Prince of The Abyss

Chapter 460: The Favourite

Looking at the table, many would be surprised, and he was sure many Celestial families were frustrated; after all, most of the Celestial children had fallen. The only ones that had gotten through had been the ones that had another Celestial as their opponent.

In all the battles where they had fought a Knight, they lost.

The thing was that even the stronger of them lost, which was why this was such a shock, at least to those who don’t understand fighting. Most of them were strong because of their Affinities and abilities.

Affinities’ strength runs through family; you won’t ever get the exact same ability, maybe not similar, but if your parents and your ancestors had powerful Affinities, you are likely to have one yourself.

But in a battle without them, they were, of course, going to lose to the weaker, more experienced people. It was actually a really fair tournament, surprisingly.

He would have also had a powerful Affinity if he hadn’t been chosen by the Abyss. His Sister was strong; his mother had been decent, not really that big of an Affinity when it came to fighting. But his father was a Breaker; there was no doubt in his mind that he would have been powerful.

Really, he didn’t know what to say of the Abyss as an Affinity. It was strange; it really was.

He hadn’t lied to Avius when he had said that it was a Utility Affinity, since it was. It made it harder for him to be stopped in shadows... or at least that’s all he knows about it.

[Abyss] - Bestowed the power of a great being, you dwell in the shadows to be forgotten. Most of the world has rejected you, but many others welcome you with open arms as one of them.

’The description is vague, so I don’t know if that’s all there is to it. After all, I only figured the first part, which talked about me dwelling in the shadows. But after that, I don’t know; I’ve just been thinking that it’s the same thing, but I’m not sure...’

A part of him thought that his Affinity had to somehow be connected to souls; after all, the Abyss was able to create Soul Sense and Voidpiercer, which were connected to the Abyss and also had soul abilities.

There was also the fact that no one had ever gotten Soul Sense outside him, or at least that he knew of. Which at the same time, he knew that it was the Abyss’s ability, and he hadn’t shared it with anyone. But at the same time, the soul isn’t unknown. The core is made from the Affinity and the user’s soul.

Core attacks exist; you can use your Affinity, so no one had thought that there might also be something with the Soul. Had Avius really never thought about it? He felt as if it was a big joke that in all this time the strongest people never tried to do anything with the Soul, and he, in a few months, did.

’Though at the same time, I also knew about the soul, and never thought about it, only when I needed something for Denial, and because of Shadow Speech was I able to figure something out.’

And yet again, Shadows had souls; they talked through souls, and they were also created by the Abyss.

...

For him, his own Affinity was really a mystery; he didn’t know its full strength, after all, so far, it hadn’t made him that powerful. If he hadn’t taken the path that he did, if he hadn’t endured what he went through, and if he hadn’t had the luck he had, he didn’t think he would be this powerful.

Really, a big part of him questioned himself about what would have happened if he never found Voidpiercer, since it really was a big part of why he was here today.

Without it, he would have never been able to kill the people in Frozen Crown, so he wouldn’t have become an Echo rank; he would have never gotten skilled with the blade, since he wouldn’t have had one.

And more importantly, he maybe would have never gotten out, and if he did, he would have been a low rank most likely, and would not have gotten the earring that carried him with the whole Rebellion, so that wouldn’t have happened.

Beyond that point, he really would not know what he would have done.

Most people, with his Affinity, would become scouts, assassins maybe, spies...

But was this really the power of the most feared God? His manifestation was strong; he wasn’t going to say it wasn’t, but still.

Even Sena’s Affinity on paper is powerful; actually, maybe at the moment it isn’t that powerful, but in the future she really will be a monster, able to control a whole army to fight under her. While at the same time manipulating fate in her favour.

If he didn’t do anything, she would probably also become stronger than him.

...

"Whatever."

He said, looking back at the bracket, slightly unhinged.

When it came to his next fight, he had gotten... unlucky to say the least; after all, he was probably the only person he really didn’t wish to fight, at least this early. If it had been later in the tournament he would have been fine with it. But in the second fight?... Definitely not.

"The favourite to win it huh..."

...

His next Opponent was Orion.

’Probably going to have to be more careful, he knows more about me than the majority of people I know inside the Blue Rose, so if there is someone who knows to fight me, outside Lilith and Sena, it’s him.’

The worst part about it, was that he knew how skilled he was with the blade; many times when he was with him, he had felt inferior when it came to pure skill. But he could never ask him to teach him because of how different their styles were.

’At least the people won’t be bored when he beats me. If he does.’

He chuckled, preparing to enter the arena.
