Chapter 429: Chapter 305: Kill_4
By now, the group of Beastmen below had long since retreated several kilometers, watching from afar as flashes of light glittered in the sky. Streaks of Sword Qi slashed down toward the ground, completely annihilating the forest within a thousand-meter radius. Deep fissures spiderwebbed across the earth, all a result of the seemingly colorful yet effortless exchanges between the two fighters in the air.
Two nearly identical women stood together. The sharp and clever Ye Zi understood the moment she saw the High Priest why Ling Xiao had brought her here. Her heart was in turmoil, but out of concern for Ling Xiao, the mother and daughter pair exchanged no words. They simply shared a look, each finding what they longed for in the other’s eyes, and began to watch the battle from a distance.
As a Cultivator, Ye Zi was keenly aware that her mother’s Spiritual Power was immense, yet the energy fluctuations from her body were nearly nonexistent. After watching the Sword Qi unleashed by the two combatants continuously decimate the forest on the ground, Ye Zi kept pulling her mother backward until they had retreated several more kilometers. It was only when they noticed that Ling Xiao was also intentionally drawing the fight further away that the two of them finally stopped.
Ye Zi’s perception was naturally no match for the High Priest’s, but her trust in Ling Xiao was nearly absolute. So, as she watched the two combatants fight farther and farther away, she sensed that Ling Xiao was controlling the pace of the battle, which eased her anxiety.
The High Priest’s perception was, of course, exceptionally keen. She had seen long ago that the Tier Four Sword Emperor from the Zhe Family was no match for Ling Xiao. She let out a long sigh of relief and said softly, "I never imagined... that boy could improve so much in just over a year! He’s a true genius!"
A sweet feeling filled Ye Zi’s heart upon hearing her mother praise Ling Xiao. At that moment, however, she suddenly took a small step away from her mother, the look in her long, captivating eyes turning incredibly complex. They held a yearning for kinship, the thrill of finally meeting her mother, and a hint of resentment.
The High Priest was a woman herself; how could she fail to understand what was going through her daughter’s mind? She glanced up at the battle in the sky, sighed softly, and said, "Your name is Ye Wen Ni? That’s a lovely name. I... I like it very much. Your father’s surname was also Ye."
"I just want to know why you abandoned me," Ye Zi said quietly, the rims of her eyes slightly red. Yet she stubbornly refused to let a single tear fall. This guarded expression made the High Priest’s heart ache even more.
"My daughter, I’m so sorry!" The High Priest’s tears, however, began to stream down her face uncontrollably.
Seeing her mother weep, Ye Zi couldn’t hold back her own tears. But she still took a few steps back and said stubbornly, "Don’t think you can fool me. Did Ling Xiao already know about this and just not tell me? Were you two in this together, deceiving me? Why?"
"Don’t blame him. I’m the one who told him not to tell you. For Ling Xiao to bring you here today, he must have gained great confidence in his own strength. Look at him—even two Sword Emperor Powerhouses are not his match. Now, there are some things I can finally tell you."
While keeping an eye on the battle in the sky, the High Priest explained the old feuds in a few brief sentences. Ye Zi listened, utterly dumbfounded. She had probably never imagined that she came from such an illustrious background.
’Hidden clan’... To the Ye Zi of the past, those two words were like the very air she breathed—ever-present, yet invisible and intangible.
After hearing everything, any resentment Ye Zi had once harbored toward her parents was overwhelmed by the sheer shock of the truth. She threw herself into the High Priest’s arms and began to wail.
The surrounding Beastmen stared in astonishment at the two women. For a moment, they were utterly bewildered. ’How can there be two High Priests?’
In the sky, Ling Xiao continuously shifted between Sword Techniques. Gradually, the Zhe Family’s Tier Four Sword Emperor realized his opponent was using him for practice. New grievances and old hatreds mingled within him, and his animosity toward Ling Xiao reached a boiling point.
A Martial Artist’s strength often grows when propelled by a powerful motivation. While anger can have a tremendous impact on one’s state of mind, it can also, at times, trigger a massive surge in power.
Just like that, the Zhe Family’s Tier Four Sword Emperor unleashed the full potential of a master at his level. This, combined with the fact that Ling Xiao was not yet proficient in many of the techniques from his Star Sword Formulas, meant that for a moment, he was actually being forced back repeatedly by his opponent.
Enormous booms, like rolling thunder, echoed through the sky.
Fueled by his immense hatred, the Zhe Family’s Tier Four Sword Emperor’s aura surged. His strikes became as fast as lightning, and he actually began to suppress Ling Xiao!
Having just weathered a storm of sorrow and joy, both Ye Zi and her mother were still emotionally fragile. When she suddenly saw Ling Xiao being forced back again and again, Ye Zi grew frantic. Though still shy about being overly familiar with her mother, the sight of Ling Xiao in apparent danger made her grab the High Priest’s hand. "Mom," she stammered, "is... is he going to be okay?"
The High Priest was also confused as she watched. ’That giant cauldron and those precious swords Ling Xiao used to kill the other Zhe Family Sword Emperor... why hasn’t he recalled them?’ she wondered. ’And the techniques he’s using now, while profound, are obviously unpracticed.’
’Could it be... he’s using him for practice?’
The High Priest’s eyes suddenly lit up. She looked at Ling Xiao in the sky and thought, ’What an audacious young man! He actually dares to use a Tier Four Sword Emperor for practice! There’s likely not another person his age in the entire world with that kind of nerve! Of course, there’s probably no one else with his level of strength at that age, either!’
