Rebirth: I have Monopoly System

Chapter 235: The Big Shots at Xiaomage’s Banquet

Peng Zhijian finished his call, having arranged the audit for Little Red Car.

He then smiled at Wu Yun and said, "President Wu, soon enough, we’ll be family!"

Wu Yun remarked with genuine feeling, "Now that you’re on board, things are about to get tough for Little Yellow Car and Mobike!"

Wu Yun had previously told Peng Zhijian that he would allow Tencent to invest, but only on the condition that Little Red Car be integrated into WeChat—specifically, on the "Me" tab.

Wu Yun was confident that with the boost from WeChat, the number of registered users would see a period of explosive growth.

The two chatted a bit more about the future of the shared-bike industry before returning to their respective rooms.

Since all the hotels in Wuzhen were catering to the World Internet Conference, Xiaomage’s evening banquet was being held in Tongxiang City.

Wu Yun planned to head to Tongxiang City with Peng Zhijian shortly.

...

Lying on the soft, large bed, Wu Yun felt a little strange.

Ever since his rebirth, the spot next to him had rarely been empty. Suddenly having to sleep in a bed all by himself felt genuinely awkward, as if something was missing.

However, Wu Yun wasn’t so dense. ’It’s best to be serious on such an important occasion.’

Since he had nothing better to do, Wu Yun decided to video call Wen Meng.

Wen Meng answered quickly.

A sight that made his blood race filled Wu Yun’s vision. Wen Meng was in a sports bra, her face flushed as she looked at the screen. "What is it? Miss me already? We just video-called last night!"

After speaking, Wen Meng propped her phone up on the left side of her yoga mat, giving Wu Yun a clear view of her entire figure.

"Of course, I miss you! I’ll be back in a couple of days," Wu Yun said, watching Wen Meng flow between Upward and Downward-Facing Dog.

Finishing the pose, Wen Meng said, panting slightly, "Oh, right, I forgot to tell you! Lai Yi and Liu Yongheng want to go to Kangding for a couple of days this weekend. They invited us to come along—everyone from both our dorms."

Wu Yun read between the lines. Liu Yongheng and Lai Yi had been getting hot and heavy lately. The experienced Lai Yi was letting Liu Yongheng thoroughly enjoy the feeling of being doted on by an older woman.

"Are they official?" Wu Yun asked.

"Yep! Just yesterday. Lai Yi was the one who confessed!" Wen Meng said, switching to the next pose as she spoke.

As the saying goes, a man pursued by a woman is separated only by a thin veil of gauze. After all the groundwork Lai Yi had laid, Liu Yongheng quickly succumbed to her gentle charms.

Wu Yun nodded. "Alright, I’m free this weekend, so let’s go. You can get back to your workout. I’m going to get some sleep. A big shot is treating me to dinner tonight!"

Afterwards, Wu Yun tried video-calling Qi Fei and Bai Yue, but they both declined. A moment later, he received messages from them.

"In class!"

...

Watching the scenery recede outside the window, Wu Yun asked, "President Peng, who all will be there tonight?"

Peng Zhijian mentally ran through the list before replying, "They’re all heads of companies that Tencent has either invested in or is currently in talks with. Since we were all invited here for the conference, President Ma thought it would be a good chance for everyone to get together."

A list of the internet companies Tencent had invested in during 2014 immediately surfaced in Wu Yun’s mind: DiDi, Jingdong, Tongcheng Travel Network, Dianping, 58.com, and other smaller internet enterprises that would later fade into obscurity.

As he mentally sifted through Tencent’s history, the sheer scale of it was staggering. In 2014 alone, Tencent had spent nearly 8 billion US dollars on external investments.

This included an investment with widespread impact—Sinopec—and even the System’s detailed files didn’t specify the exact amount.

Wu Yun and Peng Zhijian were dropped off at the entrance of what looked like a five-star hotel.

Peng Zhijian asked an attendant, "Hello, where is the Peony Hall?"

"Sir, please follow me!"

The attendant led them to an elevator, selected the fourth floor, and soon brought them to a private dining room.

A large round table, big enough to seat about ten people, was set up inside the room.

Five people were already seated inside, deep in conversation. When Wu Yun and Peng Zhijian entered, they all stopped talking and looked toward the door.

"President Peng! Long time no see!" A man wearing rimless glasses stood up and said with a smile.

"President Cheng, they must be feeding you well at DiDi! You’ve put on some weight again, haven’t you?" Peng Zhijian said with a friendly laugh, subtly giving Wu Yun a hint about the man’s identity.

The other four people also stood up to say hello. Everyone knew Peng Zhijian; after all, he was often the face of Tencent for major financing deals.

"Come, everyone! Let me introduce you to a future titan of the industry: President Wu Yun of Little Red Car!" Peng Zhijian announced, introducing Wu Yun to the group.

"This is Cheng Wei from DiDi," Peng Zhijian said, indicating the man with the rimless glasses who had spoken first. "In the mobility space, you two are running in different lanes."

"This is President Li of Star Creator Interconnect. It’s a gaming company, and since President Wu also has a mobile game company, you two should have plenty to discuss."

Hearing Peng Zhijian’s introduction, Li Bo gave Wu Yun a surprised look, then smiled and nodded in acknowledgment.

Next, Peng Zhijian pointed to a man in the middle who was slightly balding and wore glasses. "And this is President Wu Zhixiang of Tongcheng Travel Network."

Peng Zhijian then introduced Yao Jinbo of 58.com and Zhang Tao of Dianping.

Wu Yun noticed something: the internet tycoons were generally quite young. Very few were from Old Ma’s generation; most were born in the 70s and 80s.

All five men were intrigued by Wu Yun.

Cheng Wei said with a laugh, "I’ve heard thunderous things about Little Red Car, but I never expected President Wu to be so young! It seems you kids from the 90s are determined to leave us old-timers dead on the beach!"

The others chuckled in agreement.

Peng Zhijian watched the scene with a smile. ’Sometimes, you don’t just invest in the company; you invest in the person.’

Wu Yun replied with a sincere expression, "You’re too kind, President Cheng. The internet industry still relies on pillars like you. I’ve just been a bit lucky."

Peng Zhijian cut in, "Don’t you believe a word of that ’just lucky’ nonsense. Luck is only part of it. The most important factor is that President Wu’s own pockets are incredibly deep!"

Peng Zhijian’s words immediately piqued everyone’s interest. In their own early startup days, few of them had been wealthy; most had to tighten their belts just to get by.

Peng Zhijian declared with mock indignation, "All of President Wu’s companies—and I mean all of them—skipped the angel round entirely! A couple of them even have registered capital in the hundreds of millions. The man is a bona fide land baron!"

The information Peng Zhijian shared was all publicly verifiable, so he didn’t hesitate to say it out loud.

Hearing Peng Zhijian’s words, their estimation of Wu Yun instantly rose by several notches. While most assumed his immense resources came from his family, there was no denying that in the internet industry, he was a formidable new player shaking things up.

Wu Yun knew Peng Zhijian was helping him, ensuring these old foxes wouldn’t look down on him because of his age.
