The Lord of Paradise hadn’t expected the young woman to return so quickly. ’I’m not sure whether to praise her for getting bolder, for daring to slowly approach me,’ he thought.
To show her sincerity, Yu Zhizhi suppressed her anxiety and walked step by step to the center of the hall.
As she drew closer, the man lifted his gaze to her. His mismatched eyes held a deep, hidden light.
The little rabbit’s complexion was exceptionally good. A faint blush colored her snow-white cheeks, and the corners of her eyes held an ineffable allure. His gaze traveled down her jaw to her collar, where red bite marks were faintly visible.
Hidden beneath the pure white robe was the evidence of a night of passion.
Under the light, the man’s mismatched eyes shimmered with iridescent light. On his pale face, his emerald-green left eye and his ink-black right eye each possessed a unique charm, yet they seemed perfectly suited for each other.
He leaned casually against the headboard, his eyes narrowed slightly as he uttered a single word, "Speak."
"I’m looking for someone."
Yu Zhizhi brought up the chat log on her wristband, rotating the floating screen to slowly face the man on the bed.
The Lord of Paradise glanced at it. "Don’t bother me with such trivial matters."
Yu Zhizhi froze.
’I don’t know when Lou will be back,’ she thought. ’He might not come back at all. Last night he was obviously drunk, and he wasn’t acting like himself.’
’When he’s sober, he’ll probably still be angry with me. He might just ignore me...’
"Then, can you please just tell me... is he still alive?"
The outer perimeter of the Holy Temple was fraught with danger. The young Mantis boy had been out of contact with the team for two days, and she didn’t know if he was still alive.
The Lord of Paradise was a little surprised that the young woman wasn’t stubbornly trying to persuade him to perform the rescue.
He said flatly, "He’s not dead."
Yu Zhizhi lifted her white robe with both hands, gave a slight bow, then turned and ran out of the hall.
The Crow was astonished. "Miss Turtle and Rabbit isn’t actually going to the outer perimeter, is she?"
The latest message in the chat log he had just seen was a location sent by her other two teammates.
Now that her wristband signal was working, she could follow the coordinates and meet up with her teammates.
"Leader, aren’t we going to help?"
If Miss Turtle and Rabbit ran into danger, if something truly happened to her, the Crow couldn’t even imagine the consequences.
The Lord of Paradise snorted. "Lou brought her here. He can deal with it himself."
His expression impassive, he rose and walked out of the hall.
The Crow muttered, "Didn’t he just say to let Leader Louis solve it himself?"
Yu Zhizhi was wearing a white robe from the Holy Temple and had the Lighthouse Seal on her hand, so the many patrolling attendants she encountered were all exceptionally respectful.
The Holy Temple was in a state of near-perpetual night. Purple vortexes often swirled in the sky, occasionally accompanied by flashes of silver lightning.
Thanks to her current status as an "honored guest," she received help from patrol teams along the way and arrived safely at the outer perimeter.
—This place was a long way from the central region of the Holy Temple.
Many wandering Fallen Species roamed the outer perimeter, rumored to be the results of failed experiments.
The patrol team’s leader looked troubled. "Miss, are you sure you want to go to the outer perimeter?"
"Yes." Yu Zhizhi nodded.
’In the past, when she was with her teammates and Lou wasn’t around, it was always the White-eyed Young Boy who protected her.’
’He never left her side.’
The distance from the Holy Temple to the outer perimeter was vast. Whether it was Lou or Louis, their time was extremely limited.
’The person who could help her the most was the Lord of Paradise.’
However, Yu Zhizhi had almost no connection to him.
’She knew he had no reason he was obligated to help her.’
"Well... I wish you the best of luck."
The patrol team had not received orders to leave the Holy Temple’s territory.
The outer perimeter was not part of their designated area of responsibility.
This was the final, most chaotic zone. Only teams that could make it through the outer perimeter would earn a ticket into the Holy Temple proper.
Yu Zhizhi spotted the figure of the Leopard hiding behind some distant ruins, waving furtively at her.
She gave the patrol team a small smile, then turned and ran toward him.
The Leopard and the Stag had both come to meet her!
"Ms. Zhi Zhi, didn’t Lord Lou come with you?" The Leopard looked past her with longing, but he saw no one else behind her.
Yu Zhizhi shook her head.
The Leopard sighed. ’We’re done for,’ he thought. ’That little guy’s prospects are looking grim.’
The Stag spoke up. "Let’s search for him first. If we can find him, there might still be a chance. After all, Ms. Zhi Zhi has a Healing System talent. Saving him will be no problem for her!"
"That’s true," the Leopard agreed.
The Leopard took the lead, glancing back at the female from the Turtle Clan. "Ms. Zhi Zhi, we found the little mantis’s wristband in the Flame Cave yesterday. That might be the last place he was. Sigh... he might already be dead."
"He’s alive." Yu Zhizhi wiped the sweat from her forehead, her voice firm with conviction. "He’s still alive."
The outer perimeter was hot.
Perhaps because it was close to the Flame Cave.
It grew hotter the farther they advanced, a stark contrast to the Holy Temple.
They passed through a field of rubble, gradually feeling waves of heat wash over them. The Leopard led the way, his movements swift and agile. Yu Zhizhi walked in the middle, with the Stag bringing up the rear.
As they entered the Flame Cave region, they could see rivers of lava flowing in the distance.
The Leopard suddenly stopped, quickly pulling his two teammates behind a nearby rock face.
"Someone’s here!"
In all their days in the outer perimeter, this was the first time they had seen another living Beastman!
Usually, they only encountered Fallen Species, which they carefully avoided without incident.
But other contestants were a different story.
Anyone who made it this far alive was not to be underestimated.
Although the Leopard had hidden them quickly, their presence was still detected.
The male from the Bear Clan standing guard raised his arm and spoke into his wristband. "Attention, all team members. I’ve spotted Beastmen from another team at coordinates 344.466. Three individuals total—two males, one female."
After lowering his arm, the figure of the Bear Clan member suddenly shot into the air.
A massive shadow fell over them. Before they could react, the figure landed heavily on the ground right in front of them, kicking up a cloud of dust and grit.
"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..." Caught off guard, Yu Zhizhi inhaled a lungful of dust. She clamped her hands over her mouth, unable to stop coughing.
Panic flashed across the Leopard’s face. "W-We’re screwed—"
The Bear Clan member was huge, and the pressure he exuded just by standing up was immense. His gaze swept over the three of them, finally landing on the frail-looking young female from the Turtle Clan.
He stared at the young female for a long moment.
Though frightened, the Leopard gritted his teeth. "Lord 91 is on his way! If you know what’s good for you, don’t go looking for trouble!"
The Bear Clan male acted as if he hadn’t heard the warning.
He slowly approached.
Just as the Leopard and the Stag thought he was about to attack, the brown bear suddenly dropped to one knee. "Honorable Healer, please save my companion!"
The Leopard froze.
Yu Zhizhi had just stopped coughing, and her throat was still scratchy. She stared blankly at the kneeling Bear Clan male. Even on his knees, he was much taller than she was.
"You know me?"
The Bear Clan man nodded. "I’ve seen the livestreams. I know about Miss Number 13’s Talent Ability. My little brother is seriously injured. As long as the Honorable Healer is willing to save him, my life is yours!"
The Leopard’s livestream chat exploded.
[HOLY SHIT! Bear Team actually just knelt!]
[AHHH! Look who it is! It’s the long-absent little female from the Turtle Clan!]
[WE FINALLY FOUND YOU! THANK GOODNESS I DIDN’T GIVE UP!!]
In the distance, a dark shadow landed behind the ruins.
