"I was never less of a man," he added, and I rolled my eyes.
"Of course you weren’t," I said, and Ryker moved toward me.
"I’ll do that. Go enjoy the festival," he said, and I paused.
I stared around, gazing at each of their faces before looking back at Azrael.
"Don’t worry, it’s okay," Liora spoke softly. "Go now, they will take care of him," she added, and I nodded gently.
I gave the bowl to Ryker, and Azrael scoffed. "Abandoning me already," he spat, and I laughed silently.
I moved closer to him and gently planted a soft kiss against his forehead. "Get well soon." He looked away and slapped my hand aside.
"Go enjoy the festival," he muttered, but at least he sounded less feral and angry now.
I walked out together with Bibi and Liora.
"What else is there to enjoy? I’m already worried, and I don’t think I’ll be able to have fun," I admitted, and Liora’s hand gently rested on my shoulder.
"Don’t feel guilty about having fun. Azrael gave you his blessing, so be happy," she said, and I pouted slightly.
....Easier said than done, I thought.
"Cat, where is Danny’s body, and why was he here too?" I asked.
Instead of appearing out of thin air like usual, Cat was actually walking toward me this time... but Liora immediately picked her up.
"So cute and chubby," she cooed softly while pinching her cheeks, but I was the only one who saw the displeased, sassy look Cat was giving Liora, and I burst out laughing.
"Such a little angel," I teased and watched as she rolled her eyes before turning toward me with a look that clearly screamed, Do you deal with this every day?
I ignored her attitude and carried her away from Liora.
"You must be hungry," I said while lifting her up and letting the sunlight hit her fur.
She just glared at me before resting back in my arms.
"Let’s see, what would you like to eat?" I asked while moving toward the tables, but she grumbled.
"Nothing," she spat, and I froze in my steps.
"Stop being so grumpy. You are obviously hungry," I said, and she laughed mockingly.
"Me? Hungry? Can you even hear yourself, Raven?" she snapped while folding her paws.
"His body dispersed into nothing when they tried checking it," she added, and I sighed in relief.
My brows suddenly furrowed in confusion, and my eyes shifted toward something unbelievable.
Wasn’t that Professor Caelum and Sonia? Their lips touched softly while Caelum’s hand rested against the back of her head.
"Oh my..." I gasped, my hands flying to my mouth while staring at them in shock.
When did that happen? No... when did all this happen? How fast were they moving? I wanted to ask questions, but all I could do was stare in confusion.
According to the novel, Caelum was mainly focused on his career. He even climbed to the very top and became the Empress’s most trusted engineer, but his ending was tragic... I remembered the last Chapter I had read before dying....He was assassinated, I wasn’t sure if that was truly the end though, since I never finished the novel.
"Hey, what are you staring at?" Bibi asked while tapping me, and I trembled slightly from being startled.
"What’s wrong?" she asked, and I placed a finger against my lips, gesturing for her to stay quiet.
She raised a brow. "What? Is there a surprise? I love surprises. My aunt always brings me thousan—"
I gently pointed ahead.
The second she looked, she gasped loudly and immediately grabbed my arm. "Oh my God. He’s a good kisser. How is he over thirty?" she whispered dramatically, and I laughed.
Liora moved closer and rested her chin on my shoulder.
"I have never seen Sonia this vulnerable during a kiss," she muttered, and I screamed internally, I didn’t even realize she had appeared beside me. She blew me a teasing kiss, but the couple seemed to notice they had been caught....They turned toward us, and all three of us forced awkward smiles.
Sonia’s eyes darkened as she licked her upper teeth slowly.
"Come join us," Caelum invited warmly.
I honestly wanted to run away because Sonia looked absolutely deadly, but Bibi and Liora pushed me forward with them.
"Raven, if we perish together, we perish together," Bibi whispered dramatically into my ear, and my heartbeat sped up instantly.
Caelum was roasting marshmallows while we sat down beside each other. Sonia quietly ate one while glaring at us suspiciously.
I tilted my head upward and admired the sky....The galaxy looked unbelievably beautiful tonight, just then, Liora gently nudged my elbow.
"Huh?" I asked, and she handed me roasted marshmallows together with a cup of hot cocoa.
I accepted them and took a careful sip, it tasted perfect..not too sweet.
Then suddenly, Sonia stood up and dragged Caelum with her, he stared down at her confused.
"What are we doing?" he asked cluelessly, and my lips parted.
"Professor Caelum, what type of beastman are you?" I suddenly asked, and everyone froze instantly.
"That was completely out of line," Sonia snapped, and I rolled my eyes before turning back toward Caelum.
"Why do you ask?" he questioned calmly.
"I’m just curious. I’ve never seen you show your beastman side before, even though I know you’re from fallen royalty," I said before pausing awkwardly.
Oops. I had definitely said too much.
"Fallen royalty?" Bibi repeated slowly.
I watched her eyes darken slightly, as if she was remembering something from long ago, even Caelum looked away while trying to appear casual.
Did I accidentally hit a sensitive topic?
"Asking unnecessary questions isn’t needed right now, Raven. You’re ruining things for everyone," Sonia snapped harshly, and I stood up immediately.
"Ruining things? I was just asking a harmless question. Even Professor Caelum doesn’t seem as worked up as you do," I snapped back.
Sonia gritted her teeth and stepped forward, but then...
"Professor Caelum, did you reject the throne so my aunt could ascend it instead?" Bibi suddenly asked.
