As Lilith woke up, he found himself inside a small room... Looking around, he saw many other beds around him, all filled with dudes, the majority older dudes that should have had families by now, which made him slightly uncomfortable.
’A Seeker Beast book, at least that damn guy didn’t choose anything impossible; the only bad part is that the description was so vague and short. Something about a future king being chosen from someone born with nothing other than just the will to fight for his home.’
... Lilith stared a bit longer, especially at one of the dudes around him. It looked to be a boy, a bit older than him, probably someone who had already reached adulthood, but recently, he was covered in scars.
’I see, then this shouldn’t be that hard. I could kill him, and that would probably be enough; after all, this is probably the protagonist... the only problem is that Cain isn’t here, the Codex won’t take us out just because I killed the protagonist early, and I want to get out.’
Sighing, he got to his feet, walking out of the room; after all, he had to find the Fallen.
The living room was... empty. Though he had known instantly that this house wasn’t anything grand, the amount of spider webs, the hardly standing walls and roof, and more importantly, sharing the bedroom- it all led him to think that they had to be in some sort of poor settlement, which only proved to him even more that the boy was the protagonist.
’If I was to punch one of the walls with a fully charged attack, I wouldn’t doubt that the whole place would fall down.’ He said, as he put his finger on the wall to check just how much dust there was, and the answer was... a lot.
Getting out of the house, the outside didn’t look any better; the floor was dirt and mud, and there was no street. The other houses looked completely the same as the others, which was to be expected in such a rubbish place. It reminded him of the Withered, but he would go so far as to say that it was far worse than the Withered. The only place where it was better, as ironic as it was, was the people.
There were many humans around who, when passing each other, waved. Lilith chuckled. ’In that graveyard, you get stabbed for that.’
Walking around the place, he saw many small shops, but one thing he noticed was that almost all the people who worked at these shops seemed to be onto something, either alcohol or something else... ’But they are definitely not fully here.’ There were also many animal pens just out in the open.
He even saw someone just killing a pig in broad daylight. It was a bit strange to see, but at the same time, any Seeker, maybe even the majority of Readers, knew to kill and cook the meat of wild animals.
He had also killed many pigs, just wild ones.
This poor district continued for a while; if he had to say, this was some sort of outskirt, since in the distance he saw an actual village that didn’t look worse than a brand new Anchor.
But, for the moment, he was more interested in the forest that lay near their home, at the other end, where civilization ended. You could hardly see anything inside it, no matter how much you stared.
’Makes me wonder if he is there... I doubt he was also teleported as someone from this district, so he is either in the other cooler and richer part of the village, or in the forest.’
He wanted to go in, but before that, he had to take care of something. He sighed. "How long are you going to follow me exactly?" Lilith joked as he turned to see the boy he had stared at before, the person he named the protagonist.
The boy smiled. "I just wanted to see what you were doing leaving the house all alone. I mean, you don’t usually do it. You can tell me if something is wrong, were childhood friends after all." Then he posed, pointing towards himself. "Plus, I have to learn how to handle people’s emotions for when I become the King, so it would also help me."
’Childhood friends, I see... good to know." Lilith chuckled. "No, nothing is wrong, just wanted to see what was inside the forest, you know? I mean, it’s near us; what if something dangerous... or maybe someone dangerous was inside it, you know?"
The original protagonist walked to his side, looking in the distance, lifting a hand in front of himself, and clenching his fist. "If there is..." He turned towards him. "Then we will just have to protect everyone; plus, it would help us get some votes and make people just want us to be King. And once one of us gets there, both of us will finally get out of this trash place."
Lilith tilted his head, teasing the boy. "Are you saying you want the village to be attacked? Wow, what a bad King you are."
The boy quickly staggered back, making a big X with his hands. "That’s not what I mean!"
He sighed, putting his hands in his pockets, pockets that looked to have been carved out by a knife instead of being there when they had been made. Which made Lilith chuckle for no reason at all.
"I just... want to prove to our parents that we can become great... and I want to make a chance, to help the people inside this district live a better life."
The smile returned to his face, as conviction took over. "And I know I will... no, rather, we will. We will do it together!"
Lilith stared at his conviction, finding it funny, since, if he was to try and gain a high rank, he would have done the exact opposite, and rather, would have tried to keep him from getting any votes.
And yet here he was, saying they were going to do it together...
...
’Though... if I did help him, while just changing enough to get us out. I could make it so Cain doesn’t get that much sync, since I don’t know how much he needs until Enlightenment...’
