Primordial Slime: I Devour The World

Malachiel’s expression remained inscrutable. Then the True Dragon looked at the bodies strewn across the battlefield. "You want them back." It was not a question. Tanaka stared at the slain monsters. His voice was quiet when he responded, "Yes." Malachiel lowered his head. "Then watch."

A heavy pressure suddenly emanated from the True Dragon. All surviving monsters froze where they stood. Malachiel opened his jaws, and a minuscule amount of his mana bled out. A minuscule amount,

but enough to cause the entire settlement to tremble. The mana seeped into the ground, flowing between the bodies, the broken buildings, the very bones of the earth itself, until it reached the souls.

Tanaka’s eyes widened as he saw the glowing specters hovering over the battlefield. Hundreds of souls, belonging to the monsters who had died in the battle, still lingered around the settlement. Malachiel’s voice rumbled. "Their souls still cling to the mortal realm." The True Dragon’s mana surrounded the lingering souls. "That is why I can return them." Tanaka’s gaze was transfixed on the ghostly figures. "Then..."

He spoke hopefully. Malachiel nodded. "Yes."

The souls began to descend, and the bodies they belonged to twitched and convulsed.

A fallen wolf gasped as it drew breath, a goblin shuddered and hacked, a kobold’s eyes fluttered open, and a Stoneshell Turtle slowly raised its head. The Moonhares were the first to rise, their sleepy cries echoing through the battlefield. Across Eldoris, the monsters who had perished in the battle reanimated and stretched, blinking their eyes open to a new day.

Tanaka stood in stunned silence, watching the reborn monsters walk and talk among the wounded. Then a familiar voice filtered through the mental link.

"Great One?"

Tanaka spun around. Raizen looked the younger wolf in the eye.

"Great One..."

Tanaka turned around. A young wolf stood before them, slowly rising to its feet.

Tanaka’s heart pounded against his ribs. "You..." Malachiel gave a lazy nod. "Yes."

Tanaka barely had time to turn around before a cacophony of voices overwhelmed his mind.

Great One!

I’m alive!

What happened?

Where are the humans?

Tanaka’s vision blurred as tears welled up in his eyes. For the first time since the massacre had begun, Tanaka allowed himself to laugh. "They’re alive."

The voices in his mind blended into one great cacophony of joy and relief. Some of the monsters, reborn or otherwise, simply broke down and cried, hugging each other tightly. The Moonhares gathered around Sylva, the goblins flocked around their families, the Kobolds stared at each other in disbelief, the wolves howled into the sky, the slimes bounced and squirmed happily, and the Ogres thumped their chests in approval.

The Dominion of Eldoris had been restored, reborn from the very ashes the humans had tried to bury it in. Malachiel let out a satisfied grunt.

"Now, there is one condition."

Tanaka turned back to face the True Dragon. "If there was not a soul left, I would not have been able to return it to the mortal realm. Also if death had occurred for a full day, not even I can bring them back. A soul destroying technique also can erase thm from the record, like my true dragon flames did to those soldiers." Tanaka’s expression darkened. A soul-destroying technique severed a soul from its body, destroying the spiritual tether that connected the two.

Malachiel turned his attention back to Tanaka. "Do you knowe about the Soul Record?"

Malachiel asked. Tanaka’s expression twisted in thought.

"It shows my abilities." He replied. Malachiel’s massive head lowered to regard Tanaka. "It is not a simple chart of your abilities."

Tanaka frowned.

Malachiel continued, "The Soul Record is a projection of potential." Tanaka’s eyes widened in surprise. "Potential?"

He asked.

"You can use it to determine your limits, your ceiling. How far you can go. What you can become." Malachiel’s then sighed. "Even I am unsure who created it." Tanaka narrowed his eyes. "You don’t know?"

The True Dragon let out a scoff. "If something is beyond my knowledge, it does not mean I have to pretend I understand it."

Tanaka almost laughed. Malachiel looked up into the sky. "Whatever force created the Soul Record understood the nature of souls better than even an ancient dragon." Tanaka said nothing as Malachiel’s grin widened. "Now." Malachiel’s wings unfurled, sending a shockwave rippling across the Dominion.

A column of crimson mana shot from the heavens and hovered above the battlefield, blessing the gathered monsters. Tanaka’s body tensed as Malachiel’s mana washed over him, his magic core throbbing as it restructured itself. His entire body felt heavier, denser, stronger, and his mana roared through his veins. Then a new voice echoed through Tanaka’s mind.

[ Soul record update ]

Tanaka’s eyes widened.

[ Evolution confirmed. ]

[ Rank exceeded limit. ]

[ Evolution started. ]

Tanaka’s body expanded, the blue slime of his body deepening into a richer hue, his body twisting and contorting as abyssal energy surrounded him, his core restructuring itself, his very soul screaming in exhilaration.

Tanaka looked down at his hands, feeling the power surging through his veins. Malachiel let out a satisfied hum.

"Interesting. Now let us see what it has done to your people."

Tanaka watched as the power of evolution coursed through his friends and allies. Rogan’s body was wreathed in mana, his muscles tightening as the power surged through him.

Rogan opened his eyes, looking at his hands. A slow smile crawled across his face as he flexed his fingers.

"Power...

Raveana laughed as the power surged through her veins, her body erupting with energy.

Raveana looked down at her hands before grinning. "Now this is what I’m talking about."

Raishin’s body crackled with electricity as another evolution took place.

Ryuken’s aura pulsed with draconic power.

The Kijin stood side by side, their power levels skyrocketing. Relia’s body was surrounded by a warm glow, her aura pulsing with life energy.

Relia slowly opened her eyes and the next thing she saw was Sora bouncing towards her.

"Relia!"

Relia’s world slowed as she looked down at the wriggling slime in her hands.

"Hello Sora."

Tanaka’s heart clenched.

Relia was alive.

She was right here.

Malachiel’s power continued to surge through the battlefield, the effect it was having still rippling outward. Eldrin’s body was glowing, the goblin elder looked down at his hands in astonishment.

Eldrin let out a shout of laughter.

"Great One..."

Drakar roared as his body expanded, the Kobold leader’s scales hardening.

Drakar sneered, "Now we can build something even greater."

Torga’s massive body was transforming, the armor of the Ironcarapace Turtle thickening and hardening.

His shell grew denser and the protective aura around it pushed outwards, cocooning the surrounding monsters in a dome of defense.

Sylva’s body was glowing brighter, the Moonhare leader looking down at her paws in awe.

Zephyr expanded his wings, his vision already expanding.

The Mana Bird hovered above the battlefield, his sight taking in everything across the Dominion.

Raxolf stood silently, the Star Wolf Lord’s body surrounded by silver and blue light.

The aura of the Star Wolves spread outwards, every single one of them feeling stronger.

Then Raizen, the Star Wolf King, bowed his head.

His body was engulfed in starlight.

Raizen opened his eyes, the aura around him shifting.

Tanaka stared in awe.

Then Razer, the unconscious Orc Lord, groaned as his body began to evolve.

The red aura around the Orc Lord intensified and his muscles expanded, his injuries mending themselves.

[ War eater evolved to War Dominion. ]

Razer’s eyes snapped open, taking in the scene before him. Malachiel looked him over. "Another Monster Lord." Razer rose to his feet, his gaze locking onto Tanaka. For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Razer grinned, "So the slime survived." Tanaka smiled, "Looks like you did too." A heavy silence stretched between them before the world shook.

[ WARNING. ]

Every monster stiffened as the Voice of the World echoed throughout the skies.

[ ANOMALY DETECTED. ]

Tanaka looked up into the heavens, dread twisting in his stomach.

[ A TRUE DRAGON HAS MANIFESTED. ]

[ A RANK MONSTER HAS TRANSCENDED ITS PREVIOUS EVOLUTION LIMITATION. ]

[ MULTIPLE MONSTER LORD-CLASS ENTITIES HAVE EMERGED SIMULTANEOUSLY. ]

[ AN ABNORMAL CONCENTRATION OF HIGH-LEVEL MANA HAS BEEN DETECTED WITHIN RECOGNIZED MONSTER NATION, ELDORIS DOMINION. ]

Malachiel’s eyes narrowed, "The Voice of the World... still functioning after ten thousand years." He let out a scoff, "I had almost forgotten about it." Tanaka looked the True Dragon over, his expression unreadable.

The dragon’s eyes gleamed with something unreadable.

"But this," Malachiel’s gaze swept over the battlefield, taking in the thousands of evolved monsters that now called Eldoris their home, "is truly impressive. A nation of evolved monsters. Tanaka is already on par with a Monster King," Malachiel chuckled, "and these leaders, they are equal to Monster Lords."

The True Dragon let out a laugh, "Hahaha! Finally, this world might actually be interesting to me."

The skies rumbled as the forces of monsters from all corners of the world began to gather outside the Eldoris borders.

Orcs, Goblins, Beast Races, Wandering monsters, and even some that had previously avoided the Eldoris Dominion came to investigate the disturbance. The aura of Malachiel’s power had reached out across the land, an invitation extended to all who would listen.

Tanaka looked out over the growing crowd of monsters, his heart swelling with emotion. Then he turned back to his people, back to his friends, and back to Malachiel.

The Voice of the World.

The day had truly changed.

Tanaka slowly looked down at his hands.

He was no longer a B Rank Arch Devour Slime, but an A Rank Abyss Devourer Slime.

His Devourer had evolved and so had his path, his people, his Dominion. Tanaka stared out at the endless stream of monsters approaching the Eldoris borders.

Then he exhaled a long, heavy sigh.

"Welp. This is unexpected."

Malachiel laughed, "But now..."

Tanaka looked back at his people, then smiled.

"We’re truly stronger now."
