Primordial Red Goblin

I sent the safe into my ring and we returned to the orphanage. We arrived just as the children were returning from school. We walked into the door followed by the running boys. Then the girls walked in and greeted the sisters as they walked by. The oldest girl girl I talked to at the pastry shop stopped when she came in. She greeted the sisters and noticed the collars on their necks.

"Sisters why are you wearing collars?" The girl asked.

"Mister Red has become the orphanage’s legal sponsor. The church put the collars on us and put us under his command." Answered sister Lilly.

"What does that mean?" The girl asked.

"Fantastic question. Let’s gather everyone in the day room." I said.

The sisters gathered everyone in the day room and once everyone was seated she made the announcement.

"Mister Red has become the official sponsor of this orphanage." She said.

The children began whispering to each other.

"That means the church of the Blessed Goddess has made him the owner of this orphanage. He has agreed to use his own coin to take care of all of you children and us sisters. As you see he has already bought all of you new beds, clothes, toys, and books. The sisters and I no longer need to spend our days on the street corners begging strangers for donations to keep the orphanage running." Sister Lilly explained.

The children’s whispering became a low excited murmer.

I stepped forward and the children went silent.

"Starting tomorrow the sisters will take every child that is at least ten years old to the training grounds after school three times a week. There you can try different fighting styles until you find one you like and you will train regularly. Those of you who choose to become adventurers when you turn eighteen I will buy you a full set of steel armor and a weapon or a set of leather armor and a bow if you want to be an archer. If you decide to join one of the tradesman guilds I will pay for your apprenticeship and your initial set of tools." I announced.

The children and the sisters began speaking over one another excitedly. I let them speak for a while before turning and leaving the room. My girls and the sisters followed me out of the room. I went up to the attic and once everyone was in the room I removed my helmet.

"Since this is my orphanage now I will be sleeping here when I’m in the city so I don’t have to spend coin on the hotel. I need you sisters to move your beds around so there is enough room against that back wall for a bed big enough for my wives and me." I said.

The sisters began moving their beds and making room. I went to a back corner of the room and removed the safe from my ring placing it in the corner. I linked my hand print to the safe before linking each of my wives to it. Then I called the sisters over and linked them to it. I locked it and unlocked it a couple times to make sure it worked properly. Then I opened a drawer and put thirty gold in it. Then I put one hundred silver in another drawer and five hundred bronze in a third drawer. I then closed the safe and locked it.

"I want a detailed report of every coin spent from now on." I said.

"Of course sir." Sister Lilly said.

"Now if there is nothing else I would like to take the sisters to get some nightgowns." Sarah said.

Sarah and the girls took two of the sisters to the shop while the other three went to the kitchen to begin making dinner for the children. When they returned sister Lilly and sister Alice walked in behind the girls.

"Do we really have to wear these to bed?" Sister Lilly asked.

"What did Sarah say?" I asked.

"She ordered us to wear them every night but we don’t have to leave the attic with them on." She answered.

"As I said. You sisters will answer to Sarah. If she gives you an order that doesn’t contradict my orders then you must do as she says." I replied.

I watched as everyone ate dinner. The sisters served them what looked like porridge.

"Is this what they eat everyday?" I asked.

"Yes. It cost only three bronze per day to feed the kids with this. It is nutritious and has everything the kids need to be healthy." She said.

"From now on use the coin I put in the safe to feed them real food. I better not see them eating this stuff again after today." I said.

"Yes sir." Sister Lilly said.

After dinner Sarah asked for some coin and I gave her one gold then the girls took the other three sisters to the shop while I went to the bed store and bought a bed big enough for my girls and me. It cost six silver for the bed, the blankets and sheets, and five pillows. I returned to the orphanage and went to the attic. I removed the new bed from my ring and placed it in the center of the back wall. I stayed in the attic until the girls returned and entered the attic.

"Just wait until you see the nightgowns I got for the sisters." Sarah said.

"How do the other sisters feel about them? Sister Lilly doesn’t seem to like it." I said.

"Sister Lilly will get used to it. Sister Nyx seems to think hers is kind of cute." Sarah said. I went downstairs and saw the children scattered around the house. I walked around to check on the repairs that had been done since I left two weeks ago. About half of the ground floor had been restored.

"This place is starting to look livable." I said.
