The Pokémon that had been pranking Pikachu and the others was a Nuzleaf.
Seeing its scheme succeed, the Nuzleaf was overjoyed.
It lay on the tree branch, laughing wildly, completely unaware that Pikachu and the others had already regained their senses.

They saw Grovyle, Corphish, and the other Pokémon imprisoned in a cage like birds. Grovyle’s hands and feet were bound by vines, and the same went for Corphish’s two claws.
The cage was surrounded by Nuzleaf, and from time to time, a Nuzleaf would bring dry wood and place it in front of the cage.
"Oh my, the Ash’s Pokémon army has been captured by some strange fellows," Jessie said in surprise.
"It’s Nuzleaf, Meowth."
"Nuzleaf?"
"Yes, it seems to be a type of Pokémon that likes to play pranks," James added.
"It seems Corphish beat up one of the Nuzleaf, and now these Nuzleaf intend to roast them with fire, Meowth."
"That’s not very peaceful at all!"
"Never mind whether it’s peaceful or not. While the Ash isn’t here, let’s take those Pokémon away first!" Jessie decided.
"Great idea!"
Her suggestion was seen as an opportunity by Meowth and James, so the Team Rocket Trio began to prepare.
Seeing the Nuzleaf light a fire, Ash understood what they were about to do and shouted, "Pikachu, use Iron Tail to destroy that cage."

Pikachu used Iron Tail at maximum speed, instantly shattering the wooden cage.

Seeing Pikachu rescuing the hostages, the Nuzleaf were furious and clamored to teach Pikachu a lesson.
However, before they could make a move, a large net descended from the sky, scooping them all up.

The Team Rocket Trio cheered wildly on their hot air balloon.
"Team Rockets, why is it you three idiots again? Grovyle, use Leaf Blade to cut the net." Ash said.
"Grovyle~"
Grovyle took a running leap and slashed twice, tearing the net to shreds, and the Nuzleaf fell back to the ground.
"Ah! You wretched Grovyle, that’s cheating, Meowth!"
With their prey having flown away, Meowth was very upset.
"That’s right, destroying the net we worked so hard to make without a word, that’s just too much!" James complained tearfully.
"Ash, our target today is this group of Nuzleaf. Don’t get in our way!"
Just as they were planning to turn back to recapture the Nuzleaf, the Nuzleaf simultaneously unleashed Razor Leaf at the trio.
After the hot air balloon was accidentally punctured, the trio plummeted back to the ground.
Because of Team Rockets’ interference, the conflict between the Nuzleaf and Pikachu’s group shifted onto Team Rockets.
So, looking at the Team Rocket Trio who had fallen back to the ground, the Nuzleaf bared sinister smiles.
"W-what do you want to do?"
"We just wanted to play a joke on you, Meowth!"
"That’s right, we saw you were bored, so we wanted to add some fun for you."
Seeing the smiles on the Nuzleaf’s faces, the Team Rocket Trio panicked instantly.
They flatly denied that they were trying to capture them.
After rescuing the Pokémon, Ash and his friends left the Nuzleaf’s territory without looking back.
