Mimi of the Dolphin Clan lived in the Royal Capital and was about the same age as Yu Zhizhi. The first time they met, Mimi had mistaken the pretty little rabbit for someone Buli had brought home. Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, the two hit it off instantly.
Although her family was ancient, they couldn’t freely enter the Royal Palace.
Every visit required a tedious ceremony.
But Mimi never tired of it.
After all, besides finally finding a friend she liked, visiting the Royal Palace meant she could see Buli, whom she longed for day and night.
An official had come to Bishui Pavilion today, so both Shen He and Yusen were in the reception hall.
The moment she walked in,
Mimi eagerly took out the precious treasure she’d gotten from her cousin’s wedding: a stunningly beautiful blue rose, glittering inside a crystal box.
"Look, Zhi Zhi! Out of all the females there, I was the one who caught it. This means I’ll soon be with the man I have my heart set on."
"It’s gorgeous."
Yu Zhizhi gazed at the blooming blue rose through the crystal, looking as though it would stay that way forever.
Mimi beamed. "Oh, right," she asked, "you mentioned on the communicator that you had a favor to ask me. What is it? I’ve been wondering about it since last night. I’m dying of curiosity!"
"Well..."
Yu Zhizhi couldn’t help but glance out the window. Bishui Pavilion was quiet during the day, and the reception hall was far from her bedchambers. She lowered her voice. "In the Royal Capital, are there any... places where noble ladies go for entertainment?"
’Kind of like how the Lost Tower at Moonrise Paradise was so popular with the noble ladies.’
Mimi sat on her chair and thought for a moment. "Of course, there are lots! Do you want to go? I can take you next time you leave the Royal Palace. What kind of place do you like? I can arrange everything in advance."
"Are there any from the Shark Clan?"
A teasing smile crept onto Mimi’s face when she heard the word "shark."
"Definitely! A lot of noble ladies love finding Shark Clan males~"
"Why?" Yu Zhizhi was taken aback.
"Hahaha, because of our great Imperial Marshal, Lord Shen He, of course!" Mimi said with a giggle. "Since Lord Shen He is so hard to get close to, the ladies of the Imperial City have to find... substitutes."
She pulled out her communicator, summoned a small holographic panel, and sat down beside Yu Zhizhi.
"Zhi Zhi, look at this place. They have a few sharks. This one is the most popular—a Blue Shark male. He’s so handsome."
Yu Zhizhi gave it a quick glance. It was a young man with blue hair and sharp, chiseled features. He was incredibly handsome and seemed to have a bright, cheerful personality, reminding her of a boy band idol she’d seen on TV.
His profile clearly stated "Shark Clan."
’A Blue Shark. He should be able to complete the mission.’
Yu Zhizhi nodded.
Mimi was overjoyed. "Great! I’ll make the arrangements now, and then I can take you right there when it’s time!"
「Two days later.」
The day to leave the Royal Palace arrived. Yu Zhizhi and Mimi had agreed on a time and were leaving the room together when they ran right into the Political Officer just outside the door.
When Mimi saw him, she called out happily, "Second Uncle~"
A smile touched the middle-aged man’s face. "Mimi, is that you? I haven’t seen you in years. You’ve gotten so tall."
"You’re always the busiest, Second Uncle. Yesterday was Cousin Wanwan’s wedding, and you didn’t even show up."
"Is Wanwan doing well?"
Mimi replied, "My cousin is doing great. She had two Beast Husbands at her wedding yesterday, at the same time."
The Political Officer paused. While it was true that on the Beast World Planet, high-status females could often have many Beast Husbands, a simultaneous wedding ceremony for two of them was still quite rare.
Shen He and Buli arrived a moment later.
When Mimi saw Buli, she waved eagerly.
Yusen came out as well and found everyone standing in the courtyard. Upon seeing him, the middle-aged official bowed and stepped aside to clear a path.
He had been staying almost exclusively in the Royal Palace since the old King fell gravely ill, so he was completely out of the loop regarding his family’s affairs.
He couldn’t help but ask, "How could they agree to have the wedding together?"
Mimi bowed to Lord Shen He and Prince You Sen as was customary. Straightening up, she said, "They’re like Lord Shen He and Prince You Sen—blood brothers. That’s why they don’t care who becomes the First Beast Husband~"
"Maybe someday, Lord Shen He and Prince You Sen will also marry the same noble lady on the same day! Like, for example, our adorable Ms. Zhi Zhi~"
The Political Officer’s face fell. He let out a sharp cough, a clear warning to his loose-lipped little niece that some people were not to be joked about.
A sudden silence fell over Bishui Pavilion.
Buli’s eyes widened in shock—
’Lord Shen He and Prince You Sen... sharing a wife?’
’That’s absolutely impossible.’
’That subject is completely taboo for Lord Shen He.’
No one said a word.
Hearing Mimi’s words, Yu Zhizhi looked up, stunned. She instinctively took two steps back, hiding behind a pillar.
Yusen’s expression remained placid. He continued walking, and the Political Officer bowed low as he passed.
Shen He’s gaze shifted from Yusen to the "little mouse."
’He’d learned something very "interesting" today.’
Realizing she’d said the wrong thing, Mimi quickly gathered her skirts and beat a hasty retreat. "I have to go, Second Uncle! I’ll contact you later, Ms. Zhi Zhi! Bye, Buli~"
Yusen and the Political Officer left Bishui Pavilion, one following the other.
Yu Zhizhi slowly turned and went back to her room.
Just as she was about to close the door, a large hand shot out and gripped the frame. Shen He then pushed the door open and strode inside.
Buli, who was still in the courtyard, immediately turned and left, taking up a guard position outside Bishui Pavilion’s main gate.
"Hiding from me?"
Shen He glanced at the little rabbit cowering in the corner. The girl had her back pressed against the wall, her body trembling involuntarily.
"Don’t you have anything to say about that night?"
Shen He’s tone was unreadable. From the moment he’d forced his way into the room, his towering figure blocked out all the light.
"...I’m sorry." Yu Zhizhi lowered her head, her rabbit ears drooping.
"Sorry for what?"
"I shouldn’t have thought of taking advantage of you when you were drunk."
Yu Zhizhi watched the man’s large, menacing shadow creep across the floor toward her, finally stopping right in front of her.
The intense pressure radiating from the shark-man was so overwhelming that she didn’t dare look up.
Shen He’s stone-gray eyes narrowed as he stared at the trembling little female before him. "I heard a piece of news today. I thought I’d come and have you confirm it. Raise your head. Look at me."
Yu Zhizhi’s breath caught. She stiffly raised her head to meet the deep, gray eyes of the man before her, so close she could almost see her own reflection in them.
The little rabbit had been avoiding him for the past few days.
Shen He hadn’t been this close to her in a long time. His gaze fell on her small, porcelain-white face. He could see a faint sheen of sweat on the tip of her nose from her panic. Her clear rabbit eyes couldn’t bear to look at him, yet she forced herself to meet his gaze.
The deep purple court maid’s dress clung to her petite frame, which was surprisingly ample in certain places.
