bird as one of their finishing moves.
Sirfetch’d specialised in the Fighting-type Meteor Assault and the Flying-type Brave Bird.
Decidueye specialised in the Fighting-type Triple Arrows and the Flying-type Brave Bird.
Did that not make them very similar?
"Sirfetch’d, Brick Break!"
A sharp light burst from Decidueye’s eyes. He swung his wings and circled behind Sirfetch’d.
Aerial Ace!
Unexpectedly, Sirfetch’d also spun around and appeared behind Decidueye.
Aerial Ace against Aerial Ace!
Sirfetch’d raised his shield and smashed it down.
Decidueye lifted his talons, stepped on the shield, flapped his wings, and flew into the sky.
Sirfetch’d’s personality was calm, which was another point he shared with Decidueye.
During the previous adventure in Paldea, Sirfetch’d had not received an opportunity to participate.
But this time, in the misty forest, Sirfetch’d had made up his mind to perform well!
Flames of fighting spirit burned in his eyes as Sirfetch’d aimed his leek lance at Decidueye.
Meteor Assault!
He turned into a golden meteor, piercing through the air as he shot into the sky.
Decidueye pulled back after beating his wings, then ignited with fierce flames.
He used Brave Bird again!
At the same time, he cursed inwardly.
Where had this group of lunatics come from?
They had only exchanged one move, and the situation had not even been properly tested yet.
Who used a finishing move this quickly?
Sirfetch’d’s attack came suddenly, and Decidueye had already spent a great deal of stamina against Hakamo-o’s madness.
Decidueye was blasted into the sky, snapping several bamboo stalks before crashing heavily to the ground.
He rolled messily several times, then quickly adjusted his posture.
He prepared to fight again.
Flapping his wings, he launched an instant Air Slash towards Sirfetch’d.
The enormous wind blade passed through bamboo poles. Only after the following gust arrived did the bamboo slowly slide apart.
The wind blade was so sharp that it sliced through the bamboo smoothly, before the bamboo itself seemed to realise it had been cut.
The wind blade passed through Sirfetch’d’s body, then burst apart with a bang, revealing that this was only a Substitute formed from expended stamina.
Decidueye was greatly shocked.
Julian revealed a look of delight.
Without his command, this honest-looking Sirfetch’d had actually learned how to use visual deception like Substitute.
As for the real Sirfetch’d...
Wrapped in powerful air currents, he descended from the sky.
Brave Bird!
He dive-bombed down and struck Decidueye directly in a weak point.
And Flying type happened to be Decidueye’s greatest weakness.
Decidueye supported himself against the ground with both wings, still trying to stand and continue carrying out his duty.
But his body had already reached its limit.
His wings trembled once.
Then, without another sound, he collapsed to the ground and fell unconscious.
Julian stepped forward and took out the medicine.
"Sirfetch’d, well done."
Sirfetch’d had not even been injured. He had taken down Decidueye without a scratch.
After treating Decidueye, Julian released Hakamo-o again.
"You got what you wanted this time, but the battles ahead have nothing to do with you. Recover properly."
Having dragon scales shattered and regrown was a painful, itchy process.
Without extraordinary willpower, it was impossible to endure it three times.
They left another portion of food and continued forward.
Before long, a wooden Poké Ball emerged from the grass.
Hisuian Electrode!
Cynthia raised her hand.
"Leave it to me!"
"Garchomp!"
Julian shook his head.
Cynthia really did love letting Garchomp battle.
She did not give her other Pokémon much chance to show off at all.
Now that Garchomp had Dragon Dance, the other Pokémon would probably have even fewer opportunities to perform during the Elite Four ranking battles.
"Dragon Rush!"
Cynthia did not bother playing tricks. She opened with a finishing move.
Before Electrode could react, a large shark had already fallen from the sky.
It struck him until his head buzzed.
"Brick Break!"
Two more shark fins smashed down, and Electrode fainted on the spot.
Julian shook his head, placed food on Electrode, and offered him his condolences.
Ahead was a valley. They had only just stepped inside when a few small stones fell from above.
A purple Pokémon leapt nimbly along the cliff walls and appeared before them.
Cynthia was delighted.
"I’ll take this one too!"
Julian narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Sneasler!"
Cynthia nodded in agreement.
Although its colouring was a little unusual, this blue-purple furred Pokémon did indeed look like a larger version of Sneasel.
"Look at its claws. They’re probably poisonous. Be careful."
Cynthia nodded.
"Garchomp, Dragon Rush!"
Since they had to be careful, naturally they would open with Dragon Rush.
Sneasler spread his claws and lunged towards Garchomp as well.
Dire Claw!
The energy contained in his claws was directly scattered by Garchomp’s collision.
Sneasler slammed into the uneven rock wall and fainted immediately.
Whether Dire Claw claimed lives or not, Julian did not know.
But after that hit from Garchomp, Sneasler halfway dead either way.
His back was covered in wounds, and Julian spent quite a while cleaning them.
He gave Sneasler an extra portion of Pokémon food.
The sight of Sneasler being defeated reminded Julian of his fastest simulation.
After passing through the valley, a white deer had already been waiting for a long time.
Cynthia immediately spoke, trying to claim the fight.
"This one is still mine!"
An eagle cry came from the sky. A large white eagle circled above Wyrdeer.
Julian gaze sharpened.
"Leave this Braviary to me!"
