Pregnant Bunny, Obsessed Beast Husbands

Chapter 199: The Beginning of the Split

An abrupt knock suddenly sounded.

Yu Zhizhi was startled, and the hand holding the Ancient Book trembled.

In an instant, the surrounding scene warped into an illusion as layers of Cloud Mist swirled all around.

When the white mist cleared, she found herself in the form of a rabbit, perched on a familiar windowsill.

In the corner sat a pot with a withered flower.

The Little Spider hadn’t been saved. There was no small, dim, yet safe refuge, and certainly no one to give the Little Spider warmth and food.

None of it was real.

Yu Zhizhi stared down, bewildered, at her own fluffy rabbit paws pressed together. For some reason, a sudden wave of sadness washed over her.

’I really want to save the Little Spider.’

Suddenly, she heard the old man inside chanting a Spell. Peeking through a crack in the window, Yu Zhizhi saw the purple-robed elder hoisting the Little Spider into the air. A ghastly blade of Light sliced upward along its abdomen.

This one was a size larger than the Little Spider Yu Zhizhi had rescued.

’Did time jump?’

’Has the Little Spider gotten bigger?’

’And to think, for every second that passed for me, the Little Spider was tortured like this for years.’

The dark green Little Spider, dangling from a red cord, struggled with all its might. Yu Zhizhi heard its weak, childlike, trembling voice—

"...I’m sorry, Master Vich. Please, forgive me."

The Little Spider’s abdomen was slit open, and fresh blood trickled down, drop by drop.

The old man’s mustache twitched. His voice was ancient and grim. "Don’t even think about escaping. I won’t find another arthropod with such abundant Life Force as you anytime soon."

"You are contributing to the great art of Dark Magic. You should be honored."

"The Empire is in turmoil these days, so I must press on with my practice. By the next hunting season, I’ll be able to do more for my master."

His words faded into an indistinct drone.

The Little Spider watched its own leg fall away.

It was powerless to resist.

Something was torn from its body, only to be shoved back in. The same crude, ugly stitches followed, an endless cycle.

Yu Zhizhi couldn’t bear to watch the cruel scene, bloodier than any torture.

She lowered her head, the bridge of her nose stinging with the urge to cry.

When the experiment was over, the old man released the rope. The dark green Little Spider fell to the floor. The old man grabbed a nearby wine jug, opened the door, and left.

The Little Spider trembled, then slowly took one of its unstitched limbs in its mandibles.

Little by little, holding the severed leg, it dragged itself into the gap beneath a cabinet.

There lay a rough, worn-out shoe insole.

That was its little nest.

Perched outside the window, Yu Zhizhi watched in silence.

She knew her presence here could change nothing. It was like watching an old, sepia-toned film.

She was merely an observer.

She could never rush into the film and change the character’s fate.

"HISS... HISS..."

The Little Spider gently extruded a white silk thread, a little more skillfully than when it was first captured. Its round, mismatched eyes narrowed slightly as it fumbled to thread the needle.

Upon succeeding, it happily lifted its legs, but the movement sent a jolt of pain through it, and its eyes welled up.

It grew still.

In silence, it began to neatly sew its severed limb back on.

It lay on the filthy insole and took out a small gold nugget it had hidden away.

It had stolen it while the old man was asleep in the lab.

’The little gold nugget could be traded for so much food.’

’If I can escape this room one day, I’ll be able to survive all by myself in the lighthouse!’

The Little Spider hugged the fingernail-sized gold nugget, tucking it beneath its belly for warmth. It licked its legs, its mind filled with thoughts of a wonderful, free tomorrow.

"Hee hee... hee hee hee..."

The Little Spider’s childish laughter had a simple, innocent sound.

It only made Yu Zhizhi’s heart ache more.

It was full of hopeful dreams.

As it slept, it buried its face in the insole, occasionally stretching a leg as if lost in a beautiful dream.

Leaning against the windowsill, Yu Zhizhi drifted off to sleep.

In her dreams, she thought she saw Lou, and he was telling her about the lighthouse.

He said the lighthouse was so tall you could reach out and pluck the stars from the sky.

He also said that everyone at the lighthouse was very kind.

’...Is this what he calls kind?’

In a stupor, Yu Zhizhi was jolted awake.

The purple-robed elder was drunk. In his hand, he held a thick needle, which he brutally plunged into the Little Spider’s trembling body.

"You little beast! You dare hide a gold nugget from me? Do you have a death wish?!"

The Little Spider was bound to the cabinet, unable to move.

It shivered uncontrollably.

The steel needle was long, nearly impaling it completely. Black blood oozed from the hole punched through its round, bulging abdomen.

At that moment, it wished someone—anyone—would come and save it.

In its heart, the Little Spider prayed to the Beast God a thousand times over.

The Beast God never appeared.

It fell into despair.

It stopped struggling.

Foul blood dripped down. Its mismatched eyes turned dull and numb.

Gradually, the one remaining jade-green eye also turned a deep, inky black.

His anger vented, the old man sat back in his chair, wine jug in hand, and began to doze off.

Perched on the windowsill, Yu Zhizhi stared, stunned, as the Little Spider, now with two black eyes, calmly undid its own restraints.

It lifted a leg. A strand of silk shot through the wine-stenched air and wrapped around the old man’s wrinkled neck.

The man mumbled a few words. Noticing the discomfort, he reached for his neck.

He broke out in a cold sweat.

The purple-robed elder was instantly awake.

He didn’t know when the little beast before him had awakened its spiritual power. He struggled frantically, but the mark on his neck only deepened.

The Little Spider that used to do nothing but tremble, cry, and beg for mercy was now staring at him with cold indifference.

In the dim light, its dark downy hair seemed to float with a faint, blood-red sheen.

The sturdy silk tightened, cutting through skin, sinking past muscle and bone, and piercing the carotid artery. Like a dull knife sawing through flesh, it slowly, bit by bit, severed his head amidst his agonizing struggles.

The purple-robed elder’s head fell from his body.

It rolled underneath the cabinet.

His headless corpse remained seated in the chair. The wine jug on the table had tipped over, its contents spilling across the floor and mixing with blood, filling the room with a nauseating stench.

The Little Spider retracted its silk.

It methodically licked the black hairs on its leg, then, after a moment of thought, crawled to the top of the cabinet. It tipped over a corrosive potion, pouring the entire contents onto the elder’s corpse.

SIZZLE—

It sounded like meat cooking on a grill.

The elder’s body quickly dissolved into a puddle of foul liquid, the purple robe corroding along with it.

The Little Spider watched this scene with satisfaction.

The next second, its body stiffened.

Yu Zhizhi watched nervously. She could roughly recognize this one who had just killed the old Wizard—it was Louis.

Males of the Beast Clan typically gain their human form after the age of three.

But due to his special circumstances, the Little Spider was a full six years old before his first transformation.

The Little Spider’s stiffened body slowly sprouted the torso of a human child, and its spider half grew significantly larger as well.

He had jade-green eyes, and the first thing he saw upon appearing was the puddle on the floor—

"BLECH—"

He vomited violently and couldn’t stop.

Lou!

A flash of joy crossed Yu Zhizhi’s face. ’Lou has appeared!’

She tried to squeeze into the room, but just as she pressed her forehead to the iron bars of the window, she saw the half-Beast Form spider on the cabinet. His mismatched eyes had returned.

He stared blankly at the scene in the room.

Suddenly, he looked toward the window.

The Little Spider saw the rabbit.

His voice grew excited—
