"Boss! We’ll each have a bowl of liangfen and a bowl of liangmian!" Liu Yongheng saw the small bowls laid out in the shop and figured one dish wouldn’t be enough, so he ordered a serving of each for everyone.

Liu Yongheng was about to turn around when he remembered the chili peppers. He called out loudly to the owner, "Boss, make mine extra spicy!"

The owner, who was busy preparing seasonings, stopped what he was doing. He looked at the young man from out of province with some surprise and said, "Son, can you handle it? Our chili peppers are famous around here!"

Liu Yongheng said nonchalantly, "No problem! Go ahead and add as much as you want, boss. I can take it!"

Having been in Sichuan for so long, Liu Yongheng felt his spice resistance had been maxed out. He didn’t pay the owner’s words any mind.

Seeing his insistence, the owner didn’t say anything more. Besides, they had ordered a lot, so if he couldn’t finish it, he could eat something else.

Liu Yongheng had just sat back down when a server came over carrying a large, stainless steel tray.

"Here you go! Eight bowls of liangfen, eight bowls of liangmian! These two are the extra spicy ones!"

The server placed the liangfen and liangmian, which were in disposable bowls, on the large round table, then put the last two bowls—one liangfen and one liangmian—in front of Liu Yongheng.

"Honey! Are you really going to eat the extra spicy? I was just kidding, don’t eat it! Your stomach will hurt later!" Seeing that Liu Yongheng was dead set on challenging the extra spicy stuff, Lai Yi quickly tried to stop him.

Wu Yun had originally wanted to watch the show, but after a moment’s thought, he said, "Yongheng, swap your liangmian with mine. I like spicy food!"

Liu Yongheng wasn’t convinced. "Boss! No need! I’ve been eating hot pot at school lately, and even the pure red-oil broth just tastes mildly spicy to me!"

Seeing Liu Yongheng’s stubbornness, Li Shiming scoffed, "If you can finish that bowl of liangfen, I’ll eat this bowl of liangmian... while doing a handstand!"

Li Shiming had originally wanted to say he’d eat shit while doing a handstand, but realizing it wasn’t the right time or place, he changed his wording.

Goaded by Li Shiming’s challenge, Liu Yongheng grabbed his disposable chopsticks and evenly mixed the bright red chili peppers and oil into his liangfen.

"Watch this!" Liu Yongheng picked up a piece of liangfen covered in chili flakes and dripping with red oil, and stuffed it into his mouth in one go.

Seven pairs of eyes stared quietly, waiting for Liu Yongheng’s reaction.

Sure enough, after just a few chews, Liu Yongheng let out a "WAAAGH!" and spat the entire mouthful of liangfen into the trash can.

"Water! Water! HISS... Quick, quick! Get me some water! I’m dying!" Liu Yongheng howled, fanning his mouth with his hand.

Lai Yi quickly handed Liu Yongheng the bottle of mineral water she had nearby.

He twisted off the cap and, in a few gulps, chugged the entire bottle.

Li Shiming burst out laughing. "All talk and no bite! When it comes to eating spicy food, you have to watch us Sichuan people. Watch me!"

Li Shiming picked a piece of liangfen from Liu Yongheng’s bowl, put it in his mouth, and also swallowed after just a few chews.

"Water! Water!" Li Shiming grabbed his own bottle of water and took a swig. Only then did he recover, sucking in a sharp breath of air. "Whoa, that really is extra spicy! No way I could eat that!"

The onlookers all burst out laughing, teasingly offering to pay Li Shiming to finish the bowl of liangfen.

Of course, Li Shiming wouldn’t agree for anything in the world. His life was more important!

Wu Yun chuckled. "When it comes to spicy food, all of you here are scrubs!"

After speaking, Wu Yun took the untouched bowl of liangmian from in front of Liu Yongheng, mixed it evenly with his chopsticks, and started eating it in big mouthfuls.

Liu Yongheng, still sucking in breaths of cool air, stared dumbfounded as Wu Yun finished off the bright red bowl of liangmian in just a few bites.

"Meng Meng! Your Wu Yun can really handle his spice!" Chang Yuanyuan said, her own mouth watering like crazy just from looking at the bowl of liangmian.

Wen Meng wasn’t worried about Wu Yun at all. After all, when Wu Yun ate hot pot with her mom, he would still dip his food in dry chili flakes.

What Wen Meng couldn’t figure out, however, was how Wu Yun could eat so much spicy food and never get pimples.

Wu Yun put down the empty bowl, took the tissue Wen Meng handed him to wipe his nose, and cleaned his mouth as well. Then he grinned, "Hiss... These peppers definitely have a kick! But they’re still not as spicy as the Mute Rabbit in Jingyang!"

"The liangmian tastes pretty good, though! Don’t just stare at me! Dig in!"

Even though the portions of liangfen and liangmian were small, they were so good you couldn’t help but want another bowl after finishing one.

No wonder the liangfen and liangmian here were so highly recommended online.

For a while, the only sounds were of slurping noodles and sharp intakes of breath. Even the standard-level spiciness was enough to make the mouths of those who couldn’t handle spice feel swollen.

After finishing his portion, Wu Yun still wasn’t satisfied. He called out to the shop owner, "Boss! Another liangmian for me! With extra chili!"

Because they had an early lunch, it was only just twelve o’clock by the time they slowly finished eating.

Wu Yun pulled Wen Meng along as he walked ahead. "Let’s go! While all the tourists are off having lunch, the road is clear! Let’s get moving! We can rest when we get to Kangding!"

But who would have thought, after just a few steps, Liu Yongheng was already clutching his stomach. "Boss! I can’t hold it! I need the bathroom! My stomach hurts!"

Wu Yun glanced at the roadside shops but didn’t see a public restroom. He asked, "Can you hold it? There’s a public restroom at the parking lot."

When Liu Yongheng heard that, he felt like he could die. He could feel goosebumps breaking out all over and the hairs on his body standing on end.

"I can’t! Wait for me!" With that, he ran back toward the restaurant where they had just eaten.

Li Shiming roared with laughter, chasing after Liu Yongheng while whistling in his ear.

"Yongheng, you gotta hold it! Pss pss pss~"

Liu Yongheng gritted his teeth, his forehead beaded with sweat. He shot Li Shiming a fierce glare and ran even faster into the restaurant.

Only after Liu Yongheng emerged from the shop looking utterly relieved did the group start walking toward the parking lot.

This time, the group didn’t get back on the expressway, instead following the national highway heading west.

Watching the snow-capped peaks that occasionally flashed by amid the endless mountain ranges, set against the blue sky and white clouds, everyone felt their spirits soar.

They drove on and off, stopping at spacious pull-offs to take a few touristy photos before getting back on the road.

It wasn’t until three in the afternoon that the two G63s pulled into parking spots at the hotel.

A road trip with a rushed itinerary is bound to be exhausting. Combined with their early start that morning, after arriving at the hotel and checking into their rooms, everyone, aside from the monstrously energetic Wu Yun, collapsed onto their beds, not wanting to move an inch.

Seeing this, Wu Yun couldn’t very well suggest going out to explore. Instead, he sent a message to the group chat: "Everyone get some rest, take a nap! We’ll go explore Kangding tonight after dinner!"

Putting down his phone, Wu Yun began to walk around the room, constantly looking and searching for something.

Wen Meng asked, confused, "Junior, what are you looking for?"

With a serious expression, Wu Yun replied without turning his head, "I’m checking for hidden cameras."

Wen Meng grinned. "Junior," she said playfully, "Aren’t you afraid of getting altitude sickness if you... ’exercise’ at this altitude?"
