Chapter 349: Chapter 269: Toying with the Sword Sect
Song Mingyue wasn’t particularly worried, but her expression was nonetheless grim. She was concerned about something else entirely. Although Ling Xiao had appeared indifferent after Qin Feng showed up, she knew deep down that if she couldn’t explain this matter clearly, a rift would inevitably form between them, even if they stayed together. No one would want that to happen.
Originally, Song Mingyue’s mother had told her to find an opportunity to discuss this with Ling Xiao to avoid future complications. But how could Song Mingyue have ever imagined their relationship would advance so rapidly? It was a complete and utter surprise. Now that she had become Ling Xiao’s woman, she found herself at a loss for how to bring it up. Besides, she hadn’t really taken the matter to heart before, but as fate would have it, they just had to run into that Qin Feng!
Song Mingyue had planned to use the upcoming exchange conference at the Qin estate as an opportunity to personally seek out the Qin Family’s Patriarch, Qin Feng’s father, Qin Zhaoran. She would deliver a handwritten letter from her own father to break off the engagement. No matter what, she and Qin Feng could never be together. ’There are many reasons for this,’ she thought. ’I’m sure that once Qin Zhaoran reads Father’s letter, he won’t agree to this marriage either!’
’I never expected so many complications to arise. It looks like I need to find a chance to tell Ling Xiao about this soon, to prevent any lingering resentment.’ As Song Mingyue thought this, her gaze unfocused and her mind began to wander. Suddenly, a low gasp from the crowd snapped her back to attention. The man from the Zhao Family was beet-red, having retreated more than a dozen steps, and was now staring at Ling Xiao in utter shock.
’Is it over already?’ Although Song Mingyue had great confidence in Ling Xiao, her opponent was a Sword Sect expert. ’If he was defeated by my husband in just a few moves, wouldn’t that be a little too astounding?’
Zhao Jingzhi’s face was a mask of fury. An astonishing aura erupted from his body as he glared menacingly at Ling Xiao and snarled, "You forced my hand!" With that, he leaped into the air. The Hundred-refined Steel Sword in his hand suddenly shot out a blade of Sword Qi over a meter long. The Sword Qi was ethereal; though it hadn’t condensed into a solid form, it was clearly visible to the naked eye!
Song Mingyue had sharp eyes and immediately noticed blood dripping from the Zhao family man’s right wrist. DRIP. DRIP. She was astonished. ’Could the innate Sword Qi from Ling Xiao’s Enchanted Sword have actually wounded a Sword Sect expert?’
Song Mingyue wasn’t the only one who was stunned. Even Qin Feng, who had been watching the conflict from the sidelines, now wore an incredibly grave expression. Qin Peng and the others beside him, however, hadn’t seen clearly. Blinking his triangular eyes, Qin Peng asked doubtfully, "Why does it look like Patriarch Zhao took a small hit? What’s that kid’s deal? He’s slippery! How could he actually make a Sword Sect expert lose out?"
Another member of the Qin Family whispered, "I didn’t see clearly either, but it looks like Patriarch Zhao is furious! Heh, the Zhao Family was already a joke, and they actually dreamed of being compared to our Qin Family. This time, they’re going to be utterly humiliated!"
"Hey, kid, whose side are you on? I, for one, hope Patriarch Zhao slices that brat in two with a single strike!" Qin Peng knew the young master, Qin Feng, had his eye on the woman with that kid, so he said this deliberately to suck up to him.
But Qin Feng suddenly whirled around and shot them a harsh glare. "How many chances do you get to witness a real battle between Sword Sect-level experts? And you’re still here making a racket!" Without another word, he turned back around, his eyes glued to the scene.
Qin Peng and the other Qin Family members exchanged a glance, then subtly pursed their lips and rolled their eyes. They hadn’t seen what happened clearly anyway, and they didn’t particularly care to. They all thought the same thing: ’No matter how outstanding that kid is, you’re still the Direct Descendant Young Master, Qin Feng...’
Ling Xiao, in stark contrast to Zhao Jingzhi, still showed no signs of erupting with an aura. He had now completely mastered the Nine Swords of Dugu. His refusal to use Sword Qi wasn’t out of contempt for Zhao Jingzhi, but rather... it was simply unnecessary!
Zhao Jingzhi’s spiritual pressure had already clashed with Ling Xiao’s once. Not only had he failed to gain the slightest advantage, but he had even been wounded—his wrist sliced open by that Sword Qi right after Ling Xiao had spoken. The wound wasn’t large and it didn’t bleed much, but this was a monstrous humiliation! It felt even worse than being killed with a single blow!
For an expert at the Sword Sect realm, their sword techniques, Cultivation Techniques, and power had all reached a new plane. Many Martial Artists spent their entire lives stuck at the level of Great Sword Master or Mad Sword Master, unable to even fully unblock their meridians. Therefore, to say nothing of the Sword Sect, in the eyes of most, even Demon Swordsmen and Demon Sword Masters were considered peak experts!
Battles between Sword Sect experts were typically earth-shattering affairs, with opponents trading devastating attacks in mid-air. A fight like this—on a boat, relying on pure sword technique and limited Sword Qi, all while having to be careful not to destroy the vessel—was a true test for both combatants.
Destruction was easy, but controlling one’s power to prevent it... that was the hard part.
In the blink of an eye, Zhao Jingzhi had launched over a thousand strikes, while Ling Xiao appeared to be purely on the defensive. Some of the weaker members of the audience were even wondering, ’Ling Xiao’s defense looks so desperate, why doesn’t the Zhao family man just unleash a decisive blow and sweep him off the boat?’
’Even if he can’t seriously wound him, shouldn’t he at least be able to teach him a lesson? The longer this drags on, the worse it looks for the Zhao man. A Sword Sect expert fighting a mere teenager, and you’ve already thrown over a thousand strikes to no effect. Those in the know might realize you’re trying to put him in his place, but anyone else would think you’re just going easy on your own disciple...’
