Rebirth: I have Monopoly System

Chapter 344 - 328: Twisted Silk Bracelet, Paying a Visit

A beautiful, curvaceous sales associate nearby sneered, "Xie Ling, your standards are as high as ever! Is Li Xiaofei just not good enough for you? Or can you not see that elegant beauty next to President Wu?"

"Do you think you can compare to that woman? Who do you think would be willing to spend two million on a piece of jewelry for you!?" The sales associate speaking clearly disapproved of Xie Ling’s usual behavior. Not only was she stringing along a suitor, but she was also constantly on the lookout for big-spending customers.

The sales associate held back a thought: ’Besides being a little pretty, what else do you have to be proud of? It’s not like you’re a virgin! Is that thing between your legs plated in gold or something?’

Xie Ling’s brow furrowed, and she was about to retort when the older sales associate stepped in. "Alright, alright! That’s enough from everyone! Let’s be happy! Xiaoxian closed a huge sale, which means we get a bonus too!"

....

Before long, Wu Yun’s phone rang, displaying an incoming call from Wei Wu.

After Wei Wu reported their location, Wu Yun hung up and stood. "Let’s go! The car is here!"

The store manager and the sales associate, Xiaoxian, who had been chatting with them, immediately stood up as well. The manager smiled. "Mr. Wu, we’ll see you out!"

....

「February 16, 2015. The 28th day of the twelfth lunar month.」

According to the customs in Jingyang, many families had already begun their New Year celebrations. In fact, some had started their "New Year’s holiday" of nonstop feasting and drinking as early as the twenty-fifth of the twelfth lunar month.

Children looked forward to the New Year, but many adults felt differently. They would rather have the National Day holiday than the big New Year celebration.

At some point, the New Year had become synonymous with comparison-fueled competition, huge expenses, and blind dates for adults.

Although Wu Yun hadn’t experienced it in his past life, he had heard his friends and colleagues complain on more than one occasion about how much lucky money they had to give out, or how their families had arranged a blind date for them with so-and-so.

They had bought so many New Year’s goods that the trunks of the two Mercedes-Benz SUVs were stuffed full, and even the trunk of the Rolls-Royce was more than half-filled.

Compared to a provincial capital like Rongcheng, a smaller city like Jingyang had a much stronger festive atmosphere. At the very least, you could occasionally hear the sound of firecrackers in designated areas.

As the convoy entered the street near Wu Yun’s old home, Wu Yun directed Hawkeye to pull over and park in a spot by the side of the road.

"You all wait for me here!"

With that, Wu Yun took Qi Fei by the hand and got out of the car.

"So your home is in Building 102!" Qi Fei said with a smile, linking her arm with Wu Yun’s as they walked down the familiar street, completely unfazed by the stares of onlookers.

"I can’t believe we used to be so close! I came here all the time for hot pot skewers. Xiaoyunzi, did you know there’s a food stall near the elementary school up ahead that makes amazing stir-fry!"

As they passed a few low-fronted shops, Qi Fei pointed excitedly. "Three-in-One! Their dry pot is pretty good! It’s cheap and you get a lot for your money! I used to come here with my classmates for meals all the time back in school!"

Qi Fei seemed to grow more talkative upon arriving on this narrow street, which was so full of life.

Wu Yun glanced at Qi Fei in surprise and said with a smile, "I never thought you’d eat at places like this! I figured a rich beauty like you would only go to high-end restaurants, even back in school. And that if you were slumming it for dry pot, you’d at least go there!" As he spoke, Wu Yun pointed to the Yongji Dry Pot sign behind them.

"What do you take me for! I’m not some spoiled princess. Besides, I didn’t have many friends in school to begin with. If I acted all high and mighty, I would’ve had no one to hang out with at all!" Qi Fei slipped her small, cold hand into Wu Yun’s coat pocket and gently pinched the soft flesh of his waist through the fabric.

"Alright! I admit it, you’re very down-to-earth!"

Standing at the entrance to the old residential complex, he saw it was decorated with festive lights and banners. Two large red lanterns were already hanging high up, and a pair of obviously handwritten couplets were pasted on either side of the gate.

Wu Yun suddenly felt the poignant sense of returning home in glory, only to find that while the place was the same, the people were gone. After a brief pause, he led Qi Fei into the complex, nodding a greeting to the old guard at the gate.

As the two of them were heading up the stairs, they met an elderly woman in her sixties with graying hair, who was holding the handrail as she came down.

The old woman’s eyes widened in surprise when she saw Wu Yun. "Isn’t this the Wu family’s Wu Yun! It’s been so long! You’ve gotten so handsome!"

A genuine smile spread across Wu Yun’s face as he stopped with Qi Fei. "Granny Wang! Happy New Year!"

The old woman smiled and nodded, her curious gaze falling on the prettily dressed Qi Fei beside Wu Yun. "Ah, Xiaowu! I see you went off to college and found yourself a girlfriend! This young lady is just beautiful!"

Qi Fei chuckled. "Granny Wang! You’re too kind!"

Wu Yun then introduced Qi Fei to the old woman by name, and in turn explained to Qi Fei that this was the kind granny who had helped him so much during his family’s wake.

The old woman seemed to forget what she had been doing and stood on the stairs, making small talk with Wu Yun. "Xiaowu, you brought Xiaoqi back today to pay respects to your grandparents, I assume! It’s about time! You haven’t been back in so long!"

Wu Yun sighed. "It’s mainly because we’re both very busy, and we’re based in another city now."

The old woman, assuming Wu Yun meant he was busy with his studies, encouraged him to study hard before saying, "Well, I won’t keep you! I need to go buy a bottle of soy sauce. I’m making braised pork belly for lunch! Would you two like to join us?"

Wu Yun naturally declined the polite offer.

"Alright! You two take your time! Oh, Xiaowu! When you get married, don’t forget to invite this old lady!"

...

CREAK~ Wu Yun pulled open the door, which hadn’t been opened in a long time. The air was thick with the smell of dust.

Qi Fei frowned slightly at the smell, but then, not minding the dust, she helped Wu Yun open some windows to air the place out.

Qi Fei was about to grab a rag to help Wu Yun dust, but he stopped her. "Hey, you don’t have to bother with that! I’ll just wipe my grandparents’ photo frames. Come with me! We’ll offer a couple of incense sticks and then head to your place."

"My grandparents definitely won’t blame us. In fact, they’ll be happy for me for finding such a beautiful girlfriend."

In this solemn environment, Qi Fei didn’t dare joke around. She just properly took the three incense sticks Wu Yun had lit, performed a deep bow toward the portraits of his grandparents, and then placed the sticks in the incense burner.

Wu Yun also offered three sticks of incense. After wiping away the dust from the surrounding area, he called to Qi Fei, "Let’s go! We’ll head to your house now and drop off the gifts for your parents!"

When the two of them returned to where they had parked, a small crowd of curious onlookers had gathered not far from the Rolls-Royce. The presence of several foreigners in the car made the scene even more of a spectacle.

When Hawkeye saw Wu Yun and Qi Fei returning, he made a point of getting out to open the car door for them.

’Of course, Wu Yun didn’t think this had anything to do with the New Year’s red envelopes he’d given the four of them.’

Only after the convoy had driven away did the curious onlookers begin to animatedly discuss the identities of the "golden couple," Wu Yun and Qi Fei.

Speaking of Qi Fei’s family villa in Jingyang, Wu Yun had actually been there once before, but he had only been downstairs and had never actually gone inside.

After a brief wait at the guardhouse, the three cars drove into the residential complex, leaving the guard with a look of stunned surprise on his face.

Because it was the New Year, there were many more cars in the complex than usual, with vehicles parked along the sides of the road in some areas.

Fortunately, Qi Fei’s family lived in a standalone house, so there were two empty parking spaces right in front.

After the Rolls-Royce was parked, Liu Yan, having heard the car pull up outside, came out to greet them.

Seeing her daughter get out of the car with a handsome young man, Liu Yan broke into a smile and hurried over.

"Mom~" Qi Fei said affectionately, hugging her mother. Counting the time, Qi Fei hadn’t been home for a whole semester and really missed her parents.

Liu Yan and Qi Fei looked very much alike, at least in Wu Yun’s opinion. That, combined with how well she had maintained herself, made Liu Yan look more like Qi Fei’s older sister.

Furthermore, Liu Yan was about the same height as Qi Fei. Anyone who didn’t know them would have definitely mistaken them for sisters if they saw them out together.
