Rebirth: I have Monopoly System
Chapter 328 - 318: Returning to School, Donation Politely DeclinedWu Yun smiled and said, "It’s nothing, I just came back to have a look! After all, I’m still a student here at Sichuan Normal University!"
"Since Principal Xia is also here, I have an idea."
Wang Xuanmin looked intrigued and asked, "Wu Yun, please, go ahead!"
At his side, Xia Wenwu also nodded in agreement.
"It’s like this. A while ago, I made a donation and established a fund. Back then, I thought about donating ten million to the university to support its teaching and provide student scholarships."
Xia Wenwu and Wang Xuanmin both looked excited when they heard this. But after they exchanged a glance, Xia Wenwu said, "Old Wang, you should be the one to say it."
Wang Xuanmin nodded. "Wu Yun, donating to the university is a wonderful gesture, but we’re worried that a donation this large might affect your company’s operations."
"To be honest, back when you donated for the earthquake relief, some people wanted to ask if you were going to donate to the school."
"Principal Xia and I were strongly against that idea. We can’t do something so shortsighted as draining the pond to catch the fish. Your success is more valuable to the university than any donation!"
After all, ten million was not a small sum.
Wu Yun smiled and said, "Principal Xia, Dean Wang, thank you for your concern. But making a donation to the university now won’t affect my company’s cash flow."
Xia Wenwu pondered for a moment before saying, "Wu Yun, since you’re set on donating, we won’t stand in your way. But we need to time it right. It’s the end of the semester, so your donation won’t have a huge impact. Many students have already gone home, and they’ll just feel it doesn’t concern them."
Wang Xuanmin nodded in agreement. "Exactly. If you’re going to donate, how about doing it at the start of next semester, or during the freshman orientation? We were actually just discussing inviting you to speak as the student representative at the orientation!"
The university wasn’t short on money; what it lacked were famous alumni to build up the school’s reputation.
Of course, not being short on money didn’t mean they didn’t need money. With the funds donated by Wu Yun, the school could bring in excellent teaching resources to improve the quality of its education.
It could be said that the donation was truly a win-win situation.
Wu Yun considered this and didn’t insist further. He smiled and said, "Principal Xia, Dean Wang, in that case, I’ll wait until the new semester starts to make the donation. As for speaking as the student representative, isn’t that a bit inappropriate? The university has so many other outstanding alumni."
"How is it inappropriate? You’re still an enrolled student! It’s only natural for you to be the student representative!" Dean Wang explained with a chuckle.
Afterward, the three of them chatted for another half hour about student employment issues before Wu Yun finally left the dean’s office.
The gift in his pocket, however, remained ungiven.
Only after Wu Yun had walked some distance away did Xia Wenwu ask, "Old Wang, what do you think of Wu Yun?"
Wang Xuanmin took a sip of hot tea, then sighed. "His potential is limitless. He’s going to be a source of great pride for us in the future."
...
After leaving the dean’s office, Wu Yun checked the time. It was already 5:00 p.m. For the last exam, those who finished quickly had probably already turned in their papers and bolted.
Wu Yun first sent a message to his dorm’s group chat. When no one responded, he drove toward the examination classroom.
Soon, Wu Yun found the classroom from memory. Peeking through the small window on the back door, Wu Yun spotted the backs of Liu Yongheng and the other two.
Because seating was assigned by student ID number, the three of them were sitting far apart.
He watched as Li Shiming, seizing the moment the proctor turned away, craned his neck to peek at the exam paper of a girl in front of him. His hand was a blur, and with a few quick strokes, he filled in the answers to the multiple-choice questions he’d missed.
Li Shiming stood up, took his exam paper, and walked toward the podium. Along the way, he met Liu Yongheng’s gaze and shot him a triumphant look.
Liu Yongheng scratched his head in frustration. Seeing Li Shiming distracting the teacher, he took the opportunity to turn his head and look at the paper of the student behind him.
"Hey! You there, no looking around! Keep your eyes on your own paper."
Liu Yongheng awkwardly turned back, but his hand moved quickly, writing the answer he had just seen onto his paper.
It had to be said, the leniency of university final exams was really something else. As long as you weren’t caught red-handed with a cheat sheet or blatantly flipping through a textbook, the teachers would basically leave you alone.
As soon as Li Shiming stepped out, he spotted Wu Yun peeking through the back door.
"Boss! I missed you like crazy!" a shrill voice rang out as Li Shiming started wiggling his way over, about to pounce on Wu Yun.
"Get lost!" Wu Yun aimed a light kick at Li Shiming’s stomach. Li Shiming dodged it, but it was enough to halt his advance.
Just then, some girls from other classes who had finished their exams were passing by. When they saw Wu Yun’s face, they all looked surprised, then left the exam area, talking quietly amongst themselves.
Wu Yun and Li Shiming leaned against the windowsill, chatting about school gossip as they waited for Liu Yongheng and their other roommate to come out.
Just then, a pleasant, somewhat familiar voice sounded from behind Wu Yun. "Wu Yun, long time no see!"
The two of them turned around to see a beautiful girl wearing a short skirt and tights in the cold wind, with a short down jacket on top.
"Hello! Zhang Qiuyue!" Wu Yun’s memory was still very good, and he quickly recalled the girl’s name.
Zhang Qiuyue looked at him reproachfully. "Wu Yun, I sent you so many messages. Why didn’t you reply?"
Wu Yun froze, suddenly remembering that he had indeed added Zhang Qiuyue on WeChat, but it was on his old phone.
The unread messages on that phone had long ago hit 99+. Wu Yun only browsed through them when he had a rare free moment.
Zhang Qiuyue’s messages had probably been buried long ago.
"Uh! Sorry! I’ve been really busy! My secretary holds on to my phone most of the time."
Seeing this, Wu Yun became even more determined not to reveal his personal number or WeChat account. He had already warned Liu Yongheng and his other friends not to give out his private WeChat. If someone asked for his contact info and they couldn’t get out of it, they were supposed to just give out his old number.
Wu Yun didn’t want to get too involved with certain people, lest he find himself unable to shake them off and end up in a world of trouble.
Zhang Qiuyue smiled gently. "Wu Yun, it must be fate that we ran into each other. I was wondering if you’re free? I’d like to treat you to a meal."
Li Shiming looked at Wu Yun with envy. Everywhere he went, women threw themselves at him.
’If I let her treat me to a meal,’ Wu Yun thought, ’she’ll expect to ’eat’ me in return! I can’t fall for this trap!’
"Ah, sorry, Zhang Qiuyue, but I already have plans. Tonight I’m having dinner with my roommates and my girlfriend’s roommates."
"How about this! I have your WeChat anyway. I’ll contact you when I’m free!"
The Huaxia language was truly an art. "I’ll contact you when I’m free" usually meant "I’ll never be free."
After all, Zhang Qiuyue was just a freshman. She wasn’t as thick-skinned as some old pro, and with her classmates watching, she took the graceful exit Wu Yun had offered. "Alright! I’ll be waiting for your message, then, Wu Yun. Enjoy your dinner tonight! I’m heading off!"
As Zhang Qiuyue spoke, she raised the phone in her left hand, showing off a sparkling crystal bracelet on her wrist that was quite conspicuous.
Watching Zhang Qiuyue and her friends leave, Li Shiming said enviously, "It’s always the same story: the flooded drown while the parched die of thirst. When is a loser like me ever going to find a girlfriend? When pigs fly?"
"My standards aren’t high! Seriously, she just has to be female!" Li Shiming grumbled.
That sentence immediately reminded Wu Yun of something that had happened in their group chat recently. Liu Yongheng had posted a photo he’d taken of Li Shiming talking face-to-face with another guy. In the picture, the guy was looking at Li Shiming like he was the love of his life.
Wu Yun immediately laughed. "Didn’t someone ask for your WeChat!?"
Li Shiming’s expression changed, and his voice became even more shrill with anger. "What the fuck! Don’t you dare bring that up again! I’m a real man, okay?! A real man!"
The front door of the classroom opened, and the proctor poked his head out, slightly annoyed. "Hey, hey, hey! If you two are going to make a scene, do it somewhere else! There’s an exam going on in here!"
