Chapter 3575: Medusa (41)Chapter 3575: Medusa (41)
Hera was now the ruler of the gods. Zeus had been utterly played by her, and since he definitely could not swallow this insult, it had led to Hera’s arrival here.
Hera was a woman who could even abandon her own son. A human woman like Ning Shu was nothing to her.
Still, Hera’s actions paled in comparison to certain male gods who devoured their lovers and children at the drop of a hat.
Take Zeus’s grandfather, for example. He was wary of his wife and wanted her to bear many children, yet he also feared that having too many would threaten his own position. Whenever she got pregnant, he forced her to hold it in and forbade her from giving birth.
The things they did were simply jaw-dropping.
Since Zeus wanted a human girl, granting his wish was a completely inconsequential matter.
Hera was even using this method to humiliate Zeus.
Since you are so lustful by nature, I will give you a woman, but you will spend the rest of your life locked up in Tartarus, a place even deeper than hell.
Even the immortal gods feared this vast, dark realm. It was the location of the palace of Nyx and was enveloped in black clouds.
Zeus’s enemies were imprisoned here behind a bronze wall. The wall’s entrance was locked by a massive bronze door, a masterpiece forged by Hephaestus, the god of fire.
Now Zeus was locked up down there. Being locked up with the Titans and all his other enemies was simply awesome!
Hera’s chariot flew incredibly fast. Ning Shu wore a look of utter amazement, along with a yearning for a beautiful life.
Hera just curled the corners of her lips. It was a realm deeper than hell and a place that terrified even the gods. If a human woman went to that bottomless abyss, she would only find endless horror.
Ning Shu rested her chin in her hand and asked Hera, “The king of the gods must mention me a lot, right?”
Hera glanced at Ning Shu. “Yes, he mentions you frequently. He says you killed Athena and Poseidon, and that you possess the power to destroy gods.”
Ning Shu burst into laughter when she heard this. “Zeus has always said things like that. Anyway, whatever he says goes.”
Hera narrowed her eyes. “Do you truly possess the power to destroy gods?
“I have lived with my younger brother for a very long time. I can still tell whether he is telling the truth or a lie.”
Ning Shu nodded. “Actually, I do have a little bit of power. This power was actually bestowed upon me by Zeus. The god of the sea had taken a fancy to my beauty and tried to take advantage of me. Thank goodness Zeus was there. Because he was afraid that something like that would happen again, he granted me a bit of power. It is only enough for self-defense. It is not a lot of power.”
Hera fell deep into thought. Could it be that her lustful younger brother Zeus had fought the god of the sea over a beauty and ended up killing him?
Or perhaps Zeus had always wanted to kill Poseidon because of his wild ambitions, and he had merely used this opportunity to finish him off.
But Poseidon’s trident was not easy to deal with. Would the world not have been torn asunder if those two had fought?
Many thoughts ran through Hera’s mind, but looking at this superficial woman, she quickly dismissed them. This was just a human girl. Once she was tossed into the prison, could she really make any waves?
“My younger brother is no longer the ruler of the gods. I am the ruler of the gods now,” Hera said majestically.
Ning Shu’s eyes crinkled into a smile.
“Congratulations! Congratulations on becoming the rulers” she said.
Hera raised her rather dashing eyebrows, sensing the sincerity in Ning Shu’s tone. “Shouldn’t you feel sorry for my younger brother?”
“What is there to feel sorry about? Zeus is Zeus. Even without his position as king of the gods, he is still Zeus. There is no difference,” Ning Shu said carelessly. It was not her place to say who should or shouldn’t be the ruler of the gods, nor did she care to get involved.
As long as Zeus was not the ruler of the gods, everything was fine.
Hera cast a glance at Ning Shu and said nothing more. Soon, they arrived at Mount Olympus.
From a distance, Mount Olympus was a sacred and precipitous mountain. It was majestic and magnificent as it towered proudly among the mountain ranges of Greece.
Mount Olympus was shrouded in clouds and mist all year round, soaring high into the sky. It was covered in snow for two-thirds of the year, and its highest peak pierced straight into the clouds. Lush green forests of oak, chestnut, beech, sycamore, and pine covered the mountain slopes, creating a spectacularly beautiful landscape.
In the winter, the mountain peaks were covered in pristine white snow, and in the summer, the valleys were shaded by green trees. Every day, when the sun rose from the east, the first rays of dawn would illuminate the summit of this holy mountain. When the sun set and the moon rose from the east, the brilliant peak of Mount Olympus would once again be bathed in the glow of the setting sun.
Above the sea of clouds lay rows of colonnades, and in front of these colonnades were gardens brimming with exotic flowers and rare plants!
The gods residing on Mount Olympus had created the Olympic Games. Zeus, the king of the gods, had defeated his father in wrestling, while Apollo had beaten Ares in boxing and outrun Hermes in a footrace…
The Greeks would crown every competition victor with a laurel wreath. The victors wearing these wreaths were worshipped like gods, and the most famous poets dedicated hymns of praise to them.
The chariot stopped in front of a vast palace hall. Ning Shu stepped out and observed the pillars that soared into the clouds. There were also rabbits running through the shrubbery, looking incredibly cute as they hopped about.
Ning Shu asked, “Where is Zeus?”
“My younger brother is currently in another place. Once you get there, you will be able to stay with him forever and spend the rest of your lives together.” Hera sat upon the divine throne, looking exceptionally majestic.
Ning Shu broke into a wide grin. “Okay, let me see Zeus. I will take very good care of him.”
Hera: …
What a foolish woman!
“Just what exactly is going on between you and my younger brother?” Whenever her brother mentioned this woman, he would grit his teeth with a look of deep-seated hatred. They did not seem like bedfellows at all.
Zeus prided himself on being a romantic. When it came to the women he shared a bed with, he employed a mix of grace and authority, but it was incredibly rare for him to harbor such hatred for one of them.
“He is just annoying like that,” Ning Shu said with a smile, while waving her hand. “No matter what Zeus does, I believe he is doing it for my own good, and also so that we can stay together.”
Hera: …
What a complete idiot this one was!
“Since you want to go, then go.” Hera grabbed Ning Shu and pulled her straight down into the depths of the earth. This place was incredibly deep. The distance from the surface down to Tartarus was exactly the same as the distance from the earth up to the sky.
In fact, if a bronze anvil were dropped from the sky, it would take ten days for it to reach the earth, and then another ten days to reach Tartarus.
Ning Shu took a buckwheat flatbread out of her bag and started munching on it. They were currently in a free fall anyway, and she had no idea when they would arrive.
Ning Shu’s sheer mindlessness made Hera cast a sidelong glance at her. Was she truly this senseless and completely unafraid? Was she such a clueless fool that she actually trusted her and trusted Zeus? Did she really believe they wouldn’t do anything to her?
“Do you want some?” Ning Shu offered the flatbread to Hera. Hera refused. Gods did not eat mortal food.
Hera stopped paying attention to Ning Shu. After this encounter, she would never see this woman again. Her very bones would melt away deep underground.
Ning Shu took another bite of her flatbread, took a sip of water, and asked Hera, “Could you give me a divine fruit of eternal youth?”
