Huh?!
A joint meeting of the Three Great Empires?!
Yu Zhizhi was startled. She quickly burrowed deeper, her shell brushing against the outside of his thigh as she cautiously nestled closer.
He chuckled, sensing the little female’s turtle shell flinch slightly.
In the past, these were the moments Lou found most boring. It couldn’t be helped; with Spider not present, he had to fill in.
But now that he had his little turtle, he found it all quite amusing.
Especially since—
Lou knew her true identity: a little rabbit from the Valoran Empire.
The Moon Rising Border had recently been turned upside down for her.
The Guard Teams from the Divine City and Paradise had conducted an exhaustive, comprehensive search, yet they still couldn’t find a trace of the Rabbit Clan female.
Before, Louis had lingered in Paradise Star Street for a rabbit, but Lou hadn’t been interested in her at the time and hadn’t paid much attention to outside affairs.
Ever since he found out his little turtle was that rabbit, he had specifically looked up all her records within the Empire.
And that’s how he learned about the Rabbit Clan female’s "escape."
It matched what she had told him—
she was in disguise so the Guard Team wouldn’t take her away.
Yu Zhizhi felt perfectly safe hiding under Lou’s robe. Soon, she heard a BEEPING sound coming from the side hall.
Lou leaned back in his plush chair, his gaze lowered. A massive virtual screen materialized in the air above the coffee table.
There were ten video projection frames in total.
Each Empire occupied three spots, with one remaining for the neutral moderator.
They were all familiar faces, so they skipped the pleasantries and went straight to voicing their opinions on the Winter Campaign at the front lines.
Yu Zhizhi listened in silence.
’This is a bit complicated.’
It seemed the three empires were negotiating a truce period. Among them, the council member from the Deep Sea was speaking with extreme arrogance.
Throughout this, Lou just lazily lifted his eyes, his fingers gently scratching the little turtle’s shell.
Another council member from the Moon Rising Empire noticed the Lord of Paradise was distracted.
’His illness must be acting up again,’ he thought. ’The fact that he’s even sitting here properly for the meeting is already giving us a lot of face.’
Halfway through the meeting, someone called out "Marshal," followed immediately by "Prince Yusen."
Yu Zhizhi’s head snapped up.
The robe was pressing down on her shell, so she couldn’t see a thing.
A new participant had joined from the Deep Sea Empire’s side.
’...Yusen?’
Her heart quivered at the name. She slowly dragged her shell to the edge of the robe and secretly peeked out with half her turtle head.
From the gap under the coffee table, she could see the video feed in the air.
But most of it was blocked.
And as for Yusen, Yu Zhizhi couldn’t see him; she could only hear Sensen’s voice.
It was like the late-night snow on Zero Star Street—cold and calm.
She couldn’t help but inch forward a couple of steps...
Half of the little turtle’s body was now sticking out. Leaning against the leg of the coffee table, she finally saw Yusen.
The newly-appointed prince of the Deep Sea Empire was dressed in a gold and white noble’s uniform, his delicate and handsome features like a masterpiece of art.
Yusen’s long brown hair had been cut short, making him look a bit more mature than before. His pale blue fins looked like magnificent works of art. He was currently looking down at a document in his hands, his face devoid of any extraneous expression.
’...He made it back to his homeland safely.’
A trace of joy welled up in Yu Zhizhi’s heart at the thought. She took a small step back, and her turtle’s hind leg bumped against the coffee table, making a faint noise.
Lou glanced over.
Yu Zhizhi’s little tail hurt a bit, but she didn’t dare make a sound.
"That is the full content of the proposal. If there are no objections, we will now begin a six-month truce period."
The meeting continued.
The moderator’s voice was tinged with age, yet steady and strong.
Lou saw the little turtle’s curled-up tail and chuckled inwardly. He couldn’t resist reaching out to scratch the end of her shell.
The video camera caught this moment.
The council members from the Empires all noticed that the Lord of Paradise was teasing a little turtle.
Yusen glanced over, then looked away, his expression unchanged.
"Ahem..." The black Crow perched on the coffee table gave a light cough as a reminder. "Leader, it’s time to cast your vote."
Even though Leader Lou found the meeting boring, "slacking off" in front of everyone like this wasn’t a good look, was it?
The other two council members from the Moon Rising Empire, both with graying hair, saw that Lou hadn’t moved. Their expressions shifted slightly, and after some deliberation, one of them slowly spoke up:
"Master Spider, do you have any other thoughts?"
Lou saw the little turtle retract her limbs. He gave her little paw a tug and said lazily, "No."
He picked up the red card on the table and raised it, indicating his approval of the meeting’s decision.
The meeting proceeded.
Next was a step-by-step analysis of the peace treaty’s clauses.
The two council members from the Moon Rising Empire were very focused, but they would still observe the Lord of Paradise’s reactions from time to time.
The little turtle was gone.
Or rather, the camera couldn’t capture it for the moment.
Judging by the Lord of Paradise’s posture, he was likely toying with the turtle shell in his hands now, a faint smile playing on the young man’s lips.
This was rather different from the Lord of Paradise’s usual demeanor.
The two council members glanced at each other—
’We’ve already guessed that Master Spider must be having an episode.’
’The one who appeared this time should be the personality called Lou, right? Louis is comparatively calmer.’
Yu Zhizhi lay in Lou’s palm, feeling him stroking her shell.
She let her little paws poke out again.
The treaty clauses were tedious and complex, and Yusen didn’t speak again during this time. Yu Zhizhi really wanted to hear Sensen’s voice again.
If possible, she even wanted to talk to Sensen.
Ask him how he’s been...
The meeting was almost over.
Yu Zhizhi lifted her front paws, propping herself up on the coffee table. With her hind feet planted in Lou’s palm, she craned her neck to look at the large screen in front of her.
Yusen’s expression was no different than before.
His light blue eyes were just like the azure sky. His slightly lowered gaze fell upon the Paradise Lord from the Moon Rising Empire, and he saw the little turtle propped up on its upper body on the coffee table. It was staring blankly at him.
A green freshwater turtle, half the size of a palm, with round, jet-black eyes. For a fleeting moment, Yusen seemed to see a certain figure in it.
Realizing that he still thought of her inadvertently...
Yusen’s expression faltered slightly. His face quickly tensed, and the depths of his ice-blue eyes grew even colder.
The joint meeting of the Three Great Empires was formally declared over.
Yusen immediately stood up and left without a backward glance.
Lou was also preparing to close the video feed.
Just then, he heard the black Crow say in a low voice, "Lord Leader, next is the alliance meeting between the Moon Rising Empire and the Valoran Empire. This meeting is extremely important; we cannot be absent."
The joint meeting of the Three Great Empires had settled on a six-month truce.
The alliance meeting that followed must also have important matters to discuss.
Lou gave a soft "mhm."
He saw that the little turtle’s front limbs were still propped on the coffee table. The video feeds for the Moon Rising Empire had all closed, but she still hadn’t snapped out of her daze.
Lou’s tone was sour. "Can’t bear to see him go?"
