Re: Evolution Online

Chapter 1449 - 1450: Seeing her again

The scroll in Liam's hand ignited. Space tore open before him, forming a stable, glowing passage. Without hesitation, Liam stepped through. Alex followed, and the portal snapped shut behind them.

The moment the world stabilized, a violent wave of demonic energy slammed into them.

Liam narrowed his eyes.

They had appeared in the middle of a battlefield.

An enormous army of demons stretched across the land ahead, while beyond them stood an equally vast force of vampires. The two armies were already locked in combat, turning the entire region into a sea of blood, fire, and shattered earth.

Millions of demons surged forward beneath black banners, their bodies covered in scales, horns, claws, and burning demonic markings. Some towered like giants, while others flew overhead on leathery wings, raining dark flames onto the battlefield.

Facing them were the vampires. They moved with terrifying speed. Figures dressed in crimson and black flashed between the demonic ranks, tearing through armor with claws and blades. Blood-red energy filled the sky as thousands of vampires transformed into enormous bats, mist, or monstrous winged forms before diving back into the battle.

The sounds of fighting were deafening. Every few seconds, another section of the battlefield vanished beneath a blast powerful enough to flatten mountains.

Alex acted fast and immediately tried to put barriers around them, but it was useless. This was not a place where she could matter.

These were not ordinary demons or vampires. Even the weakest soldiers possessed considerable strength, while powerful auras could be sensed everywhere. Several figures fighting high above the battlefield radiated enough pressure that the space around them constantly distorted.

Then a thunderous roar shook the heavens.

"Crimson filth! Today your bloodline ends!"

A gigantic demon descended from the clouds, wielding a black axe large enough to cleave a fortress apart. Opposite him, a pale man wearing an elegant crimson coat floated calmly in the air.

The vampire smiled. "You've been saying that for three thousand years." His crimson eyes flashed. The blood covering thousands of corpses below suddenly rose into the air. It gathered behind him.

A vast crimson ocean formed across the sky.

Alex stared upward. She had never seen something like this before. The mere presence of the attack was enough to put pressure on her.

The vampire raised one hand. The entire ocean of blood transformed into countless spears. Then he brought his hand down. The sky turned red.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Thousands of demons vanished beneath the barrage.

The demon general roared and swung his axe, releasing a wave of black energy that tore through the blood spears and continued straight toward the vampire army. The earth split open beneath it.

Liam and Alex were standing directly in its path. Alex's expression changed. They couldn't possibly handle something like this.

One blood spear was coming straight for them. Pressure exploded. There was blood everywhere. Alex could only attempt in vain to block the attack before her barrier was shattered.

"Liam!" She shouted just as the blood spear was about to decimate both of them. However, at the very last moment, the spear was stopped mid-air, and it collapsed and exploded as if it had hit something.

Alex stood with her mouth wide open. She quickly focused all of her mana sense to understand the situation and finally she saw it. The two of them were in fact not open and exposed. There was a thick misty barrier surrounding them.

She gulped as she opened and closed her mouth. She then turned towards Liam whose eyes were now misty white. All around him mist had gathered and though it seemed feeble and about to disturb, none of the attacks could even come close to this mist.

A smile bloomed on Alex's face. In all this chaos, she had forgotten. She might be surrounded by monsters all around, but the person standing next to her was the biggest monster of all.

She silently stepped back and started observing. Her combat skills were useless here. Even her tactical skills were useless here, but observing something like this on a grand scale was a heaven sent opportunity by itself. She calmed herself and focused on her dao and her training, no longer bothered by the death and destruction piled up all around her.

Liam also did the same thing. He was strong here, in the midst of a battleground full of dead souls wasting away, but he did not want to go all out just yet. He was only slowly siphoning and using soul energy without inhaling everything in sight.

This was because things did not make sense just yet. This was a grand battle between demons and vampires, but what were they doing here? Why did that guy send him here? Was this all a trap after all?

Even as Liam thought about it, suddenly something stood out. Back on Earth, vampires had shown up right after the apocalypse. Could these vampires have anything to do with the vampires back on Earth?

Liam tried to gather some information through the memories of the vampire souls. He slowly manipulated one soul after another, harvesting one at a time. But it was of no use. The vampires and demons falling into his hands were lower-tier soldiers. They were strong, no doubt, but they weren't important enough to know anything.

Liam did not rush. He couldn't afford to make any mistakes here. A small slip and he would instantly be found out. There were powerhouses far stronger than him all around him. This was not some place he could mess around without consequences. Staying here every second was a risk in itself.

But Liam waited. He trusted that man and his skills. So he waited.

Time slipped by quickly, and by now he had gathered hundreds of thousands of vampire and demonic souls. Liam continued waiting and observing. In the meantime, the tide of the battle had quietly changed. In the beginning, the vampires appeared more powerful and even looked as if they were going to slaughter the demonic army in a one-sided battle.

However, right now things did not look so good for the vampires. The demons slowly took the upper hand in the fight.

Was this the message? Was this the warning? Were the demons about to invade Earth?

Liam mulled over many possibilities when suddenly something unexpected happened. A divine brilliance erupted in the battleground. In the midst of the fight between the demons and the vampires, a third party unexpectedly arrived.

Liam froze in shock. Alex shuddered.

When the Oracle first asked Liam to take Alex with him, he had made some guesses, and this was one of them, but he never did think it would actually end up becoming true.

Arriving on the battlefield one after another were divine priestesses and paladins. More shockingly, five heavenly figures descended. Amidst those five figures was the silhouette of someone Liam recognized immediately. His expression changed.

No fucking way.

Standing beneath the descending pillars of divine light, clad in pristine white cloth and surrounded by a halo of golden radiance, was none other than Mia.
