"You...are declining my offer?"
The corruption looked shocked by Kael’s audacity, but that shock only lasted for a second before it let out a loud laugh.
"Now that was unexpected. But may I know why you are declining my offer? What did I do to annoy you so much?"
The corruption asked, but Kael had a feeling it was not looking for an answer. So his unexpected response caught it off guard. But only for a moment.
Then its eyes sharpened as it looked at Kael with an accusing glare.
"Do you think you can change what is about to happen? A war is about to break out between the elves and the other races, where one side will be completely eradicated. Do you even realize what would happen afterward? We are immortal, but the elves..."
"Oh! Are you worried about your fellow elves? I did not realize the corruption had a consciousness. Then, do you feel sorry for ruining as many lives as you did?"
Kael asked, and the corruption looked stumped. His words took Selene aback, and she actually looked human at that moment.
"I...this is..."
She tried to speak, but the words eluded her, causing her throat to clog up.
Kael understood her frustration as well as her anger. And yet, he knew that there was nothing he could do for her.
After all, her sense of self had already been consumed by the corruption.

The world magic suddenly reminded Kael of the duty he had been putting aside.
Kael wanted to ignore it for a little while longer, but he no longer had the luxury to do such a thing. It was finally time to bring justice to Selene.
"I never expected to live long enough to see the day when corruption would feel bad for someone. But I guess I was wrong. Now, please perish, and I promise you I will do what I can for the elves."
Kael promised as he raised his power to get rid of Selene. His holy magic purified her first body when she suddenly let out a laugh.
That laugh made Kael uneasy, and he pulled his holy magic back with a frown. He was about to ask Selene what was so funny, but he sensed it immediately—her corrupted magic was swelling.
Not only had it absorbed the latent magic from the surroundings, but it had also absorbed whatever magic Kael had not been able to convert into holy magic.
"You humans are truly foolish. Tell you a few sob stories, and you let your guard down. Ah, it is so easy to fool you all."
Selene spoke with confidence as her body rapidly transformed into a giant monster. Soon, she completely merged with that mass, and the only thing left of her was her face, which was changing as well.
"Humans...are so amusing. I shall make them a part of my collection and never feel bored again."
Kael cursed at the recent development, and he could not help but curse himself.
"Darn it! This is totally my fault. I even saw this coming, and yet I still was not able to stop it..."
He knew in his mind that this was not his fault. But it felt like it was because he had loosened his guard against corruption.
Kael brought out his magic staff and took the first action. He formed a barrier around the area to trap the corruption inside before reinforcing it several times. But the corruption tilted its head and attacked the barrier.
It held, but Kael knew that it would not last forever.
"Hmm, this is a strong cage for someone like me. But unfortunately, I am not too fond of cages. So let me out now."
Selene demanded, but Kael refused to comply.
"Sorry, but I am not inclined to do that. I think you have caused enough damage by now. Now, why don’t you go to sleep?"
Kael asked in a tired voice as he maintained his barrier. He was fighting hard to keep it up, and the corruption tried its hardest to break it.
It was a battle of endurance that Kael knew he had no chance of winning.
But he was not fighting to win this battle. He was fighting to buy himself a chance to make a comeback.
After all, unlike the corruption, he was not alone. And it was only a matter of time before his companions broke free of the prison where they had been separated.
Sigh
"This is just delaying the inevitable. Now, it is time to get rid of the barrier-"
Selene was about to strike it again when a blade of pure mana sliced through her arm, cutting it off. The formless limb regenerated in a second, but the shock from the attack made her reel back.
"What happened? Who are you, and where did you come from?"
She asked in an annoyed voice, only to see the air crack apart and Adrian’s familiar figure step through.
"Tsk, did you think this flimsy prison would be enough to hold me back? Aren’t you underestimating humans a little too much? It looks like you need me to teach you a lesson about humans."
Adrian pointed his sword toward Selene before attacking and managed to cut through the corruption.
Unfortunately, his power was not holy, so it was only half as effective as divine power. It could neither end Selene’s life nor separate the corruption from her body.
The corruption knew that as well and decided to press its advantage. But that was where it made a mistake, because Adrian was a far more formidable opponent than it had calculated.
He jumped back from its attack before striking the air with his sword. Small cracks began to spread before the opening widened, revealing Leon’s silhouette. And Leon’s sword shone with divine magic, causing the corruption to cry out in pain.
