The video continued playing.
Raina raised her head and looked at Brock on the opposite side of the battlefield.
Brock’s eyes remained narrowed, and a faint smile still rested on his face, but the presence he radiated was entirely different from when he had been cooking at home.
It was the composure of someone who had experienced countless battles and faced innumerable powerful opponents.
Raina took a deep breath and placed her hand on one of the Poké Balls at her waist.
Seeing this, the corners of Brock’s mouth rose slightly.
"Are you ready?"
Raina took two steps back and removed a Poké Ball from her waist.
"I’m ready!"
"Good."
Brock also stepped back.
"This will be a two-on-two Gym battle. You may freely switch your Pokémon during the match."
Raina looked down at the Poké Ball in her hand. After a moment of hesitation, she returned it to her waist and selected another one.
"Go, Gyarados!"
A flash of red light appeared.
An enormous creature, far larger than an ordinary Gyarados, crashed down at the center of the battlefield.
Its golden scales reflected dazzling light beneath the Gym’s skylights. The golden Gyarados coiled across the rocky field, and the slightest sweep of its tail generated a powerful gust of wind.
Furthermore, its eyes did not contain the violence and frenzy commonly seen in Gyarados. Instead, they were calm and composed.
Brock raised an eyebrow.
[VIP Chat Group]
[Ash]: A-A golden Gyarados?!
[Gary]: It isn’t Shiny. Shiny Gyarados are red.
[Brock]: That’s right. Ordinary Shiny Gyarados are red. I’ve never seen a golden one like this before.
[Professor Oak]: Hmm... Records of golden Gyarados are extraordinarily rare. They occasionally appear in ancient documents, but there have been almost no confirmed sightings in modern times.
[Lorelei]: Wait, does everyone remember? When Raina first caught Magikarp, Misty mentioned that its scales possessed a faint golden color. At the time, I assumed it was merely an exceptionally gifted individual, but now it seems... it was far more than that.
[Lance]: A golden Gyarados... "Rare" is no longer sufficient to describe it. It appears Raina’s battling ability is an entire level above our previous estimates.
[Agatha]: Hehe. Has anyone else noticed that this Gyarados’s eyes are also entirely different from those of an ordinary Gyarados? Gyarados are infamous for their violent temperaments and are often difficult to control for some time after evolving, yet this one is remarkably composed. That demonstrates just how deep its bond with its Trainer must be.
[Bruno]: Exactly! That is a bond! A genuine bond!
On the screen, Gyarados lowered its enormous head toward Raina.
Raina reached out and gently stroked the tip of its snout.
Gyarados released a deep, rumbling sound in response. It then lifted its head and turned toward Tyranitar, its gentle gaze instantly becoming sharp.

[Dawn]: I-Is it acting affectionate?!
[Max]: A Gyarados acting affectionate... Something about that feels so strange.
[May]: Then why does it still look so adorable...?
...
The video continued.
At the edge of the battlefield, Forrest raised one hand.
"Begin!"
The moment he finished speaking, Tyranitar threw back its head and roared.
A violent sandstorm instantly swept across the entire battlefield, drastically reducing visibility.
Brock’s unhurried voice echoed through the swirling sand.
"Tyranitar, use Rock Slide."
Tyranitar roared, and dozens of boulders rose from across the battlefield before raining down upon Gyarados from every direction.
"Gyarados, dodge!" Raina shouted.
At that moment, Gyarados displayed agility completely disproportionate to its enormous size.
It weaved through the gaps between the falling rocks, shattered one hurtling toward its face with a sweep of its tail, and twisted aside to evade two more. Its movements flowed together seamlessly, and not a single rock touched its body.
Brock nodded.
"Not bad. Tyranitar, use Crunch!"
Tyranitar’s enormous body erupted forward with astonishing speed. It opened its jaws and charged at Gyarados with enough biting force to crush steel.
"Gyarados, Aqua Tail!" Raina commanded.
Gyarados turned, its golden tail becoming enveloped in spiraling water as it struck Tyranitar’s Crunch head-on.
Boom!
The two forces collided.
Tyranitar clamped its jaws around Gyarados’s tail, holding it firmly as water exploded in every direction.
"High Horsepower!" Brock ordered.
Tyranitar violently swung its head, hurling Gyarados’s entire body into the air before slamming it heavily toward the ground.
"Gyarados!" Raina shouted.
[VIP Chat Group]
[Ash]: It caught Gyarados’s tail!
[Gary]: The difference in physical strength is too great. Gyarados can’t compete directly with Tyranitar’s power.
[Misty]: Raina, hurry and think of something...
[Daisy]: Don’t worry so much, Misty. The child can make her own decisions.
[Misty]: I’m not worried!
...
On the screen, Raina clenched her fists until her knuckles turned white, but she did not panic.
"Gyarados, use Rain Dance!"
Gyarados raised its head and released a deep rumble from the back of its throat.
Heavy storm clouds materialized beneath the Gym’s domed ceiling, and raindrops the size of beans began pouring onto the battlefield.
The rain suppressed the sandstorm.
The corners of Brock’s mouth rose.
"Using Rain Dance to counter the sandstorm? A good decision."
Rainwater struck Tyranitar’s rocky body and flowed down the grooves in its armor.
It was not enough to reverse the course of the battle, but Tyranitar had lost the advantage provided by its sandstorm.
"That alone won’t be enough," Brock said calmly. "Tyranitar, use Thunder Punch!"
Brilliant golden electricity instantly surrounded Tyranitar’s fist. It carved a dazzling arc through the curtain of rain as it flew directly toward Gyarados’s face.
[VIP Chat Group]
[Sawyer]: Thunder Punch?! Tyranitar can use Thunder Punch?!
[Gary]: Tyranitar has an extensive movepool. Thunder Punch is indeed one of the moves it can learn.
[Max]: Wait! If Gyarados gets hit by Thunder Punch—it has a four-times weakness to Electric-type moves!
On the screen, Raina watched Tyranitar’s electrified fist rapidly closing in, yet not the slightest trace of panic appeared in her eyes.
"Gyarados, Dragon Dance!"
Gyarados abruptly began rotating its body, twisting with a strange rhythm.
Thunder Punch grazed past its body.
Tyranitar’s attack missed.
While dancing, Gyarados adjusted its position and used the momentum to swing its tail. Aqua Tail formed once again and struck Tyranitar’s arm from the side.
Tyranitar’s attack was knocked off course for a second time.
Brock frowned slightly.
"...The Speed increase from Dragon Dance."
Raina also revealed a smile.
"Gyarados, use Dragon Dance again!"
Gyarados twisted its body once more. This time, its movements were even faster than before, its golden scales refracting dreamlike light through the falling rain.
[VIP Chat Group]
[Dawn]: Two Dragon Dances?! Gyarados’s Attack and Speed are both going to increase tremendously!
[Max]: But Tyranitar won’t give it another opportunity, will it?
[Brock]: I don’t think I—I mean, the parallel-world version of me—would allow an opponent to strengthen itself so comfortably.
[Barry]: I’m fining her! I’m definitely fining her! That girl has way too much nerve! She used Dragon Dance twice right in front of her opponent?! Does she think Tyranitar is a training dummy?!
[Ash]: Stop shouting, Barry! She’s battling really well!
[Barry]: What’s so good about it?! Tyranitar could defeat it with one punch—Huh?! It missed again?!
Just as expected, Tyranitar threw another punch, but Gyarados had already become considerably faster.
It twisted aside, planted its tail against the ground, and launched its entire body backward to create some distance.
For the first time, a change appeared in Brock’s voice.
"Tyranitar, use Rock Tomb!"
Tyranitar slammed both fists into the ground.
The battlefield trembled as several stone pillars descended around Gyarados, attempting to trap it.
"Gyarados, smash them with Aqua Tail!" Raina responded immediately.
Gyarados turned, its tail enveloped in spiraling water.
With one sweep, it shattered the nearest stone pillar. Then came the second, followed by the third—
Fragments of rock scattered across the battlefield as every pillar was smashed apart.
