Wu Yun stayed in Modu until November 12th.

After Singles’ Day ended, Pinduoduo’s numbers saw explosive growth.

The number of registered users soared to 12 million, with the transaction volume on Singles’ Day alone reaching 550 million. From the app’s launch until the end of Singles’ Day, the cumulative transaction volume hit 890 million.

These numbers might have been just a fraction of what Taobao and Jingdong were doing, but for Pinduoduo, it was already a success.

Pinduoduo had also burned through 30 million in funding over the past few days.

The plan for the near future was to run promotions every day to stimulate user growth. They would lay low and build up their strength. In Wu Yun’s opinion, Pinduoduo had a real shot at becoming the third major player in the e-commerce space.

....

The next morning, Wu Yun and Wei Wu flew to Capital City.

This time, Wu Yun didn’t have the company send anyone for airport pickup. Instead, he arranged for the hotel’s shuttle service. He did, however, have someone from the company drop off a car at the hotel beforehand to use for getting around Capital City.

With the spending rebate system, Wu Yun considered buying a house in Capital City.

Compared to traditional courtyard homes, Wu Yun much preferred modern villas and spacious, single-floor apartments.

Of course, the first order of business in Capital City wasn’t buying a house—it was surprising Bai Yue.

He had Wei Wu drive directly to the main gate of Capital City Normal University.

Watching the students ride red and yellow bike-shares in and out of the gate, Wu Yun found himself in a bit of a bind. He had no idea where Bai Yue’s classroom was.

At universities nowadays, classes were held in different rooms, so students didn’t have a single, fixed classroom.

So Wu Yun came up with a plan. He called Bai Yue, and she picked up almost immediately. "Ah Yun, what’s up? Not busy today?"

Bai Yue found this a bit strange. Wu Yun usually called or video-chatted with her in the evening or late afternoon. In the afternoon, she was usually in class or at the student office.

"Bai Yue, I bought you something and had it sent to your school’s east gate! I put down my number, and the courier just called to say it’s there. Do you have time to go pick it up?" Wu Yun said with a straight face.

Bai Yue didn’t suspect a thing and asked curiously, "What did you buy me?"

Of course, Wu Yun couldn’t say it was *him*, so he just teased her, telling her to guess or to just go and see for herself.

Seeing how mysterious Wu Yun was being, Bai Yue pretended to be annoyed. "Fine, don’t tell me! I’m going right now to see what it is. But if it’s just one of those typical, uninspired gifts that a clueless guy thinks will impress his girlfriend, you’re dead meat!"

Wu Yun chuckled. "I guarantee you’ll be satisfied! Gotta go, I’ll tell the courier to call you!"

After hanging up, Wu Yun turned to Wei Wu in the driver’s seat. "Wei Wu, I need you to do me a favor in a minute! Here’s what I need you to do..."

After instructing Wei Wu on how to play the part of the courier, Wu Yun sat in the car, eyes fixed on the school gate, waiting for Bai Yue to appear.

Five minutes later, two figures on Little Yellow Cars appeared in Wu Yun’s line of sight.

Bai Yue was wearing a long, brown sweater dress. Below it, her black leggings and boots were visible from the knees down, giving her a very elegant look.

The girl next to her was probably her roommate. To the average person, she would be considered pretty, but according to the scan from Wu Yun’s glasses, she was only an 80.

Name: Lei Lei 80/80/90.

After getting off her bike, Bai Yue looked around but didn’t see the delivery van she was expecting. She was just about to pull out her phone to call when it started ringing.

She glanced at the screen and saw it was a number from Rongcheng, Sichuan.

"Hello?"

"Hello, is this Miss Bai?"

Bai Yue replied, "Yes, it is."

Wei Wu’s deep voice came through the phone. "Hello, Miss Bai. Someone sent you a package... it’s about the size of a person, and it’s wrapped up like a life-sized doll. The label says ’Confidential Delivery’."

"I’m waiting for you by my vehicle now."

As he spoke, Bai Yue spotted a tall, powerfully built man waving at her from beside a black Mercedes-Benz.

Seeing this, Bai Yue hesitated for a moment. ’This delivery company must be loaded!’ Choosing to trust Wu Yun, however, she immediately pulled Lei Lei along and walked toward the Mercedes.

Wei Wu stood by the driver’s side door with his hands clasped, wearing sunglasses. Bai Yue felt he looked less like a courier and more like a bodyguard.

Looking up at the powerfully built man who was a full head taller than her, Bai Yue mustered her courage. "Hi! I’m here for my package."

Wei Wu managed a smile. "Miss Bai, please come with me."

With that, he led the way to the back of the car.

Once Bai Yue and Lei Lei were standing nearby, Wei Wu opened the trunk, revealing... a clothed doll curled up inside?

A large bouquet of roses blocked the view, so Bai Yue couldn’t see the doll’s face.

"These are the roses Mr. Wu ordered for you. The other thing is your package."

Bai Yue’s eyes lit up at the sight of the roses. She stepped forward and took hold of the bouquet, and as she lifted it away, she saw Wu Yun’s brilliant smile right behind it.

"Surprise!"

Bai Yue was so startled her hands trembled. Then, she laughed and scolded him, "You scared me to death! This isn’t a surprise, it’s a shock!"

As she said this, her eyes reddened. She held the flowers in one arm and covered her mouth with her free hand.

Wu Yun quickly scrambled out of the trunk.

Wiping a tear from her cheek, Wu Yun smiled. "And you said it wasn’t a surprise. Look at you, crying tears of joy! There, there. Don’t cry."

But Bai Yue just threw herself into his arms and burst into tears. "SOB... It’s been over a month! You’re finally in Capital City! If you didn’t video chat with me every day, I would’ve thought you’d found someone else!"

Wu Yun patted her back comfortingly. "How could I ever forget you? I’ve just been really busy lately. The new company’s app just went live, and as the chairman, I had to be there on the front lines."

"I’m not attending classes anymore! From now on, I can come to Capital City to see you anytime."

Bai Yue lifted her head, her eyes still red, and looked at him. "Really? I thought you were just kidding last time."

Wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes, he said with a smile, "I talked to the dean. I don’t have to attend classes, I just need to show up for the final exams. As a model entrepreneur, getting the diploma is pretty much guaranteed."

"Okay, okay. Your roommate is still watching! Aren’t you going to introduce us?"

Blushing, Bai Yue pulled away from his embrace and brought Lei Lei over. "This is my roommate, Lei Lei!"

"And this is the heartbreaker, Wu Yun, that I’m always telling you about!"

Of course, Lei Lei didn’t play along. She smiled and greeted Wu Yun, "Hello! Witch Commander! Yueyue is constantly chattering in my ear, ’How’s my Ah Yun this,’ and ’My Ah Yun that!’"

"My ears are about to fall off from hearing it all the time! Now I finally get to see you in person. You really are handsome! No wonder our beautiful Yueyue is so head over heels for you."

Wu Yun thought, ’This Lei Lei really knows how to talk.’ He smiled and said, "Thank you for taking such good care of Bai Yue."

Wu Yun turned to Bai Yue. "Since I’m here, why don’t you call all your roommates? Lunch is on me!"
