The weapon Denise had pulled out was a black Glock 17.
It had a sleek body that stretched 4.5 inches, its frame made of polymer and weight built for flexibility and easy carry.
Denise had moved at her best speed, but I had clearly seen each of the woman's actions, able to stop her even as her arm went over my shoulder.
Bang!! Bang!!
I remained still as the woman pulled the trigger on the semi-automatic pistol, then pushed to my full height while taking a step back.
Looking away from Denise's annoyed expression, I turned around to Martha, unbothered for the woman who had just received two bullets.
As I expected, Martha was alright, but she had not escaped harm the way I thought.
Rather than step out of the way of Denise's fire or even dodge the bullets, something I wouldn't put past her despite her restrained state, Martha had simply stood her ground and stopped the bullets in her path.
No, her body didn't tank the round objects of steel.
Rather, the energy which had once suffused the air, that she had been reabsorbing into her body, had suddenly coagulated in front of her and formed a sturdy wall.
The bullets smashed into it and could take no further step forward. Anyone staring at Martha would see them floating right in front of her, bits of steam leaking into the air.
To my left, Denise stood up from her seat, and I dutifully took another step back.
Both women had their gazes on each other, a volcano erupting in between, and I didn't want to get caught in the fire.
Staring at the bullets hanging harmlessly in front of her enemy, Denise did not fret.
With an amused smile on her face, Martha opened her mouth to speak, but whatever words left her lips were immediately drowned out by the sound of gunshots.
Bang!! Bang!!
A Glock 17 had at least 17 rounds, and deafening the entire room, Denise did not take her hand off the trigger.
Flashes of red continuously lit up from the front of her gun, her intentions not left up for debate, but Martha was effortlessly foiling her plans.
Each bullet was caught in the defence of the woman, and though Denise was blind to it, I could see Martha's Psion coiling and reinforcing around her, making an expansive shield around her.
Denise did not take her hand off the trigger till its entire magazine was empty, and when that happened, she moved her left hand to her hip, pulling up her nightgown, and from there plucked out another magazine.
Hmmm!!
"Not a bad strategy." I commended Denise's persistence.
Since Martha remained in place, making no other move, Denise reloaded her gun and, without delay, resumed her bombardment.
The first round had seen 17 rounds being fired, and I expected something similar. Denise's plan was not bad. If she couldn't break Martha's defence in an instant, her next option was to overload it.
Martha's energy was undoubtedly potent, shocking even to me, but it wasn't invincible.
In the second round, Denise gripped the gun with both hands and, this time holding the gun steady, she began firing.
Unlike before, where she shot around, she aimed at a particular spot, and by the fifth shot, I smiled within as fresh energy began pouring out of Martha to reinforce her defence.
Martha kept up her unbothered smile, but I could see that Denise had put her on the ropes and she needed to take the situation seriously.
By the tenth shot, Martha could no longer keep fully relaxed.
Keeping up her carefree image, a slack to her waist, she raised her left hand and placed her index finger at the spot in her shield where Denise's bullets had been unceasingly hitting.
The corners of Denise's lips cracked in a smirk when she saw this, and it invigorated her to keep her gun blasting.
Rather than change her target, she kept her bullets hitting the same spot till she once more ran out of bullets.
Normally, I should be a mediator, but I liked how things were going. Martha and Denise at odds worked out for me nicely; I just had to make sure that Martha didn't get triggered and somehow harm my POA.
"Not bad. You're not as weak as I thought."
Martha gave the silence that ensued only a beat before speaking. Keeping her gaze, she withdrew her left hand and brought her index finger to her tongue.
That's nasty, I said within.
Watching Martha, Denise gave a full-blown grin, her tongue coming out and going over her lips.
Wait, I've never seen that.
I had my reservations on the matter, but Martha was right, for the future to come, Denise was severely underequipped.
Having her body paralysed just by the presence of another, Denise should have known this, but she looked fully confident.
"Excuse me."
Speaking politely, Denise brought down her gun and, without rushing, walked past me, heading to the mini-bar behind.
I turned around, wondering if getting a drink was her way of tapping out, but then, rather than pick out one of the bottles from the shelf, she bent down and disappeared behind the counter.
The woman didn't take long. She reappeared once more, her body rising, an AK-47 in hand. Pulling back its handle and letting it snap forward, she looked at Martha critically, then, shaking her head, placed the gun on the counter and bent down again.
Using only a few seconds, she reappeared for the second time, this time with a submachine gun, and she narrowed her eyes at Martha before dropping it and disappearing behind the counter once more.
A few seconds passed, and Denise did not appear well, at least not to my eyes. Mind vision didn't see her, but it caught the movement of a shadow.
"Move!"
The words belonged to Denise, but the problem was that they came from Martha's left, requiring me to turn all the way around.
Bang!!
With the warning from Denise at the last second, Martha moved her head, escaping the deadly shell from a shotgun just a few inches from her head.
Not missing a moment, Denise pulled the pump, reloading the gun, and the next moment, she was standing behind Martha, the barrel of her gun pressed to the back of her head.
"Please move your head."
Slowly, Martha cocked her head to the side, exposing the shotgun behind her, and without a word, Denise pulled the trigger.
Bang!!
