Liam looked up. Divine pressure exploded all around him.
Xerathuna’s power descended, crushing the shattered stone beneath Liam’s feet into powder and forcing the surrounding mountains to groan beneath the weight.
Golden light spread across the sky in enormous waves, and within moments, the entire world above Green Mountain had disappeared behind a brilliant sea of divine energy.
Her aura alone was much stronger than the Archon’s. However, everything was different now.
Liam did not panic at all. He briefly exchanged a glance with the Green Mountain ancestor. The old man smiled and gave him a nod. Liam returned the greeting.
At the same time, another equally shocking divine wave erupted, but this time from Liam. Or rather, from another Liam who materialized right next to him.
BOOOOOOM!
White-golden flames exploded across the heavens. The oppressive divine pressure bearing down upon Green Mountain abruptly stopped descending as a second force collided with it head-on.
For a brief moment, the entire sky seemed to divide into two distinct worlds. Brilliant golden light dominated one side, while white-golden flames consumed the other, each carrying a terrifying Dao pressure that caused the space between them to twist and fracture.
The first soul avatar stood beside Liam. Its appearance was almost identical to his. White-golden flames flowed lazily around its body, occasionally sinking beneath its skin before emerging again.
The expressions of the Green Mountain elders changed immediately.
Several of them had already reached the entrance to the grand hall, yet they stopped and turned around despite the ancestor’s earlier warning. The younger disciples might not have understood exactly what they were sensing, but the elders certainly did.
"A... a... Dao King?"
Xerathuna didn’t move. She was in complete and utter shock. Her golden third eye focused upon the avatar.
The rage that had dominated her expression moments earlier was replaced with disbelief as her divine perception swept across the soul avatar. "A soul incarnation?"
Liam heard the uncertainty. His lips curved upward.
Her third eye opened wider as she attempted to penetrate deeper into the avatar’s structure, but what she found only made her expression become more serious.
It possessed an independent cultivation foundation, a powerful soul, a functioning Dao core, and a connection to Liam so deep that the boundary between master and avatar was difficult to define.
How did the rat manage to accomplish something like this? She gritted her teeth as her power exploded again. How could something like this happen? How could this mortal stand equal to her?
Her golden third eye blazed.
He wasn’t her equal.
He couldn’t be.
She had cultivated for countless years, crossed worlds, survived divine tribulations, crushed rivals who had once been considered unparalleled geniuses, and climbed through the ranks of the Celestial Court until entire worlds lowered their heads at the mention of her name. The distance separating her from the mortal she had encountered in that insignificant backwater world should have been so enormous that no amount of talent or fortune could possibly bridge it within such a short period of time.
Yet the evidence stood directly in front of her.
White-golden flames continued colliding with her divine aura, and no matter how much power she released, the other side refused to collapse. The soul incarnation merely stood beside Liam with an indifferent expression, its long flames rolling across the heavens while the Dao surrounding Green Mountain responded to its presence.
A Dao King.
A fucking Dao King.
And the mortal who had created it was still standing there with the cultivation of a Transcendent.
"Impossible."
Liam’s smile widened. That single word felt surprisingly good.
He remembered running from her people. He remembered being hunted through that training world, desperately hiding his identity and calculating every possible way to survive while people far beyond his cultivation treated him like an insect that could be crushed whenever convenient.
Back then, Xerathuna had existed somewhere far above him. Now she was staring at one of his soul avatars and calling its existence impossible.
Liam couldn’t help himself. "Nice to see you too."
Xerathuna’s face darkened. "Do you think this changes anything?" She snorted, and a staff appeared in her hand.
The weapon was nearly as tall as she was, its shaft forged from a pale golden material covered in inscriptions. At its crown rested a crystal resembling an enormous golden eye which immediately locked onto Liam.
Xerathuna wrapped her fingers around the staff, and the divine energy filling the heavens abruptly changed. The scattered golden light began gathering toward her. Her aura compressed. The pressure increased.
The first soul avatar reacted at the same moment. White-golden flames surged around its body as its gaze settled upon Xerathuna, and for the first time since materializing, it shifted into a genuine fighting stance.
Xerathuna smiled coldly. "You have no idea what a Dao King is capable of."
The golden eye at the top of her staff opened.
DONG!
A deep resonance rolled through the heavens. The white-golden sea surrounding the soul avatar suddenly sank several meters as an even more terrifying divine pressure descended from above.
Green Mountain’s grand formation flashed violently in response, and dozens of mountains trembled as countless ancient runes appeared across their slopes.
Liam sighed and shook his head. "Yes. You are correct. I still need more experience. Please teach this one also."
Xerathuna raised a brow at that unexpected response just as another powerful aura erupted. Her expression froze.
The new aura did not come from the first soul avatar. It came from Liam’s other side.
Black mist seeped into the air, followed almost immediately by streams of dark crimson energy that twisted through it like veins of blood. Shockingly, there was also divine energy in the mix.
As those three energies spread through the heavens, another figure gradually materialized beside Liam. Another Liam. The second soul avatar opened its eyes.
BOOOOOOM!
A third portion of the heavens changed. Golden divine light still covered Xerathuna’s side of the sky, while white-golden flames surrounded the first soul avatar, but now black and crimson energy surged upward beside them, carrying a second Dao King aura that crashed into the already unstable balance of power.
The effect upon Green Mountain was immediate.
KACHA! KACHA!
Cracks spread through several outer barriers before the sect’s ancient formations reinforced them, while mountains that had survived thousands of years began trembling beneath three competing Dao King auras. Even the laws surrounding the battlefield seemed to become chaotic as Fire, Divine, Demonic, and Blood Daos simultaneously fought for dominance.
Nobody spoke.
The Green Mountain elders simply stared.
The Grand Elder who had identified the first avatar as a Dao King slowly turned toward the Green Mountain Ancestor, his mouth opening and closing several times before he finally managed to speak.
"Ancestor..."
The old man raised a hand. "Don’t ask." His lips slowly curled upward, and then he started laughing. "Ha... hahaha..."
Several elders looked at him.
The Green Mountain Ancestor slapped his thigh. "This fucking brat!"
Liam heard him and grinned. He stepped forward and casually stretched his shoulders. Two Dao Kings stood on either side of him while his own Transcendent cultivation remained almost laughably insignificant between their enormous auras.
"Alright, this should be enough. Let’s end this all here."
