Ranaway From Wedding, Fell into Tycoon's Love Trap
Chapter 1463: I... Feel Terrible...Hearing his older sister’s worried, urgent questioning, Benjamin Shaw’s tears flowed even harder. Just now he had only been silently crying, but now he was sobbing out loud.
"Uuuh... sis... I... I feel awful..."
Benjamin clutched the spot over his heart. He couldn’t even put into words what kind of "awful" it was; he just felt unwell, unbearably unwell.
Hearing her younger brother’s choked sobs on the other end of the line, Charlotte Shaw’s heart suddenly clenched tight, and the worry in her chest grew even heavier. "Where exactly are you right now? Tell me, quickly."
She took the phone away from her ear, tapped on speaker, and set it down on the counter beside her.
While waiting for her brother to answer, she started changing her clothes.
She was already dressed, but the person on the phone was still sobbing and hadn’t responded.
Charlotte picked up her phone and turned off the speaker, then put it back to her ear. Her tone was urgent as she pressed him, "Hurry up and tell your sister where you are right now, exactly."
She was already running downstairs as she spoke.
The person on the other end just kept sobbing and didn’t respond to her at all.
Charlotte didn’t keep pressing him, nor did she hang up. She rushed out the door and immediately drove off from her place.
Before pulling out, she turned the phone back to speaker mode and set it on the dash.
Listening to the constant sobbing coming through the phone, Charlotte felt especially unsettled, but she couldn’t get anything more out of him right now.
She drew in a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down as quickly as possible, and, once calmer, tried to analyze the situation.
She figured her brother definitely wasn’t at their parents’ house; if he were there, her mom would never just let him cry like this and do nothing.
He couldn’t be outside somewhere either, because over the phone she hadn’t heard any background noise.
Crying like this in the middle of the night—could he have gone to...
The words "New Flame City" suddenly flashed through Charlotte’s mind. Once she realized Benjamin was very likely at the New Flame City apartment, she didn’t hesitate for even a second and drove straight toward New Flame City.
It was already the dead of night, and there were very few cars on the road. Charlotte floored it, and a little over half an hour later, she arrived at her destination.
After parking the car, she reached for her phone, then opened the door and got out.
"Benjamin! I’m at the apartment door; could you come open it for me?" By now she was certain her brother was here, because she’d seen his car.
Charlotte strode into the apartment building and headed upstairs as fast as she could. The moment she reached the floor, she saw the apartment door wide open.
She assumed Benjamin had just opened it, and without thinking much of it, she hurried over with long strides.
Once inside, she heard real-life crying—her brother’s crying, clear and unmistakable.
Charlotte shut the door behind her, then followed the sound of the sobs. In the bedroom, she found her brother Benjamin.
At that moment Benjamin was sprawled on the bed, crying. Maybe he was too caught up in it, or maybe it was the alcohol; either way, he hadn’t noticed someone coming in at all.
Charlotte hung up the call and walked quickly toward the figure on the bed. When she reached the bedside, she saw that Benjamin had tossed his phone off to the side.
No wonder he hadn’t responded the whole time she’d been talking to him—he’d thrown the phone aside long ago.
Then who was it that opened the door for her just now? Or had he come back earlier and simply never closed it?
Charlotte shook her head. Now wasn’t the time to think about that. She needed to find out what on earth had happened to her brother tonight.
