Raising Yanderes to save the world
Chapter 194: Ch 193: Stabbing Someone’s backA year and 7 months passed just like that. Kael’s daily routine consisted of waking up, moving his body around, and then waiting for Valary’s message.
He occasionally sent messages to Seraphina, Leon, Iris, and Lyra, but most of his time was spent plotting with Valary.
So far, Adrian was doing an amazing job of turning a blind eye, and Valary was also exposing more and more of the castle’s hidden spots. Kael made sure to note them all and hand them over to Adrian later.
But it was still impressive how Valary managed to sneak over 100 people inside the barrier at once. Some had even slipped past Adrian’s notice.
And finally, after all this planning and plotting, it was time to act.
Kael waited for Valary and her forces to arrive past the barrier and at the spot they had decided to meet. He noticed her immediately with her cloak pulled down, leaving her face bare.
She held a bottle of wine in her hand and raised it for Kael and everyone else to see.
"Grand Master...no, Duke Kael, here is a token of our friendship. I would like to sincerely congratulate you on turning 18 today. Let’s mark this momentous day, when you will become Duke, with a bottle of aged wine."
Valary handed Kael a cup before pouring him a drink.
Kael could tell that the wine was strong based on the smell alone. And there was something else mixed into it as well, giving it a slight tangy scent.
’Is Valary trying to pull something off here? Did she think I wouldn’t notice that this wine had been tampered with?’
Kael had no experience with expensive wine in this world, but he had too much experience with magic. He could tell when magic had been used to tamper with something.
And yet, despite knowing that the wine had been tampered with, he decided to go ahead and drink it in one shot.
The liquid burned as it went down Kael’s throat. But it was purified immediately once it entered his body, leaving no magical side effects visible.
Only his eyes looked a little flushed, but that was due to the sudden influx of alcohol into his system.
This was the first time he had touched this drink in his younger body, so it was a little hard for him to keep a clear head.
Valary noticed him swaying on his feet and decided to wrap her hands around Kael’s arm to steady him.
"Don’t worry, Duke Kael. You can rest against me for now. We shall take care of everything for you. You just need to rest and recover before your crowning ceremony."
Valary spoke softly as she signaled for everyone to start attacking.
Everyone rushed toward the central hall at her signal and surrounded the main family. They had also prepared special artifacts to protect themselves.
The doors of the Duke’s castle were open, and they were able to storm inside with ease.
Valary smiled at how everything was going according to plan. Kael had already helped them a lot by clearing the way for their attack.
Now, the only thing left to do was to take Adrian’s head and...
Wasn’t this far too easy?
Even if Kael had helped her, there should have been at least a few guards watching the perimeter. But so far, they had not seen a single person. It was starting to make Valary feel paranoid.
"Sir Kael, don’t you feel like something is wrong here? I am not doubting your help or anything...but there should at least be a few guards. What did you do?"
She asked, only for Kael to wrap his arms around her shoulders and press himself against her side.
"Why are you so worried about useless things? I took care of those brutes for you. They won’t cause you any trouble anymore."
Kael promised Valary, and she knew she was supposed to feel reassured, but she kept feeling like she was in trouble.
Despite her instincts screaming that this was a trap, she decided to trust Kael and kept walking. Soon, they reached the main hall, and Valary signaled for her people to secure the throne...
But something was wrong. The room sounded far too quiet, and her people...were falling one after another.
"W-What is going on? I need to help-"
She raised her hand to cast a spell, only for Kael to grab her wrist and pull it back.
"Don’t try to do something stupid. You should realize that people like you and me are not built for combat, Miss Valary. It would be best if you didn’t do anything."
Kael warned as he kept his body pressed against her back. His mouth was level with Valary’s ear, and his breath made her body shiver.
She had the sudden feeling that she had fallen into a trap, and the one who had set it was none other than Kael.
"You-! Did you betray me? Since when-"
"Shhh, ’betray’ is such a strong word, so don’t use it without concrete proof. I never betrayed you, Lady Valary. To betray you, I would have had to be on your side. But I was never on your side to begin with."
Kael told her the truth, finally showing his true colors.
Hearing him speak made the blood drain from Valary’s face as she tried to come to terms with what was happening.
"Y-You...what do you mean you were never on my side? Then, what about all those promises, your desire to become the Duke, and also-"
"Miss Valary, that was all you. I never once said that this was what I desired. You created your own narrative and blindly followed it for your own benefit. I don’t see where I betrayed you."
Kael told her, and Valary suddenly realized that he was right.
Whenever the topic of overthrowing the current Duke came up, Kael kept his mouth shut. He hardly ever participated in their discussions either. But she had believed it was because he was shy.
Who knew it was because he had intended to stab them in the back from the very beginning?
