’Well, that did not take long. I knew this servant was a blabbermouth and would end up spilling his sob story as soon as he got the chance. Even his motive sounds stupid. Should I take care of him now?’

Kael asked himself as he raised his hand, only to stop midway. His instincts were telling him there was more to this story.

Anjou seemed competent, but there was no way he had pulled everything off by himself. He did not seem like the careful type, so it was possible he had outside help.

"It seems like your helper gave you more than just information. Are they going to help you break that artifact’s seal as well?"

Kael asked, and Anjou’s expression tightened.

"I have no idea what you are talking about. I do not have a helper. Now, I would like to take my leave. Thank you for donating your magic to me."

With those last words spoken, Anjou left the area.

His overconfidence surprised Kael. He had actually left him completely unguarded, making it far too easy to break free of the restraints.

Once he was free, he decided to free Gladion as well. Now that he knew what was happening, there was no longer any reason for the young heir of this house to remain locked in a prison cell.

"You! What are you doing here at this hour? And why weren’t you here to give me dinner—"

Gladion looked shocked to see him and even wary. He was a far more vigilant person than Anjou, which must have been why Anjou had decided to remove him from the picture first.

"Young Master, I found the culprit behind your imprisonment and everything else happening here. It’s Anjou. He already confessed that he did all this because he wanted to monopolize your family’s heirloom and its power."

Kael told Gladion everything he knew, leaving the young noble stunned.

"You...found out...and you’re still alive? How is that possible?"

Gladion asked in a worried voice, and Kael felt a little irritated at being doubted.

"I’m sure Anjou still has some use for me. And even if he didn’t, I doubt he’d be able to kill me. He made the mistake of involving a Grand Master like me in his plans. Now, stay close because I’m about to cause a lot of trouble for everyone."

Kael told Gladion, and he nodded before taking a step back.

It took Kael only two minutes to break through the wall, and Gladion stared at his back with his jaw hanging open.

"T-This is a wall reinforced against both magic and physical force. How did you break it? It shouldn’t be possible..."

Gladion struggled to accept what he had just witnessed, but Kael could not afford to let him remain distracted.

"It wasn’t that difficult. Now, pay attention. It’s possible this entire household is under Anjou’s control, so people will be coming to stop us soon. Stay close to me, or you might get hurt."

Kael warned, and now it was up to Anjou to keep himself safe.

__________

"Darn it! I should have suppressed that stupid bitch’s will the moment she started rambling about getting a Grand Master to help her brother. Things have become a mess because of her."

Anjou complained as he tore the paper in his hand apart. Anger coated his voice, causing him to lose control.

A hand smacked him across the back, reminding him to rein in his emotions.

"Get yourself under control, you foolish child. How many times do I have to tell you? If you become too unstable, this magic will wear off halfway."

An old man struck Anjou across the back, and Anjou glared down at the elder’s hunched figure. But the old man refused to be intimidated.

"Tsk, I’m trying my best here. Things would have been so much easier if we had Gladion under our control as well. But you just had to go and give him a vision—"

"That was never my choice. I told you before—I am a vessel of God. He uses me and discards me as He wishes, and that is my destiny. What happened with Gladion was also God’s will."

The old man replied, making Anjou grin in annoyance.

"Oh really? If you are so devoted to God, then why are you helping me? Are you going to tell me that this is God’s will as well?"

He asked, daring the old man to answer.

"Perhaps your actions are also God’s will...or perhaps they are not. God is fickle, but His plans are absolute. He led me here because there was a purpose I needed to fulfill. And now that I have done so, I likely do not have long left to live."

The old man confessed before standing up and preparing to leave.

But Anjou was not willing to let him have the last word.

"Screw you and your God! I’m not going to let some god dictate my life. Die for this cause? I’ll never do that! Instead, I’ll use the power of this artifact and transcend my fate. And then, won’t I become a new god?"

Anjou declared arrogantly, but the old man merely sighed and shook his head. He truly looked sorry for Anjou’s fate and his choices.

"You poor, lost soul. You may think you are walking your own path, but even your rebellion has already been written by fate. Struggle all you want—you will still end up where you are meant to be."

The old man finally left, and Anjou gritted his teeth.

He refused to accept a destiny where he became nothing more than a stepping stone for someone else before dying. That was why he had left the temple after receiving the oracle foretelling his death. Here and now, he would defy it.

But the old man only shook his head as he walked away.

"That poor fool does not even realize he has already fulfilled his fate. He has brought Grand Master Kael here, and that will become his downfall. And once it is done, I will fulfill the final part of my mission as well."

But before that, the old man had one last letter to send.

Soon, it would be time for the family reunion.
