Ranaway From Wedding, Fell into Tycoon's Love Trap
Chapter 1479: Just Exercise Your AuthorityAlice Turner had been sitting to the side just now, watching and listening. She heard every word of Anthony’s conversation with the Shaw siblings, Charlotte Shaw and Benjamin Shaw, loud and clear.
What he was thinking, what his goal was, she understood perfectly well in her heart.
To avoid Thomas Fisher misunderstanding and getting upset, Alice had always kept her distance from Benjamin; in a situation like today’s she would definitely avoid it.
She had already chosen the man in her heart, so she wouldn’t do anything inappropriate anymore. Even though that man despised her in all kinds of ways, he was still her ex-husband.
She didn’t want the man by her side to misunderstand, and even less did she want people gossiping about the man by her side.
"How can we sign the contract without you there? My dad only told me to assist you, remember." Anthony wasn’t lying at all; before coming back to China, Frederick Taylor had indeed instructed him that he was to follow Alice’s arrangements in everything.
When Frederick gave those instructions, Alice had been right there. At the time, Frederick didn’t just brief Anthony; he also specifically pulled her aside and told her again to keep a close eye on Anthony and not let him cause any trouble.
"The contract’s already drafted. You just need to take it over at noon." Anthony might look like a kid who can’t be serious from the outside, but when it came to real work he was extremely earnest; he never cut corners.
It was only after spending a long time with him that Alice slowly realized this. At first she’d thought he was a frivolous second-generation rich kid with a devil-may-care attitude, but later her discovery felt like a slap in the face, loud and clear.
Of course Anthony knew the contract had already been drafted—he, Alice, and Benjamin had drafted it together. He insisted on dragging Alice out to lunch precisely to separate her from Thomas.
Maybe because their first meeting hadn’t gone well, he’d never had a good impression of Thomas.
"But you..."
"You just make the call. Mr. Taylor said the final decision is in your hands."
When Frederick gave this particular instruction, Anthony had been politely ushered out by his old man; this was something Frederick had specifically entrusted to Alice. She’d originally planned to tell him in a few days, but given the current situation...
She didn’t want to drag it out anymore, and she couldn’t afford to. If she kept delaying, it would not only do her no good, it would also bring unnecessary trouble down on her.
Alice wasn’t the type to be indecisive. She liked to settle everything cleanly, and she was even more so when it came to relationships.
If she liked someone, she liked him. If she didn’t, she didn’t.
Since she’d already agreed to Thomas’s proposal, she wouldn’t entertain any other thoughts, and she wouldn’t change her mind because of what anyone said.
Anthony’s eyes went wide, his face full of disbelief. "How come I didn’t know about this? When did my dad tell you that? You’re not messing with me, right?"
His old man had never thought much of him, always seeing him as a walking disaster. In his dad’s and the board’s eyes, he was nothing but a good-for-nothing playboy.
"The boss told me that behind your back. You just go ahead and exercise your authority; I would never dare use the boss’s secret order to joke around with you." Alice looked utterly serious, and even her tone carried a strict, precise edge.
She actually didn’t have to be this way, but thinking of the way he’d been fooling around just now, she had no choice but to toughen up.
Anthony had honestly thought Alice was teasing him earlier. Now, seeing her so serious—this was the first time he’d ever seen her like this—he couldn’t help but straighten up as well.
"Got it," he replied, dead serious, with those four words.
