There was a tense silence as neither side took a single step. They observed each other, wondering whether they were supposed to do something more or not.

Finally, Adrian used his mana to create a barrier around his family, and it withstood the next wave of attacks. When the air cleared, the desire to murder his opponents was clear on Adrian’s face.

"Sorry, kids, but I do not have time to entertain you all. If you are not going to get out of my way, then I will have no choice but to forcefully remove you from my presence."

That was a warning that should have sent chills down anyone’s spine. But Leon was afraid he was barking up the wrong tree right now.

None of the girls stepped away or even looked ready to give up. Instead, they gave him an almost dirty look for even suggesting such a thing.

"Well, sorry, Uncle, but we have no desire to leave this place without taking Kael with us. So, please get out of our way."

Seraphina’s voice was sweet but filled with venom at the same time. Her words were provoking as well, but Adrian did not fall for her false charm.

Instead, he gave her an annoyed look before making a strange decision.

"So, you want to find Kael? Be my guest. As long as you don’t cause too much destruction, I can welcome you as guests here."

Adrian dropped the barrier and opened the gates for them to enter. It was an odd decision considering what their current relationship was like, but Adrian did not seem to care.

In fact, it almost felt like he was in a hurry to leave, and he was willing to indulge them because of it.

"Now this feels like a trap."

Elena whispered, but she stepped forward in order to find Kael inside this vast estate, and she was not the only one. The others stepped forward as well.

The only one who did not do so was Leon. Instead of blindly looking for Kael, he decided to question the group quickly walking past him.

"Kael is not in there, right? Do you even know where he is right now?"

Leon asked, taking a gamble by asking this question. He had a feeling he was crossing an invisible line, but he did not care.

His eyes carelessly met the Duke’s, and Adrian let out a sigh. He was not going to answer, so Emma did it for him.

"Tsk, looks like we are caught, Adrian. And since that’s the case, we might as well spill the truth. Listen, kid, we do not know where Kael is either. But he did send us a mana-filled message asking us to find him. So we are tracking it right now. We would appreciate it if you didn’t become an obstacle in our way."

Emma warned, and her eyes flashed with danger. She was warning Leon not to become their enemy. And he had no desire to.

However, helping them out was a different matter.

"You said that Kael sent you a request for help? Can I see the message? We have someone in our group who can be a huge help in tracking Kael down-"

"And who can say we should trust you? You are not exactly friendly with us!"

Nathan objected, but Emma decided to pull him back. Her eyes looked at Leon’s group with suspicion, but she ultimately relented and decided to give them a chance.

"Adrian, I feel like we can trust them this time. Let’s hand over that letter for now."

Emma was risking a lot by suggesting this, but she had faith in her brother. He would make the right decision.

Adrian looked at Emma, then at Leon’s determined expression, and made his choice. He took out the letter he had kept in his pocket and handed it over.

"Here, handle it carefully. This is the only clue we have about Kael’s whereabouts."

He warned, and Leon nodded. He grabbed the letter before handing it to Lyra.

"Lyra, it is your time to shine. Hurry up and find Kael for us."

The demon queen frowned at the order, not liking the fact that she was being commanded by a human. Her irritation was apparent on her face, but she still reached out to grab the offered letter.

"Tsk, let me see what we are working with...hmm, I found Kael. Follow me."

Lyra grabbed hold of the letter for a few seconds before locating Kael. She immediately took off toward him, and the others quickly followed.

The Duke’s family was a little slower to trust her, but they decided she was harmless in the end and followed along.

If finding Kael meant putting their differences behind them, then they were willing to try.

But they had all forgotten one person during all this.

Kana had yet to be seen outside her room.

"These elves are boring, right? They follow the same routine every day—they wake up, say their prayers, look after their tree, and hone their arts. Nothing interesting ever happens. It almost makes me want to cause trouble."

The corruption in the form of Selene reached toward the barrier separating her body from the elf village and clenched her fist. Her desire to cause trouble was apparent, and Kael tensed, waiting to see if he would need to interfere.

However, Selene pulled herself back with a mischievous grin before she could make a move.

"Well, I’m just joking around. This isn’t even the past, but the memories stored within my vessel. There’s no way to interfere with the world here. I won’t even try to waste my energy."

Selene decided and sat down in midair.

They currently had an omniscient viewpoint, looking down upon the elf village from above. They could see everything, and the cycle of daily life continued day after day.

It was boring, serene, and healing. But Kael knew better than anyone that this peace was not going to last for long.

And as expected, the harbinger of the elves’ downfall finally arrived a few days later.
