"Ah, it looks like Selene is dead. What a pity. She was a useful pawn that moved when I commanded. But this new body is not bad either."
Kana’s words came from her lips, but the speaker was the corruption. It had finally taken over another host after Selene had died, and her sister was the next vessel.
It was finally getting easier to control its hosts, and the corruption had no shortage of elves it could jump to. But as for Kana’s consciousness...
"This one is far easier to control, but also far weaker. Not that it matters. It will serve my purpose well."
It was time to start the next part of its plan and ensure its survival.
"In that future the elf tree showed Selene, the elves would be killed off by the world, and the one behind it would be Kael. So I decided to get Selene to end his life before that happened. Unfortunately, this forced my first host to die. But it also made it clear to me that I need to change strategies."
The corruption’s only goal was survival, and it was willing to do anything to make that happen.
So with this new information, its priorities had changed. It was time to take Kael out first and then move on to spreading its influence.
But how to take Kael out was the real question...
"For now, I should start heading back to the elf village and regroup with the rest of myself. And once I recover enough power, I can come back and take care of the situation."
And that was what the corruption decided to do for now.
It was far easier to leave the castle when the owner was not there. Most of the guards were happy to let it do as it pleased, even return home without Selene.
Kana was halfway back to the elf village when her carriage shook and she sensed another presence outside her door.
knock
"Miss Kana, I have news for you. May I enter the carriage?"
The person asked, and the corruption took a look through Kana’s memories and adapted to her mannerisms.
"Please come inside."
She called, and the door opened to let a beautiful elderly lady enter. But this lady had a strange energy around her.
It felt like corruption, but pure at the same time. This lady had twisted herself in such a way that she no longer felt like a whole being, but rather a strange amalgamation of different energies fighting for dominance.
"May I help you?"
Kana asked in a hesitant voice, and that made the lady sitting in front of her chuckle.
"Hmm, you can help me. In fact, we can help each other, Miss Kana."
The lady proposed, and her confidence was off the charts. It made the corruption curious enough to hear her proposal.
"Oh! Do tell me."
The elderly lady sighed before her eyes shone with forbidden knowledge.
"I am well aware of who is currently occupying your body, my lady. And please accept my condolences for what happened to your sister as well. She was an unfortunate casualty in our cruel world."
The elderly lady put on an almost pitiful expression, her eyes looking ready to shed tears. But Kana was not about to fall for her tricks.
"Get to the point."
She said, and the elderly lady’s expression was immediately wiped clean.
"Alright, if you insist, then I shall tell you. I am here to help the elves with your rebellion. For too long, you have all suppressed your desires and your existence. I am well aware of what you are planning to do, and I want to offer a helping hand."
That was...surprising, to say the least. The corruption had been very careful while planting the seeds of rebellion in the elves’ minds, and it had finally reached the stage where the elves believed the rebellion was their own idea rather than the corruption’s doing.
"Oh! How did you find out?"
Kana asked in a neutral voice. She sounded harmless, but she was already thinking of ways to kill the human sitting in front of her.
But the old lady seemed to know her intentions as well, and she addressed them directly.
"Let’s just say that it is information that comes from being on the same side as you, Lady Kana. And as for my help, I assure you that it comes free of charge. So please, don’t hesitate to accept it."
The lady offered again, and this time Kana did not refuse. The corruption was willing to take whatever help it could get without hesitation.
But as for the emotions its host felt...that was a different matter, one that irritated it. Even so, those emotions soon dulled as well.
The elderly lady continued traveling with Kana for a while longer before she got off at her stop and started walking toward a grand building.
"Chairwoman Lumi, welcome back...but I am afraid that Council Head Kristian is not in today. Would you like to wait in case he comes back?"
The front desk worker asked in a surprised but cheerful voice. He was happy to see Lumi, and she chuckled to hide her emotions.
"Please relax. I am not here to meet Kristian today. Instead, I need to pick up something from his office. It won’t take long."
Lumi promised, and no one stopped her from heading into the inner part of the council building.
Once inside, she picked up an old book from the study and looked at the markings inside it.
"It looks like another prophecy is coming true. If things continue like this, then I will eventually reach the point where I can control everything. I just need to wait and see."
According to the Book of Prophecy, the first Calamity was about to be born into this world soon. And it would begin with the elves.
No one would be spared in the end, and people would turn to those with power and influence to seek help. They would come to Lumi, and she could use this ancient text to protect them all.
"Hmm, it is only a matter of time before I attain god-like status. These fools won’t even realize what is happening, and I will gain control over everything. And then, I will bring him back as well."
