Raising Yanderes to save the world

Chapter 167: Ch 166: Conflicting Information

"What is going to happen to us now? Are we being fired?"

"H-How can I afford to feed my family if I get fired now? My son is still only one year old!"

"W-Who is responsible for this? Hurry up and come out. I’ll make you confess with my fists!"

The servants panicked as they tried to come up with a solution. But their panic kept increasing every second, making it hard to calm them down.

Anjou, Lady Marsha’s butler, clapped his hands together, and everyone quickly looked at him with hopeful expressions.

"Sir Anjou, will you help us? You know that we didn’t steal anything, right? Please, tell us that you’ll do something."

The desperate servant asked, and everyone else quickly joined in. It was clear that they were looking at Anjou as their savior and clinging to him. And Sir Anjou repaid their pleas with a small smile.

"Don’t worry. I will help you all. Master is simply too stressed because of Young Master Gladion’s condition. Everything will be fine once I talk to him. For now, you should all head back to your families and then come see me. I will arrange something in the meantime."

The butler was either a genuinely compassionate person, or he had a plan for this situation.

Kael had no idea what he was thinking, but he had a strange feeling that the butler was hiding something from him and everyone else.

So Kael decided to keep an eye on the butler through his familiar while he headed back downstairs toward Young Master Gladion’s room to bring him some food.

He also told the young master everything that was going on, making Gladion look worried.

"You stole that box and Father found out? But this is strange. He’s not the kind of person to make such rash decisions and fire people without evidence. Is he sick or something?"

Gladion asked, slowly calming down. He looked far better than he had over the past few days, and there was a simple reason for that—Kael had stopped mixing medicine into his food.

The kitchen always drugged the food, but Kael made sure to neutralize it with his magic. It made Gladion much stronger and more lucid than before. Even his temper had calmed, making him seem like a normal person.

And now that he had gone without the drugs for the past twenty-four hours, Kael could not even sense an aura of magic around him.

But what Kael did know was that Gladion had a sharp mind that picked up on things quickly.

"I managed to recover the box, but it’s empty now. Do you have any idea who could have stolen whatever was inside it?"

Kael asked, and Gladion shook his head.

"Honestly, it couldn’t have been just anyone. Only people with a direct blood connection or those who have permission from a direct heir can enter that room. But Father would never allow anyone inside, and I only gave you permission."

Then... the only person it could have been was Marsha.

"Did Marsha—"

"She doesn’t have any friends or people she’s close to. The only person she trusts is that butler of hers. But would she really give permission to someone who has only been here for a few months?"

Gladion asked, and Kael felt the gears in his mind begin to turn.

"Wait! How long has that butler been in this mansion?"

Kael asked, and Gladion frowned before taking a moment to think. The aura of magic around him suddenly began to rise, which immediately annoyed Kael.

"You mean Anjou? He’s been here forever... ever since I can remember—"

That contradicted what Gladion had just said moments earlier. Kael immediately reached toward Gladion’s head and dispelled the magic affecting him.

Gladion let out a frustrated groan as he clutched his head.

"Ugh, get out of my head. It hurts! I can’t think straight. W-What is going on?!"

Kael forced all the foreign magic out in one go, and Gladion panted while clutching his head.

"Oh God! I felt like my head was about to split open. What happened to me?"

He asked, and Kael sighed.

"Can you try to recall the last thing you remember? We were talking about that butler, Anjou."

Kael asked, and Gladion nodded.

"I can. As far as I remember, he joined a few months ago. Why are you looking at me like that?"

Gladion asked in a serious voice, and Kael finally felt everything click into place. He knew who was behind everything happening in this mansion.

Anjou was the one responsible for everything, which Kael had never expected. But an even bigger question remained—why had Anjou allowed Kael to be brought here? Surely he knew that inviting a Grand Master into the mansion was a risk.

Was he willing to take that risk? Or was it simply a coincidence?

"Hey, what are you thinking about?"

Gladion asked, and Kael sighed before deciding to tell him the conclusion he had reached.

"That butler, Anjou... I have a feeling he’s responsible for everything happening here. Earlier, you told me he had been here for as long as you could remember, but you changed your answer the moment I cleared your mind."

Kael pointed out, and Gladion looked flustered.

"I... I didn’t even notice that."

But Kael had noticed, and just in time as well. This situation had the potential to become even worse if nothing was done soon.

"What should we do now? If Anjou managed to affect me, then Father and Marsha... what has he done to them?"

Gladion had every reason to be worried, and Kael did not try to reassure him with empty words. Instead, he took a deep breath and planned his next move. There was a lot he needed to do.

For now, he needed to head back and observe more. But when he reached the kitchen, the head chef grabbed him and dragged him away.

"Where are you taking me?"

Kael asked, only to be met with a glare from the chef.

"Stop talking, thief! Did you think we wouldn’t find out that you stole from our master? You’re going to be punished for it."
