Raising Yanderes to save the world

Chapter 210: Ch 209: Foolish Decisions

Things settled down for a few days, but that did not mean the dark clouds were no longer brewing on the horizon.

For the elf settlement, the darkness came in the form of the High Elf’s daughter’s declaration.

"What do you mean you are not going to marry the person you are engaged to? Do you even realize how important this marriage arrangement is for preserving our powers? How could you-"

"But Mother, I don’t love my fiancé. He does not understand me, and I know I won’t be happy with him. Can’t you just look the other way this once? For my sake?"

The daughter begged her parents, but the anger on their faces made her recoil.

Kael could immediately tell that this was a recipe for disaster, but it was also not his place to interfere. This had already happened in the past, so there was not much he could do about it now.

While he sat back and watched everything unfold, Selene’s body drifted toward him with a giggle.

"Humans sure like to make their relationships needlessly complicated, don’t you agree? For example, they become emotional and take their anger out on the wrong people. By the time they come to their senses, it is already too late."

The comparison did not sit well with Kael, but that was mainly because the ’humans’ in front of him were actually elves.

But he could not really fault the corruption’s words either.

After all, it was true that people often made their relationships needlessly complicated when there was no need to.

"Well, that is enough of this chit-chat. The interesting part is about to begin. What do you think a love-struck girl, being chased by her parents for her foolish choices, would choose to do?"

Seeing Selene’s body dancing around carelessly and clapping her hands in a mocking manner felt wrong. Kael had a feeling he should divert his attention away from her.

But being this free seemed to make Selene’s face glow. There was a serenity about her that spoke of freedom and joy. And as much as Kael hated the circumstances that had brought her to this state, he could not help but think she looked better this way.

He did not even realize he was staring at Selene until he felt her leaning closer to him.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Did you finally decide to see the truth of how ugly humans are? Then, would you like to join our cause?"

That snapped Kael out of his daze, and the barrier came back up. Selene pouted as her hand was burned, but she did not look nearly as bothered as before.

However, her words had immediately sparked Kael’s curiosity.

"Your cause? You have one?"

Kael had never heard anyone say that corruption had a cause before. It was a disease that had existed since ancient times, with no known beginning or end. It was even believed that it would remain in this world as long as humans were alive.

But for the first time, the corruption itself told Kael that it had a cause, and he felt intrigued.

’Would knowing what it is make it easier for us to get rid of it? Or am I just being led into another trap?’

The possibilities were endless, but Kael still decided to pursue the truth, fully aware that this might be his only chance.

Selene looked uninterested in answering him at first. But then she looked down and sighed.

"It seems like the main event is going to take a while, so I might as well satisfy your curiosity. So, what do you want to know?"

The corruption was willing to cooperate, which was far beyond what Kael had expected.

He also had a feeling that he might be the only person who had ever held a conversation with corruption like this, and it was only possible because the corruption had taken over Selene’s body.

This was a chance he might never get again, so he needed to make it count.

"You...what are you? And what is your goal?"

Selene’s face took on a thoughtful expression as she considered how to answer him. Finally, her lips parted.

"You want to know what I am? The answer is simple—even I don’t know who or what I am. Rather, it would be more accurate to say that I am unaware of my origins. I simply exist, and my instincts told me that my purpose was to engulf this world. I never questioned anything beyond that."

The carefree answer was as frustrating as it was surprising.

But Kael had not expected an answer in the first place, so he did not know how to react to this revelation.

"You mean you just appeared one day and decided to make yourself everyone else’s problem?"

"Hmm, pretty much. But don’t say it like that. Your words make my existence sound so ugly. For all you know, it might have been a god who brought me into existence to eradicate this world."

"That is not..."

Kael wanted to deny that possibility, but he could not completely rule it out. His hesitation made the corruption giggle, but her attention soon shifted back to the ground once more.

"Ah, looks like we are about to reach the fun part. The show is about the High Elf’s daughter breaking her lover out. All she wants is to escape with him and live peacefully with their unborn child. Now, let’s see whether they manage to escape."

Kael turned his attention back to the scene unfolding beneath him. He watched as the High Elf’s daughter opened the door to her lover’s prison and let him out.

The human looked grateful, and the two of them began to run. But the fear of being discovered soon drove them to make desperate decisions.

"H-Honey, what are we going to do? If we are caught, I will be dragged back and married to someone else. How can we escape?"

She asked, and the human put on a determined expression.

"We need to decide where to seek help. Our love is true, and I am sure the gods won’t abandon us-"

"The gods! We can ask the Elf Tree for help. It stands for truth, so I am sure it will bless our love as well."
