Rebirth in Another World as the Undead Queen
Chapter 264 : The Undead TideThe Undead Tide
"Evolution, shadow Drakehawk!"
Ten Ravens gathered here, consuming 100 Death Crystals to begin evolving.
"Ka ka ka!"
As the Ravens' bodies swelled in size, their feathers also gained a layer of metallic black sheen, evolving from their original form as crow-like creatures into hawk-like beings, and moreover, a dragon sub-species.
They now stood half a meter tall and had a wingspan of 1.8 meters. They had evolved from their former scouting undead monster forms into aerial combat units. However, as Shadow Drakehawks, they now placed more emphasis on their stealth abilities.
Yet, because their bodies were so large, using them solely as scouting units carried certain drawbacks, so new batches of Ravens would still need to be cultivated.
"Scree!"
"Good boy."
After Serea patted Little Boo on the head, he had already evolved into a level 20 Silver elite unit, while the other Drakehawks averaged at level 18, all of them bronze elites.
Serea was also thoroughly enamored with these flying units capable of various elemental attacks.
After returning to the camp to resurrect another twenty Carrion Beasts and ten Ravens, the Death Crystals were nearly depleted, but the army's strengthening had reached its maximum. Glancing at the setting sun, Serea guessed the search teams from the Four Great Tribes should be on the move by now.
Just as she thought this, she suddenly sensed a massive wave of death magic. Even the Necromancy Tower's daily yield of Death Crystals surged from 76 straight up to 102.
"What's going on?"
"It's still that same magical surge as before, but this time it's much more dangerous."
Dogsius reminded her, and right afterwards, Doluka was seen rushing toward her.
"Serea, My Queen!"
"What happened?"
"C... Chief Aruka discovered...a...a large wave of Undead...is charging this way."
Doluka gasped for breath, clearly having rushed here in a hurry. Upon hearing the news of a large Undead wave approaching, Serea gave no further orders and immediately led her people toward the wall.
Upon ascending the wall, Aruka was already preparing to meet the assault and saw Serea arrive.
"Queen Serea."
"Where are the Undead, how many of them, give me the specifics."
"Six kilometers southeast of the camp, the main force are Skeletons, with even more Zombies among them. Hard to estimate the exact number at the moment, but that's from about ten minutes ago. By now, they're probably only four kilometers out, still southeast."
"Have our patrols returned?"
"They're back, except Flosa at the cave outpost just received the notification and it's unlikely he can return in time."
"Maintain contact at all times. If there's danger, reinforce immediately."
"Understood."
After giving commands, Serea whistled, and Chips pounced, hooking his four claws onto the city wall.
"Celia, come with me."
Bringing Celia along, the two of them mounted Chips and soared skyward. It was Serea's first time riding a flying mount, and she was still a bit uneasy, but thankfully Dogsius was also with her. Galloping through the sky, it only took a few short minutes before they were soaring above the Undead tide.
Looking down, Serea's brow furrowed slightly.
"System, report the numbers."
System: Zombies, 1,072; Skeletons, 195; Carrion Beasts, 78; Skeleton Warriors, 6; Abominations, 2; Death Knight, 1. Average level: 10.
The average level was only 10, but that was lowered by all the Zombies. Serea's gaze locked onto the Death Knight at the center of the Undead tide—it was level 32, and a Gold elite.
"Let's take a look at the other side."
She turned the beast's head, wings flapping. With a lash of its tail, chips skimmed low over the ground, slashing down a dozen Zombies in a single sweep.
"Sha sha sha!"
The Undead howled up at him furiously, but could do nothing about it. A few flying Carrion Beasts tried to intercept, but were all torn to pieces by Chips and devoured.
After dashing off, Serea turned back once to look at the spectacular wave of Undead.
"There are high-level Undead among them, but even when attacked, they don't chaotically chase the enemy. It's as if they have a clear objective. Seems like these Undead are all being controlled by someone."
Having said this, Serea inspected the outpost, where only small groups of Zombies were attacking, but the resident Skeletons could easily defend the position.
"Looks like I was right—the Undead are targeting our camp."
Having confirmed this, she returned to the camp, and after learning the specifics, began to draw up a battle plan. But if asked who was controlling the Undead...
Maregof, and the one behind him—definitely!
And for the long-hidden Undead tide to erupt now, Serea guessed that Maregof was getting desperate, which also meant that the searchers from the Four Great Tribes had arrived, but their situation would be extremely dangerous.
Thinking thus, Serea entrusted letters to the Ravens to send to each major tribe.
Meanwhile, over in Maregof's base camp...
...
Puchi!
The tentacle of an aberrant ogre drained a naga of all her blood, adding another corpse to the ground.
Seeing his fallen teammates, the dwarf was terrified.
"Maregof, you... you actually dare attack us!"
The dwarf loudly accused a short man in a black robe, who glanced at him disdainfully while holding a veiled young woman.
"Blame yourselves for coming here to die,"
Maregof replied from within his black robe. The dwarf retorted angrily.
"You vile scum, betrayer of the alliance! We've already sent out the message—soon the tribes will unite and hunt you down. You will pay for your crimes!"
"Heh, so noisy."
He pointed at the dwarf. Instantly, terror overtook the dwarf's face; he collapsed silently to his knees and died.
Looking at the thirty-person search party in the camp, maregof clenched his fist. The power in his body intoxicated him; he was addicted to it.
"How many more sacrifices do we need?"
He asked the man at his side, whose answer was:
"Counting the 200 warriors in the combined armies from the tribes outside the camp, we still need 300 more."
"Still 300? We've slaughtered so many tribes already, and it's still not enough to reach one thousand sacrifices?"
"Hehehe, remember, not all lives are fit for Sacrifice. Only strong and vibrant warriors qualify. Right now, we just need 300 more of such candidates to begin the ritual."
His tone was laced with temptation, and at this point, maregof couldn't resist any further.
"Then let's begin the war. We'll use the lives of those who dare to resist to complete the Sacrifice."
"That certainly is a workable idea, Lord Maregof. However, there's a risk with your method."
"What risk?"
"Now that we've started attacking the search parties, you've revealed yourself completely. Facing the alliance of the entire jungle, I fear there won't be enough time."
"Then, in your view, where should we get the 300 strong warriors from?"
Maregof fell for the bait and asked the question. The man grinned.
"Aren't they right here?"
At first Maregof was puzzled, but then realization dawned and he fell into deep thought.
