Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Gallade
Cynthia was somewhat curious about how Julian and Cyrus had met.
And whether Cyrus had revealed his true identity to Julian.
"Julian, how did you and that friend meet? He doesn’t look like an ordinary person."
"Silas? He’s the president of a company. He started managing his family business very early, but because his natural psychic ability is too strong, he’s always suffered from it."
"Three years ago, I met him sitting alone on a park bench in the middle of the night, staring into space. I went up and greeted him, and that’s how we met."
"Last year, I got lucky and bought a few old books from a street stall. I didn’t expect them to be genuine, and I obtained a formula that could suppress psychic ability."
"So I made some incense and gave it to Silas. According to him, the effect was pretty good. It just so happens that I’ve researched something new and can make incense with better effects."
"Since I happened to run into him here, I went to ask how well the incense worked."
Cynthia nodded.
No wonder Cyrus’s dark circles had looked much lighter just now.
She seemed to have some impression of the ancient books Julian mentioned.
They seemed to be records of ancient Sinnoh people’s daily lives.
But Cynthia had not expected that Cyrus had also given Julian a false name.
Did Cyrus also have secrets he needed to hide?
Forget it.
Cynthia pulled Julian along.
"Let’s go. We’re going to eat Black Forest cake."
...
Cynthia scooped a spoonful of Black Forest cake into her mouth and narrowed her eyes in satisfaction.
"So delicious!"
Last time, she had actually missed such a delicious cake because of the wall-pinning incident.
Julian also nodded with a smile.
"I’ve tried recreating it before. Even though I used the exact same ingredients, I couldn’t make Black Forest cake as delicious as Uncle Saiba’s."
A handsome man in his thirties brought over two pieces of red velvet cake.
"Maybe it’s because I add my love for food into my cooking."
Cynthia tried a bite of the red velvet cake.
The taste was no worse than the signature Black Forest cake.
She said, "The power of the heart. According to the ancient texts I’ve read, as long as someone can devote themselves wholeheartedly to one thing, they can achieve extraordinary results."
Julian nodded.
A typical example was the bond between Trainers and Pokémon.
Bond was resonance of the heart.
The concrete examples were Ash and Greninja’s Bond Phenomenon, and Ash and Pikachu’s ten-million-volt strike that defeated Leon and Charizard.
Julian now had five Pokémon: Hakamo-o, Croagunk, Primeape, Torchic, and Farfetch’d.
He only had a deep bond with Hakamo-o.
If one day Julian and Hakamo-o could rely on their bond to use a move with power no weaker than a Z-Move, then their bond could be considered truly complete.
Chef Saiba smiled and nodded.
"This young lady is right. I devote myself entirely to climbing the peak of cuisine. That’s why I can make such delicious food."
"Order anything else you want. Today’s cakes are on me."
Cynthia shook her head.
"I’ve already eaten a lot of sweets today. Thank you for your kindness, Chef."
"Then next time. I’ll go serve the other customers."
Chef Saiba turned and gave Julian an encouraging look before returning to the kitchen.
After living in Veilstone City for eighteen years, and with people in the Pokémon world generally being warm-hearted, Julian had acquaintances almost everywhere he went.
They were like Julian’s family.
All of them hoped Julian could find such a gentle and beautiful girlfriend.
After staying in the dessert shop for more than an hour, the two slowly returned to the pottery studio.
The Garchomp, Flygon, and Gible clay figurines had all been fired and were waiting to cool before being taken out.
Cynthia was somewhat impatient.
She really wanted to know what the finished Gible figurine looked like.
Half an hour later, the pottery instructor finally brought out the three clay figurines Julian and Cynthia had made.
"Wow, so cute!"
Gible was vivid, lively, and adorable.
Then she looked at Garchomp.
It was mighty and domineering, as if it would lunge forward and use Dragon Rush in the next second.
Aside from the size being wrong, it was practically no different from a real Garchomp.
Finally, she looked at Flygon.
It instantly formed a sharp contrast with Gible and Garchomp.
So ugly
Cynthia immediately frowned.
Clearly, after Julian’s rescue work, Flygon had shown a bit of cuteness.
How had it become a green, ugly little monster after she coloured it?
Julian smiled and picked up Flygon.
"It’s ugly-cute. I’ll take this one back as a keepsake."
"As an exchange, the Garchomp I made will be yours to take back, Cassia."
Cynthia nodded happily.
"No problem!"
Julian...
And you say you do not know how to date.
Aren’t you quite good at it?
They carefully packed the three clay figurines in the pottery studio’s boxes.
After the two walked out of the pottery studio, Julian asked, "It’s about time. Should we find a place for dinner?"
Cynthia shook her head.
"No. I still have work tomorrow, so I need to go home."
Julian smiled.
"All right. Let’s arrange to meet again next time. There’s a beautiful waterfall on Verdant Cloud Mountain to the west. We can go for a spring outing, picnic, and camping trip."
Cynthia smiled and nodded.
"Sure. I’ll drive you back to Veilstone Gym."
After driving back to Veilstone Gym, Julian said before getting out, "Cassia, wait a moment."
"Ah?"
Cynthia was a little worried.
She had a feeling something strange was about to happen.
After getting out, Julian quickly ran into Veilstone Gym and soon came out again holding an enormous box.
"I bought some Veilstone City specialities. Cassia, take them back for your family to try."
As he spoke, Julian opened the boot of the off-road vehicle and stuffed the big box inside.
Cynthia did not even have time to refuse.
What bought specialities?
You clearly made them yourself
Could you not send an entire huge box every time you give someone specialities?
I can’t finish them
I really can’t finish them!
Seeing the figurine box in the passenger seat, Cynthia made a decision.
A sly smile tugged at her lips.
Garchomp, I’ll have to rely on you
And Lucario should be able to eat quite a lot too
"Then I’ll go first. See you next time, Julian."
"See you next time, Cassia."
Watching the off-road vehicle drive away, Julian kept waving.
He had only just walked back into Veilstone Gym when he heard a call from outside.
"Julian, you have a delivery."
Julian walked back out.
"Who sent me a package?"
The courier was also somewhat surprised.
"It was sent from Veilstone City. The sender didn’t leave a name."
Julian received the cardboard box and opened the seal.
Inside lay a Poké Ball and a piece of paper.
Julian took out the paper first.
There were several words written on it.
Julian, the Pokémon inside this Poké Ball is very suitable for your current situation. Consider it my gift to congratulate you on becoming Veilstone Gym’s provisional Leader.
I hope he can help you become the most outstanding Trainer in Sinnoh.
—Silas
A gift from Silas?
Julian took out the Poké Ball and released the Pokémon inside.
A jade-green upper body.
A pure white lower body.
Sharp blades at its elbows.
A head like a gladiator’s helmet.
Elegant and noble, like a martial god.
Gallade
The courier said in surprise, "He actually gave you such a Gallade. That’s generous!"
Although Julian knew Silas was the president of a company and fairly wealthy, he had not expected him to be this rich.
This was Gallade!
