[MEREEN; FIGHTING PIT]
"Sitting through the great games will be bad enough."
"Do you think Jorah Mormont would be put in right away?" Daenerys whispered.
"Perhaps. I can't really tell since I have little idea about how people are selected for these things" Lyanna muttered. "Are you anxious to see whether he's well or not? If so, then I don't think he would be harmed. He was bought to fight in these pits. I'd worry about the imp, but I don't much care for him."
"It's not that... I don't know how future me would react to seeing the man she banished."
"She may yet be happy" Lyanna murmured. "With Ser Barristan's death, she'd need someone close to her to guide and advise her. Might even forgive his offence."
Daenerys was hoping for that. It was better than the alternative....
"For generations, in the days leading up to the great games, it has been customary for our ruler to make the rounds to the lower pits to pay the fighters there the honour of her presence."
[The fighters enter the pit. The slave owner sees Daenerys and runs in front of her and Hizdahr. The owner gets all his gladiators to face Dany, whispering instructions to them.]
"We fight and die for your glory, O glorious queen."
"What glory is there in such a death?" Daenerys frowned.
"For slaves like them, there isn't much in the way of recognition. They serve their masters, unnamed and disrespected, before fading to nothing. But as a fighter, they gain a name, they gain love and respect. And when they die, they are remembered. There is nothing more to it than that" Oberyn explained.
"But that's-"
"Pathetic? Their lives are pathetic"
"I didn't say that" the Targaryen princess muttered.
"You didn't have to" Oberyn smirked.
[FIGHTING PIT; WAITING AREA]
[JORAH hears "O glorious queen" and runs to the edge of the pit. He sees DAENERYS through the grated entrance to the ring.]
"Well he's there at least" Lyanna whispered to Daenerys, who looked miserable from the conversation with Oberyn.
[One bald gladiator dominates the pit. He slits one fighter's throat and slices another fighter's leg as he runs away. JORAH straps a helmet on. He rushes to the pit. His owner tries to stop him but he knocks him out with the butt of his sword.]
"He's eager to be at your side again" Jon noted.
"He said he believed in me" Daenerys shrugged. It felt good, to be believed in.
[JORAH takes out the bald man as he was smashing a man's head in with a rock. DAENERYS takes notice of the fighter but can't see his face. The other gladiators that weren't chosen to fight follow JORAH'S lead and enter the ring. TYRION tries but is chained up. He starts sawing at his chain.]
"Never have I found things easy" Tyrion sighed.
Jaime chuckled.
[JORAH melees a fighter with a shield, then knocks another out with his own helmet. A giant man sees TYRION sawing at his chains. He raises a giant sword above the imp's head, but comes down on the chain, freeing TYRION.]
"Guess you made a new friend" Jaime smirked.
"I have a magnetic personality" Tyrion grinned.
[DAENERYS is watching intently now. JORAH is the last man standing. He walks up to DAENERYS and HIZDAHR and removes his helmet. She stares at him for a moment.]
"Get him out of my sight."
"No forgiveness then" Daenerys sighed. At least the order wasn't for him to be killed.
"Khaleesi, please, I just need a moment of your time. I brought you a gift."
[TYRION enters the pit.]
"I am the gift. It's a pleasure to meet you, Your Grace. My name is Tyrion Lannister."
"The greatest gift of them all" Tyrion boasted.
"I guess great things do come in small packages," Shireen said.
Her uncles and the Kingslayer snorted.
Her father's lips twitched at that.
[KING'S LANDING; BLACK CELL]
[CERSEI enters MARGAERY'S cell.]
"Great" the girl muttered. No doubt the woman was there to gloat...
"This is horrible. Unacceptable. Are they feeding you enough at least? I brought you this. Venison. It's quite good. I had it myself for supper only last night."
The young Tyrell scowled.
"We did everything we could from the moment they took your brother. Tommen even went to the sept himself to confront the high sparrow, but I fear The Faith has left reason behind. We are making every effort on your behalf. I swear to you by all the seven gods."
"Lies come easily to you. Everyone knows that. But innocence, decency, concern? You're not very good at those, I'm afraid. Perhaps that's why your son was so eager to cast you aside for me."
"You're upset. You're not thinking clearly. I'll visit again when you've had a chance to calm down."
"Her mask almost snapped" Catelyn noted.
"Lady Margaery hit the nail on the coffin, right where she knew it would hurt Cersei most" Ned muttered.
"I don't want to see you again."
"I do hope you change your mind about that. I've been told men often go mad in the Black Cells below the Red Keep, but I suppose your isolation will end once your trial begins."
"Leave."
"Yes, I'm afraid I must. My son needs me now more than ever."
"What he needs to be away from you" Tyrion almost hissed out angrily. Tommen was a good boy, too good to be used as a pawn by his deranged mother.
Tommen meanwhile frowned. He needed her because she made problems for him...
[CERSEI walks out smiling. She is taken to HIGH SEPTON'S room by a Sparrow.]
[The HIGH SPARROW thanks the SPARROW before dismissing him. He turns to CERSEI]
"You saw her?"
"Yes."
"And?"
"Her accommodations seem sufficient. What happens to her now?"
"Well, she and her brother are both being held under fair suspicion. A trial will be held for each of them to determine if they are guilty of any acts that might constitute a violation of the tenets of the faith."
"Who will stand judge?"
"Seven septons. As it was in all trials before the Targaryens."
"A trial by seven then? But not the violent kind" Catelyn murmured. She'd read about them when she was young.
"Will you be one of them?"
"I will"
"If one or both of them were to confess before the trial..."
"Then they will be at The Mother's mercy."
"What does The Mother's mercy entail?"
"Trying to find some way to tamper probably" Margaery scowled.
"It depends on the situation. The acts themselves, the degree of contrition."
"Thank you High Septon for bringing them whatever justice they deserve in the eyes of the Seven."
Multiple people snorted.
"Did you know this chapel is one of the oldest structures in King's Landing?"
"I think I may have heard at one point."
"Baelor built his sept around it. But men worshipped here long before him."
"Was it?" Shireen asked Jon Arryn, who was the hand of the King and the oldest male in the hall.
"The three hills were the property of many Kings before the Targaryens. Many castles were raised and torn down in those times. The only thing that lived through it all was the Chapel" Jon Arryn explained.
Shireen nodded eagerly along those words.
