Prince of The Abyss

Chapter 454: Devil of the Past

Cain smiled as the man dashed forward, thrusting their blades inside him, all hitting different spots; his throat, lungs, and once again, his heart got stabbed. Blue flowed out of his mouth, getting through the gaps of his teeth, as he continued to grin.

"Not quite there. Just missed them." He said before slashing one of them with his claws, making him back away in pain, as he slowly died from his Core being destroyed. Some turned to see their friend die, but not all; some were set on killing him, already trying to draw their blades and try to stab him again.

But before they could, Cain crushed their heads with his bare hands.

...

It was never a fair fight, even with there being seven; that amount of Readers could never kill a Seeker. The only time he could think of this happening was if the Readers were either really strong for their class and the Seeker was not on the stronger side, or if the Readers had tried and gotten the exact things to counter the Seeker.

And in this scenario, the Seeker isn’t someone who just paid to become a Seeker and had a useless Affinity, since he was confident that a strong Reader alone could beat them.

But his Affinity was in no way weak.

He had the potential to be one of the strongest Seekers at the moment. If he said he was, there would be people who wouldn’t argue.

As ironic as it was, the main reason why he was this strong was his bane. Theoretically, it was in no way a good Bane; it was actually quite unfortunate for the majority, close to all. After all, it reversed everything the Affinity did.

So the usual Affinity, for example, the one that makes the user able to see hidden things, could make him see nothing at all.

He had just gotten lucky with what his Affinity was.

Originally, it made it so that whenever he made his opponent bleed, or just hurt them in general, he got stronger. But at the same time, it made him weaker to mental attacks. He thought about it, and he came up with the theory that the Codex had wanted to keep him from going mad, making his mind weaker so he would question his morality.

Since it wasn’t the only time it tried to restrict him, his thresholds just didn’t work for the same reason, so he wouldn’t lose himself. The Fallen was a strong God, and had always been, and more importantly, from what he heard Avius and Silus talk when he was chained, he also had a tendency of giving too much power to its Vessels, most losing themselves to it.

That was what his Affinity tried to prevent.

But due to his Bane.

Instead, it made it so that whenever he got hurt, he got stronger, while at the same time, his mind was not affected at all by mental attacks; he was immune to them. It didn’t mean his mental health couldn’t worsen, just not due to a Mind attack.

Yet while the thing the original had put in to restrict him wasn’t there anymore, there was another; he had to let himself get hurt. It wasn’t that he could just hurt more and more people, make them bleed and get stronger; he had to hurt himself, so he hadn’t fallen into it.

Quite the opposite... he felt like his mental health was perfectly fine.

He had two abilities: his claws, which inflicted Core damage, the Fallen being the first to invent this type of attack, but the world had long gotten used to them, creating armor and weapons with it.

But at first, it was very powerful, just like Mind attacks had been when they first came out, created by Fate.

But this was normal; if another type of attack were to be invented today, it would be extremely powerful, and the person who owned it would be a weapon until Armor against it is created, or ways to help against it come out.

His manifestation strengthened his Affinity, which made it so he was even stronger when hurt. And the other ability is the one he talked about: the three hearts, regeneration body. It was a passive ability.

Living in the Withered most of his life had made him master some things, like being able to see things and connect dots, alongside being able to recognize things as attacks he knew well more easily.

Iron Fist was just a well-known skill many had; it came from just the many times he had fought with his fists, to the point his punches were really strong, and also, his patterns and style of fighting were chaotic, hence the only skill he personally created, Devil of Unpredictability.

Relics were where he lacked; only one, his blade, he never needed armor; it made him weaker, even if it would still be an idea to get some, since if he was to fight a stronger opponent, he could get killed in one shot, just like he almost had when he fought the Prince one-on-one.

He only lived because he wanted him to.

...

But what he didn’t lack was his Class and Rank... he had challenged many strong books, and in all of them, he went rogue, killing almost everything. One time, he had even gotten the Codex to confirm that he was the only living being outside of animals. He had killed anything that the system could award him sync from.

...

And he was going to ascend in both class and Rank by the end of this book.
