Cube Academy, late in the evening. The Academic Club's reserved room.

Kim Hajin lowered his smoking gun, his heart still racing from what he did.

'It's a good thing that I prepped it just in case... And I take back being upset about the modified setting.'

Yun Hyun, the upperclassmen in charge of the Academic Club... the man who had secretly contracted with the demon Lilith to become a djinn. He clutched his chest in shock, stumbling back. "How...?"

Yeonha let out a shaky breath and said, "...I knew it was a good idea to invest in you, Hajin."

Hajin let out a shaky laugh and said, "You're welcome, I guess...?" As he did, he glanced at the antique gun in his hands.

===

[Antique Japanese Samurai Tanegashima Pistol]

An antique pistol from the last 1500s used during the Japanese invasion of Korea and the successful capture of Seoul by Japanese forces. When wielded against those of Joseon descent, inflicts 'mortality.'

===

He had mixed feelings about it.

On the one hand, it was proof that Hajin had DEFINITELY lacked information about the history of firearms... and of his own country.

On the OTHER hand... it meant that he could actually be a viable gunner without modifying too much with his SP.

Still...

'I got lucky.'

Yun Hyun stumbled forward before dissolving into a pile of black ashes.

A powerful djinn that should only be killable through light magic or something like Suho's Gift...

Hajin had managed to do it himself. But only because of the opponent he faced.

Yun Hyun was, obviously, of Joseon descent since he was Korean. Because of that, Hajin got a lucky break and managed to kill him.

'But it won't work on everyone. Moreover...'

The fact that 'anti-nationality' weapons existed...

It was technically within his setting. The Returnee Hero allowed for things like that...

But it was concerning.

'That means that things like a rifle from American history could kill someone like Rachel no matter what protections she has. Or if the gun from President Lincoln's shooter existed...'

Guns were not meant to be strong in Hajin's story. It was a way to balance things and allow for Heroes to use cool weapons like swords and also to use magic.

But if the balance was shifted BACK...

Hajin pursed his lips.

Yeonha patted Hajin's shoulder and said, "You did good. I know it's hard since you killed someone... but he was a djinn, Hajin."

"...Right."

A djinn. Someone who would have harmed more people, and would have harmed Yeonha too in the future.

Because of that...

> Luck activates! You have preempted a major story threat and greatly impressed Yoo Yeonha!

> By defeating Yun Hyun before he could harm other female Cube Cadets, you have gained a great deal of SP!

...Hajin gained a lot of SP. But...

'Why do I feel like something dangerous is going to happen soon?'

===

Late at night in Wonju, after the dinner at the Golden Eagle.

Both to digest their food before sleeping, and also to fulfill the bets from their little competition, Lee, Rachel, and Nayun had gone out to shop around.

"You know," Nayun teased. "We never DID say who's paying the bill~"

Rachel sighed. "You say that, Nayun. But I know I lost."

"Huh?" Nayun blinked. "How'd you find out?"

Rachel winked. "I did just now~"

"You...!" Nayun huffed and looked at Lee. "Leeee! You're corrupting the noble lady!"

"What?" Lee shrugged. "Rachel's smart. She would have figured it out eventually. Besides, I already know I made more than her from our kills."

Rachel looked over at Lee and said, "And how would you know that, Mister?"

"Because I burned close to fifty mana crystals flying all over the place killing things. I might not have the crazy clearing speed as Nayun here with her bow, but it's definitely more than you with just your rapier and a bit of wind magic."

Rachel puffed her cheeks. "...You could pretend to be modest."

"Nope. Girls get an inch and take a mile. Especially princesses."

Rachel rolled her eyes, although she didn't hide the smile on her face.

"Oh yeah!" Nayun pointed at Lee and said, "What was with that crazy thing you did in the Field? I thought you couldn't use magic!"

"I can't. But I can burn mana crystals to use my Gift. That's how I figured out I had a Gift in the first place."

At least, that's how Lee Shin figured it out.

Probably.

Rachel gave Lee a side eye and said, "...Why do I feel like you found out because you were doing something dangerous?"

Lee paused to think about it.

Then he got a vivid memory of smacking into a wall and breaking his nose after trying to replicate Li Shuwen's Divine Spear technique...

"...No comment."

Rachel sighed.

Lee smiled and took a look around.

Even though it was close to 10 PM, Wonju was still packed to the brim with Heroes and Mercenaries, as well as general tourists.

But despite the fact that it was still in Korea, and that this was definitely modern times...

'This place is TOTALLY an MMORPG hub.'

That was the only way Lee could describe it.

He'd caught a glimpse earlier, but since they were just passing through he hadn't paid too much attention.

But now that he was leisurely walking around with Rachel and Nayun, he had the time to check things out properly.

A proper blacksmith complete with furnace, a bearded man still working the forge this late, and clearly enchanted blades hung up for display.

An ACTUAL potion store with a guy who looked like a full-blown wizard... and a guy who was definitely dressing like that just for branding.

Then various shops that wouldn't be out of place from say Final Fantasy XIV or another MMO.

But there were also modern shops too, giving the place an eclectic feel. A sleek high-rise building with glass windows and doors showing off various enchanted jewelery... and then on the left and right of that, literal prop-up shops that looked like straight out of a bazaar complete with wooden signs and everything.

Nayun took a look around and hummed. "Was there anything in particular you wanted to get, Lee? You said you had a few things to pick up, right?"

Lee chuckled and looked at Rachel. "I do... but a certain someone here said she wanted to buy jewelry."

Rachel blushed. "I was joking! I'm not that vain!"

"Right, right." Lee nodded. "After all, you'll be inheriting the famous Imperial State Crown with over 2800 diamonds and even famous gems like the Black Prince's Ruby."

Rachel lightly punched Lee's arm and said, "How do you know so much about my country's history?! Aren't you American? Are you doing it just to tease me? Like in Post-Outcall History too!"

Nayun laughed. "Isn't it obvious, Rachel~? Our Lee is serious about you."

Rachel stumbled a bit, blushing.

Lee held her steady and said, "Careful now. You already fell for me, no need to do it again."

"LEE! Ugh!" Rachel huffed and lightly kicked his leg. "Stop teasing me! My cheeks hurt!"

"That just means you should smile more."

Nayun rolled her eyes. "Come on guys, if you want to flirt, you can do it Sunday AFTER I leave." She reached up to stretch, shifting the bow on her back. Then she said, "Hm... Is there even anything we can actually buy here? We can't bring it back to Cube with us even if we do, right?"

Rachel paused and tilted her head, as if mentally reviewing something. Then she nodded and said, "I believe so... Personal weapons and other enhancement artifacts are not allowed on campus."

Lee nodded. "Yep. But since we have Nayun over here, we can just store it at her dad's place in the meantime."

Nayun chuckled. "Wow. I see how it is. I'm just a resource to you, huh?"

"Call it tuition fee for helping you break the wall and get Enlightened..." Lee paused. "You did, right? Like, can you see the Status Screen and all now?"

"Yep!" Nayun gave Lee a thumbs up and said, "All thanks to that ridiculous show you put on the other day. Also, you were 100000% off base. The Comanche did NOT fire bows like that, dummy. And what you showed off was NOT point-shooting! It's the Indian shooting style."

Lee paused.

Rachel gasped. "Lee, *no.*" She giggled. "Don't tell me you got the Native Americans confused with ACTUAL Indians...!"

Lee's ears turned red and he said, "I forgot the details, okay? I'm not an archery buff. Besides." He coughed. "The skills were legit, so it doesn't matter if I misremembered the sources, right?"

Nayun laughed. "Wooow. Okay. DEFINITELY American. Also, not just your ancestors, but I bet the Founding Fathers are rolling in their graves too with how insensitive you are."

Lee shrugged. "Details, details..." He looked around the place and said, "But back to the earlier question... I'm looking for accessories. Cursed stuff, things that buff you, things like that."

Rachel frowned. "Cursed things? Why?"

Nayun rolled her eyes. "Because he has a death wish, obviously."

Rachel pursed her lips.

Lee shook his head and said, "Not that. I just have a special way of using them."

Nayun paused. "Wait a minute... Earlier you were flying all over the place. You said you used mana crystals for it... but you didn't have any on you when we came."

Rachel gasped. "Did you use the ones from the undead?!"

Lee gave a thumbs up. "Bingo- Owowow!"

Rachel pulled Lee's cheek and said, "You reckless, idiotic, suicidal guy...!"

Nayun jumped onto Lee's back to knuckle his head and said, "Are you ACTUALLY dumb?! Is this empty?! Undead mana will kill you in the long term, you idiot!"

Lee laughed and then brushed them both off. "I'm fine, promise. It's complicated to explain, but I can purify it. Kind of."

"Kind of?" Rachel still looked skeptical.

Lee placed his hand over his heart and said, "I swear on the American flag that I'm fine."

Nayun huffed. "You say that, but why do I feel like you don't mean it..."

Rachel pursed her lips. Then she said, "...Promise to get a check up when we go back to Cube on Sunday."

"Pinky promise." Lee stuck his right pinky out.

Rachel blushed but wrapped her pinky around Lee's. "...You promised."

Nayun butted in and wrapped her pinky around both Lee's and Rachel's and said, "Pinky promise, swallow a thousand needles and hope to die if you lie! No takebacks!"

Rachel laughed.

Lee did as well and said, "Fine, fine. I promise I'll-"

*BANG*

"LEE!"
