The video continued playing.

This time, the scene took place beside a lake in the wilderness. Raina and Wartortle stood at the water’s edge, facing a wild Poliwag.

Poliwag appeared extremely nervous. Its tail swished rapidly through the water as it stared fixedly at Wartortle.

Raina crouched down and softened her voice.

"Don’t be afraid. We aren’t going to hurt you."

Wartortle also took a step forward and tilted its head.

"Wartortle."

Poliwag hesitated but did not retreat any farther.

Raina took a piece of Pokémon food from her pocket, placed it in her palm, and slowly held it out.

"Would you like some?"

Poliwag stared at her hand, then glanced at Wartortle as though trying to confirm something.

Nearly a minute passed.

At last, Poliwag swam closer and cautiously took the food from Raina’s palm.

Holding the food in its mouth, it watched her as the movement of its tail gradually slowed.

Raina smiled.

"Does it taste good?"

Poliwag chewed twice.

"Poli."

It swam a little closer.

Raina took out another piece.

This time, Poliwag ate directly from her palm and even rubbed itself against her fingers afterward.

[Regular-Seat Chat Group]

"Isn’t this child’s affinity with Pokémon a little too strong?"

"Another Pokémon approached her on its own? That Poliwag is wild, right?"

"It’s definitely wild. Judging by how nervous it was, it doesn’t look like a Pokémon someone released."

"Does this child have some kind of special constitution?"

"Wait, is she about to catch it just like that?"

"Probably not. She hasn’t even thrown a Poké Ball."

"Not necessarily. Some Trainers can win over Pokémon without using a Poké Ball."

"Wouldn’t that require a very experienced Trainer? She’s only seven or eight."

"Look at her expression. I think she might actually pull it off."

The video continued.

After feeding Poliwag a third piece of Pokémon food, Raina stood and brushed the dust from her knees.

"All right. We should head home now."

Poliwag looked up at her, its tail swaying slowly.

Raina crouched again and smiled as she gently stroked its head.

"If you want to come with us, you can. But if you prefer living here, you can stay."

Poliwag tilted its head as though considering her words.

Then it let out a soft cry.

"Poli."

It turned around and swam back into the lake.

Raina stared after it for a moment before smiling.

"All right. You chose to stay here."

"Wartortle."

Wartortle also called out, seemingly saying goodbye.

"Let’s go."

Raina turned around.

"Mommy is waiting for us to come home for dinner."

The girl and her Pokémon followed the path beside the lake.

After walking some distance, Raina stopped and glanced back at the water.

Poliwag was floating on the surface, watching her from afar.

Raina waved.

"Goodbye!"

She then turned and continued walking without looking back.

Behind her, Poliwag leaped above the surface and created a small splash.

[Regular-Seat Chat Group]

"Aaaaaah! How is this child so mature?!"

"She didn’t throw a Poké Ball?! She really didn’t?!"

"I’m crying. This child’s values are incredible."

"This is what a real Trainer should be like... She respected the Pokémon’s choice."

"I would’ve thrown a Poké Ball. That was a Poliwag! Imagine how powerful it would be after evolving into Poliwrath!"

"And that’s why you’ll never become Raina."

"...That hurt."

...

[VIP Chat Group]

[Max]: She isn’t going to catch it? But she fed it several times, and Poliwag clearly liked her...

[May]: Max, you don’t have to catch every Pokémon that becomes friendly with you.

[Max]: I know! I just think it’s a shame... Poliwag obviously liked her.

[May]: But Poliwag liked that lake even more. Staying there was its choice.

[Max]: ...

[May]: Catching it wasn’t the only possible outcome.

[Max]: I know. I just think... she’s amazing.

[Wallace]: May is right. There are many kinds of relationships between Trainers and Pokémon. Some become partners, some become friends, and some simply meet briefly before going their separate ways.

[Bruno]: Exactly! A truly strong person knows how to respect a Pokémon’s decision!

[Lance]: That was actually a rather sensible thing to say.

[Bruno]: Everything I say is sensible!

[Professor Oak]: This child’s attitude toward Pokémon is certainly admirable. Allowing Pokémon to make their own choices is one of the foundations of becoming an excellent Trainer.

[Cynthia]: Professor Oak is right. Judging by the way she treats Wartortle, Asher and Misty have raised her very well.

[Lorelei]: Hehe. This child’s judgment is already better than that of many adult Trainers.

[Bruno]: It’s natural talent! Some people instinctively understand how to get along with Pokémon!

[Iris]: I really like this child... I want to see what happens to her later!

[Leon]: So do I. She already possesses such sound judgment at only seven or eight years old. How much will she grow over the next few years?

[Raihan]: The next part should be about the beginning of her official journey, right?

[Cynthia]: I’m more curious about when she encounters Suicune and Lugia.

[Steven]: Oh? Someone has finally mentioned the important part.

[Wallace]: You’ve been waiting to say that this entire time, haven’t you?

[Steven]: Hehe. Aren’t you curious about how a child barely in her teens eventually manages to catch Suicune and Lugia?

[Brock]: ...Mr. Steven has a point. Suicune and Lugia are both Legendary Pokémon. Earning their recognition would be—

[Gary]: I suspect Raina may not be the key factor.

[Ash]: Not Raina? Then who is?

[Gary]: Her father.

[Ash]: ...Are you going to say Asher isn’t ordinary again?

[Gary]: He is clearly no ordinary Trainer. If that’s the case, how could he possibly neglect Raina’s development?

[Cynthia]: Gary is right. From what we have already seen, Asher’s knowledge of Pokémon and the way he educates Raina do not resemble those of a father who would simply leave his child to grow without guidance.

[Lance]: So what is your conclusion?

[Cynthia]: It is still too early to reach one. However, this man named Asher may actually be the hidden protagonist of this episode.

The scene changed once again.

Raina stood at the edge of the battlefield inside Cerulean Gym, with Wartortle beside her.

At the center of the arena, Misty was battling a challenger.

The challenger had sent out an Electabuzz. Electric-type attacks held a clear advantage against Water-type Pokémon.

Although Misty’s Starmie was agile, Electabuzz’s Thunder Punch repeatedly forced it backward.

Raina clenched her fists and bit her lip.

"Wartortle."

Wartortle rubbed against her leg.

"I know Mommy won’t lose," Raina whispered. "But... that Trainer’s Electabuzz is really strong."

On the battlefield, Starmie was finally struck.

Its body stiffened before it fell straight to the ground.

"Starmie is unable to battle! The winner is Trainer Yuta from Vermilion City!"

The moment the referee announced the result, the challenger on the opposite side raised his fist and cheered.

Misty recalled Starmie. She did not appear particularly discouraged and merely spoke calmly.

"That was an excellent battle."

Raina ran over.

"Mommy! Are you okay?"

"I’m fine."

Misty rubbed her head.

"Winning and losing are both normal. What matters is figuring out how to win next time."

Raina glanced at Yuta on the opposite side of the arena before looking down at Wartortle.

"Wartortle, let’s go train."

"Wartortle!"

Misty froze.

"Huh? Right now?"

"Right now!"

Raina was already pulling Wartortle toward the backyard.

"I’m going to become stronger and avenge Mommy!"

"A-Avenge me?"

Misty did not know whether to laugh or cry.

"That isn’t called revenge. It’s called—"

"I don’t care what it’s called! I’m going to beat him!"

Raina disappeared at the far end of the corridor.

Misty remained where she was, staring in the direction her daughter had gone for a long time.

She then turned toward the person beside her.

"Honey, did you teach her that?"

Asher smiled and handed her a cup of hot tea.

"I honestly didn’t this time."

"Then who did she inherit that stubborn refusal to lose from?"

"...You?"

Misty snorted.

"You."

The two looked at each other and laughed.

[VIP Chat Group]

[Ash]: Whoa... Raina has so much fighting spirit! The moment she saw her mother lose, she decided to avenge her!

[Gary]: It’s also because Asher is there to guide her. Haven’t you noticed? Whenever Raina decides to do something, he doesn’t stop her. He simply watches from a distance.

[Cynthia]: Gary has been observing closely. Giving a child enough freedom while remaining present and attentive... That parenting method is actually extremely difficult to achieve.

[Leon]: I’m curious about how Raina intends to train. How effective could the training methods of a seven- or eight-year-old child possibly be?

[Raihan]: Leon, you aren’t planning to steal her training methods, are you?

[Leon]: Why would I need to steal a little girl’s training methods?

[Raihan]: Then why did you ask?

[Leon]: I’m only... curious.

[Raihan]: Which means you want to steal them.

[Leon]: Raihan, shut up!
