Liam knew exactly who it was. It was the same Blood Prince guy. Was he and the priestess in some sort of relationship? Considering how fucked up everyone involved seemed to be, Liam couldn’t exactly rule it out. Not that it mattered to him.
Xerathuna’s reaction only made him more curious. The panic that had begun creeping into her expression disappeared almost immediately, replaced first by surprise and then to fake happiness?
Liam could only stare in shock as he watched the high and mighty priestess turn into a damsel in distress in a single second.
If Liam hadn’t personally watched her screaming about insignificant rats while trying to murder him less than a minute ago, he might actually have believed that she was some graceful celestial maiden welcoming her beloved after a long separation.
The Blood Prince appeared to be enjoying every second of it.
Liam almost respected the shamelessness.
Xerathuna moved slightly closer to the Blood Prince. "Your timing couldn’t have been better. This man murdered several members of the Celestial Court and has repeatedly escaped judgment. I was just about to deal with him when—"
"When three Dao Kings appeared?" The Blood Prince’s crimson eyes moved past her.
Xerathuna’s smile stiffened.
The sword avatar stood silently before Liam, its silver blade still lowered, although its Sword Dao remained locked upon both newcomers. Farther away, the Celestial Prison continued shaking as white-golden fire and black-crimson energy attacked it from within.
Xerathuna tightened her fingers around his hand. "They are merely soul incarnations."
"Whatever strange technique he has used, his real cultivation is still only Transcendent. If we destroy the original, the incarnations should collapse with him."
"Even if they are not, I will still take care of them for you, my love. You know I would do anythng for you."
Xerathuna shook her head. "No, my dearest. I don’t want you to risk your life. This is my fate. This is my struggle. I have to defeat this evil with my own hands."
"Nonsense. You will do no such thing."
"But... I... I really don’t want to risk your life, my love. What if he uses some unorthodox technique?"
"My angel, relax. I can end this rat in a single attack but just for you, I will summon the entire blood court. Alright? Are you happy now?"
Xerathuna smiled as the Blood Prince gently stroked her head. However, when her cold gaze met Liam’s, the softness disappeared from her eyes and was replaced by naked contempt.
A backwater piece of shit would always remain a backwater piece of shit. A few lucky encounters could never amount to anything before true power.
So what if he had somehow created three Dao King soul incarnations? So what if he had obtained some ancient inheritance or even managed to subdue that mysterious heavenly treasure?
The fact that he possessed such things only proved that his luck was heaven-defying, while the fact that he had displayed all of them before her proved that he was still the same ignorant fool who had no understanding of the forces he was provoking.
He had spent his entire existence struggling upward from some insignificant mortal world. She had the Celestial Court behind her. And now, because of his own stupidity, he was about to face the Blood Court as well.
Xerathuna almost wanted to laugh. While the blood prince summoned the vampire court, Xerathuna had already summoned the entire celestial court.
Sure, the bastard might have had a fighting chance if he had overwhelmed her instantly and done something. But he had played all his cards wrong, and now his time was up. She had been frightened for nothing.
"Your fate will not change. You will die and rot here today." She smiled as numerous portals opened up all over the Green Mountain.
The first were crimson. They tore through space one after another until enormous blood-red rifts covered half the sky, each of them releasing such dense Blood Dao energy that the sunlight itself seemed to take on a crimson hue.
Ancient formations appeared around the portals and locked them into place, while enormous silhouettes gradually became visible beyond them. Then came the gold.
DONG!
A bell resounded from somewhere impossibly distant. The sound passed through the world itself.
Golden circles appeared across the other half of the heavens, expanding rapidly until they formed enormous gates covered in divine inscriptions. Some were hundreds of meters tall, while others stretched for kilometers, and behind every gate stood rows upon rows of figures dressed in silver-white armor and ceremonial robes.
All of a sudden, two entire elite armies belonging to factions that stood at the very top of the cosmos were arriving on a single world. The scale of it was almost impossible to comprehend.
Green Mountain had existed for an unimaginably long time, and although its disciples traveled beyond their home world, fought in secret realms, and occasionally encountered powerful outsiders, the world itself remained insignificant when viewed against the vastness of the cosmos.
It possessed no legendary resources that could attract the attention of supreme factions, nor was it positioned along some vital inter-world route worth fighting over. Yet now the Celestial Court and the Blood Court were both descending upon it.
DONG!
Another golden gate opened. Thousands of Celestial paladins marched through in perfect formation, their individual divine auras merging into a single overwhelming presence. Behind them came priestesses, Archons, ancient war chariots, and enormous floating temples whose shadows stretched across entire mountain ranges.
WOOOOONG!
The crimson portals answered.
Vampire legions poured through them by the thousands as gigantic blood-red warships pushed their way across the spatial boundary. Ancient vampires who had ruled territories for longer than some civilizations had existed appeared one after another, while terrifying crimson auras spread across the opposite half of the heavens.
The sky was being divided before everyone’s eyes. Gold on one side. Crimson on the other.
The sheer concentration of powerful cultivators had begun affecting the world itself. Spiritual energy churned violently, spatial fractures appeared and disappeared across the upper atmosphere, while the laws surrounding Green Mountain strained beneath the presence of beings that this world had never been meant to accommodate in such numbers.
On the outside, this whole sector of the cosmos was suddenly in chaos.
Had a cosmic war begun? Had Green Mountain discovered some supreme inheritance? Had an ancient treasure appeared?
News spread at a terrifying speed. Green Mountain’s world might have been insignificant on the cosmic scale, but the surrounding region was anything but empty.
Hundreds of inhabited worlds were scattered throughout the nearby void, connected through spatial passages, teleportation formations, trading routes, and territories controlled by factions of varying strength.
The moment the Celestial Court began opening large-scale gates, every sufficiently powerful organization in the region detected the spatial disturbance. Then the Blood Court arrived. That was when everything escalated.
On a prosperous cultivation world several spatial crossings away, an enormous communication formation erupted with light inside the palace of a local dynasty. The emperor had been discussing border disputes with his ministers when one of his intelligence officers rushed into the hall without waiting for permission.
"Your Majesty! Massive spatial activity has been detected in the Green Mountain sector."
The emperor frowned. "From whom?"
"The Celestial Court."
Silence immediately descended over the hall. Before anyone could properly react, another intelligence officer rushed inside. "Your Majesty! The Blood Court has also opened large-scale passages into the same world!"
The emperor stood so quickly that his throne cracked beneath his hand. "Both?"
"Yes!"
The emperor’s expression changed completely. "Close the spatial borders."
"But our merchants-"
"Fuck the merchants! Shut down every long-distance spatial formation connected to that sector and recall anyone important enough to recall. If those two factions are starting a war, I don’t want a single ship from this dynasty anywhere near it."
Orders spread immediately. The same scene repeated across world after world. Ancient sects activated emergency formations. Merchant organizations redirected entire fleets.
Independent cultivators who had been traveling toward Green Mountain’s region abruptly changed destinations, while information brokers began paying absurd prices for even the smallest fragment of reliable intelligence.
Within an hour, countless communication networks were flooded with reports. The Celestial Court had mobilized. The Blood Court had mobilized. Multiple Dao King presences had been detected. Elite forces were crossing between worlds. The destination was Green Mountain.
Nobody knew why. That last part drove everyone insane. If a supreme treasure had appeared, they needed to know what it was.
If the Celestial Court and Blood Court were beginning a war, every major faction needed to know why, because a conflict between powers of their scale could redraw territories across enormous regions of the cosmos.
If Green Mountain had somehow offended both... Then everyone wanted to know what kind of suicidal lunatic was running Green Mountain.
Rumors multiplied faster than facts could catch them. Some claimed an inheritance belonging to an existence above the Dao King realm had appeared beneath Green Mountain.
Others insisted an ancient tomb had opened. One particularly popular rumor claimed Green Mountain had discovered a primordial weapon capable of destroying entire worlds.
Another claimed that the Celestial Court had secretly attacked the Blood Court and that Green Mountain was merely where the retaliation had begun.
Within another hour, someone confidently announced that an ancient Celestial princess had eloped with a Blood Court prince and hidden herself inside Green Mountain. That particular rumor spread disturbingly quickly.
Regardless, many started taking note of this event. A few rogue Dao Kings started teleporting to Green Mountain. Other empires also started sending their top experts.
Dao Kings were not fruits growing on trees for every random empire to possess a dozen, but the ancient clans, supreme sects, immortal dynasties, and other great powers spread throughout the surrounding regions naturally had monsters of their own.
More importantly, many of those monsters had been alive for an absurdly long time. It was natural for these factions to possess a good deal of Dao Kings. Though not everyone was available at the moment, some took note and became interested. No one wanted to miss a heavenly treasure in case something like that had popped up in Green Mountain.
So many more started teleporting into Green Mountain. Now it was not just the Blood Court and the Celestial Court. There were all sorts of forces.
Some newcomers arrived through enormous teleportation formations that announced their identities from the moment they appeared, while others slipped quietly through tiny spatial cracks and concealed themselves somewhere far from Green Mountain.
There were ancient clans whose names were recognized across hundreds of worlds, imperial dynasties that had survived for millions of years, supreme sects whose territories stretched across entire star regions, and solitary cultivators who belonged to absolutely nobody.
Naturally, none of them were stupid enough to immediately join the confrontation. Most stopped far away.
Some remained beyond Green Mountain’s defensive formations, while the more cautious ones didn’t even enter the world itself, choosing instead to hover within the surrounding void and observe through treasures capable of piercing enormous distances.
WOOOONG!
A massive blue formation suddenly unfolded several thousand kilometers from Green Mountain, covering the sky like an enormous flower. Nine figures emerged from its center, led by a middle-aged woman wearing dark-blue robes embroidered with silver stars.
Several Green Mountain elders recognized the emblem on her shoulder.
"Nine Star Palace..."
Before they could recover, space distorted elsewhere.
KACHA!
A black crack split the heavens. An enormous golden chariot burst through it, pulled by six creatures resembling winged lions. Hundreds of armored cultivators accompanied it, and an old man sat cross-legged at the center with his eyes closed.
"Golden Lion Dynasty."
Another formation activated. Then another. And another.
The arrivals spread across the horizon until the Green Mountain elders stopped trying to identify everyone. Some came alone. Others brought entourages.
A few ancient clans apparently decided that subtlety was for poor people and arrived aboard enormous ships that immediately began competing with the Blood Court and Celestial Court for space in the upper atmosphere.
The world became absurdly crowded.
