Primordial Red Goblin

Chapter 88: A Crime Family

"So Lucy, what do you think mother will say when she sees her gandbabies?" Sarah asked.

"She will say how beautiful they are." Lucy said scowling as Sarah.

"Eventually we will have to tell her what Erik is." Sarah said.

We walked through town and saw the arena. I checked the postings above the ticket office.

"You’re not thinking about signing up are you?" Nyx asked.

"Why not? I heard you can earn a lot of coin in the arena." I said.

"You could die in the arena." Nyx replied.

After reading the board I decided not to sign up.

"Nah, you have to work your way up the rankings and the pay starts out at five silver. It would take too long to earn enough coin for it to be worth it." I said.

Just then a man by the ticket counter called out to me.

"Hey big guy, you with all the women." He yelled.

We turned to look at him.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"You don’t think it’s worth the coin huh? You think you can handle fighting real men in the arena?" He taunted.

"When you find a real man let me know, until then I’d rather not." I said.

Sarah and the others started laughing.

"You think you’re funny? How about I kick your ass and show your women what a real man feels like?" He growled.

Sarah and the others let go of my arms and stepped back behind me.

"He fucked up." Sarah whispered to the others.

"You must have taken too many hits to the head if you think you can kick my ass." I replied.

"Then why don’t we settle this in the arena?" He laughed.

"Fuck the arena, I’ll settle it right here." I said through clenched teeth.

Just then I used all the agility points I had and closed the distance between us until my chest was a hair width with from his. He didn’t see me move until I had stopped. I grabbed him by the throat and lifted him off the ground with one hand and held him at eye level. His hands came up and grabbed my wrist trying to pry himself free.

"I estimate your level to be in the mid-twenties. Next time don’t try to provoke someone twenty levels higher than you." I said to him.

Just then the front of his pants were soaked by his own fear.

"Sir, I’m just doing my job. They pay me to stand here and talk shit to get people to sign up." He begged as he gasped for air.

I threw him onto the ground in front of my girls and pressed my foot between his shoulders.

"I don’t care. Now apologize to my women." I said.

"I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it." He begged with tears in his eyes.

"What made you think trying to provoke our husband was a good idea?" Sarah asked.

"Maybe they didn’t know he was an idiot when they hired him." Lucy said.

The man continued to beg and cry as I pressed my foot into his back.

Just then two more men ran out of the arena and approached us.

"What is going on here?" Asked one of the men.

"This man made remarks about bedding my wives." I said without looking up.

"Then settle it in the arena." Said the man standing next to me.

"No, I’ll settle it here. I won’t give this scum an audience." I said.

"You can’t kill him on the street, you will be arrested." He said.

I looked up at him.

"Is this how your arena operates? Pick a fight with random people on the street and take it to your arena to sell tickets?" I asked.

"Why not? It’s good business." He laughed.

I stared at him for a minute.

"So me and him. One on one?" I asked.

"Of course not. You start out bottom ranked and work your way up to his rank." The man answered.

"This piece of shit is ranked?" I laughed.

Sarah and the others began laughing at the men. By now a crowd had gathered around us listening to the conversation. I looked around at all the bystanders.

"No wonder the arena has to pick fights with random people, scum like this pile of shit beneath my foot are the best they can produce." I said.

The two men glared at me and clinched their fists.

"Watch your mouth, you don’t know who you’re messing with." One man said.

"Really? You do realize I can sense your levels right? And you can sense mine too. I’m stronger than all three of you. And I’m wearing my armor while you idiots are wearing street clothes." I laughed.

Just then I raised my foot and kicked the crying man in the ribs sending him sliding across the ground until he stopped at the feet of the other two men.

"Take your friend and fuck off." I said turning around and walking away with my women.

Back at the orphanage we sat on the sofa in the day room and I removed my helmet.

"Erik, you didn’t have to stand up for us like that." Nyx said.

"What do you mean? What happened?" Lilly asked.

The girls explained what happened to the sisters that had stayed behind.

"Oh no, Erik. You should be careful around the arena." Lilly said.

"Why?" I asked.

"Well, nobody can prove it but there are rumors that the arena is a front for a crime family." Lilly said.

"A crime family? Now that’s interesting." I said.

"If it’s true you need to be careful. I don’t know which family it is but if it is one of the more powerful ones then you need to be careful." She said.

I pulled Lilly to sit on my lap and put my hand on the back of her head and kissed her. She closed her eyes and melted into the kiss. After a full minute Nyx cleared her throat.
