Rebirth in Another World as the Undead Queen
Chapter 277 : Morzada's ResolutionMorzada's Resolution
"Camilla..."
A soft whisper reached her ears. Camilla slowly opened her eyes, but all she saw was black, formless chaos.
"I am..."
Lost in confusion, Camilla recalled what had happened.
She had entered the Soulslaying Barrier to awaken Beverly—or rather, morzada.
"Am I already dead..."
That thought made Camilla tremble with fear.
"Are you so afraid? If you're scared, why did you risk your life to come here?"
"Because..."
Hearing that familiar voice, Camilla almost blurted out, "Because you're Beverly," but she stopped herself. This wasn't Beverly. This was Morzada. Everything had simply been a self-deceiving fantasy.
She hadn't been willing to accept the truth. Even knowing Beverly was false, as long as she was willing to deceive her, Camilla was willing to believe—even if the act was full of flaws...
Thinking these things, Camilla slowly raised her head. In the darkness, morzada's soul stood there, now in Beverly's form.
"Morzada..."
Looking down, Camilla saw blue specks of light appearing in the air—her own soul was dissipating. Soon, the Soulslaying Barrier would completely tear her apart.
Suddenly, someone hugged her.
Startled, Camilla looked up. Morzada, using Beverly's body, was holding her in his arms.
"Don't be afraid. As the woman chosen by me, I won't let you die so easily."
"You..."
"Even if it costs my own life!"
As he spoke, morzada's soul began to burn fiercely. As a lich specialized in "soul," just how powerful was the strength contained within his soul?
It was immeasurable!
"What are you trying to do?"
"Send you back. But next time, don't let yourself be fooled again."
Morzada's lips curled into a smile. That smile vanished completely when Morzada's soul burned away.
"Morzada!"
Camilla reached out, wanting to hold on, but the manifestation of Morzada as Beverly had already disappeared. Immediately after, dizziness swept over her and Camilla lost consciousness.
......
On the battlefield, the Dark Barrier was about to vanish. Serea was more than capable of escaping with her own power now, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. She had to look after everyone while facing two Demon Lords.
She swung her silver fan, sending out another round of Shadow Constellation.
Seeing this, alysta raised a blood shield around herself and Adolf. After a violent explosion, the blood shield disappeared. Both of them suffered varying degrees of injury, and of course, so had Serea during the battle.
"You've already lost. If you surrender now, maybe we can spare your life. Of course, only yours,"
Adolf said, explaining why he was willing to spare her.
Adolf wanted to study the dragon power within Serea's body, while Alysta coveted Serea's perfect control over the Blood Spring. This forced them to capture Serea—though what would happen afterward was obvious. Serea would never compromise, but...
Outside the now-vanished Dark Barrier, the rest of the group had taken up defensive positions. Skeleton was in front, the others behind. They'd retreated to their formation and could barely hold out for a while longer, but not for long.
Seeing Serea distracted, alysta used a blood clone to launch a surprise attack. Sensing the blood clone about to self-destruct, Serea didn't retreat in time and was tainted by the cursed blood.
Feeling weak, Serea looked at the two, now realizing they had surrounded her to prevent any escape.
What should she do now? Fighting on meant a slow death, but if she tried to run...
Just as this thought crossed her mind, a streak of light shot up from within the black light pillar.
"Mm!!!"
She looked over and saw a pair of blue eyes opening, first calm, then filled with hatred. Those eyes stared intently at Adolf and Alysta.
"Still trying to hold on? With my cursed blood in you, you..."
Alysta and Adolf's full attention was on Serea. They hadn't noticed the impending danger.
Swish!
It was a blue chain. Its tip was a sharp blade, which stabbed into Alysta's chest.
There was no pain, but the sight of that blade made Alysta's face fill with terror. She and Adolf turned their heads slowly.
"Morzada!" x2
Adolf and Alysta shouted in unison.
"You two aren't worthy of calling my name!"
The chain tightened. Alysta felt completely restrained, her abilities and movements sealed at the soul level by magic.
Everything had changed. Taking advantage of this, Serea didn't attack but instead focused on dealing with the curse. If the curse deepened, she'd have no strength left to fight.
Seeing Morzada attack Alysta, Adolf watched warily.
"Impossible—you can't have broken free of restraint!"
"Maybe others can't, but I can."
As Morzada spoke, Adolf sensed the power within him and his eyes went wide.
"You're actually burning your own soul!"
Alysta's face also showed utter shock.
"You're insane—mad!"
"Heh. If you don't pay a price, how can you have your revenge?"
Morzada's voice was cold, his expression calm—but beneath that calm lay hidden killing intent.
With his soul burning and a renewed body, morzada's strength far surpassed the two who'd just revived. He was level 50 at least. Adolf also understood—if he became Morzada's enemy now, the entire situation would reverse.
"Listen, morzada, don't forget your identity and our mission,"
Adolf pleaded.
"That doesn't matter anymore."
"No, think about it. You're alive now, just like us. In time, we could return to our peak. When that happens..."
The chain tightened as Alysta struggled. Seeing the anger in Morzada's eyes, Adolf realized there was no turning back.
But Morzada's soul was nearly spent; he had only lasted this long because he was a soul-specialized "lich."
He had only about one minute left!
"You idiot woman, I can't hold her for long. You'd better take your shot,"
Morzada called to Serea, offering to help her.
His goal was simple.
Revenge. Betrayers must pay the price. More importantly...
These two dared to hurt Camilla. If they lived, Camilla would never be safe. That danger had to be eliminated for her sake.
As for the "great mission" he once carried...
Heh. The moment Adolf betrayed him, it became meaningless. He would burn away his soul for the woman who never betrayed and always trusted him.
"Lord of the Underworld!"
Soul power erupted. At Alysta's feet, a complex blue spell circle appeared. Four blue statue phantoms rose, the chains from their mouths locking Alysta in place.
"Ughhh!"
The soul-searing pain made Alysta struggle violently, but once Morzada marked someone's soul, there was no escape. As the Lord of Wailing Spirits, second only to Laviel among the five, anyone who dared betray him would meet a horrific end—torn apart by myriad vengeful spirits!
"Now!"
Morzada shouted to Serea, and she knew what to do.
Her hand rose, chanting a profound incantation. A black dot formed near Alysta.
Gravity surged. Sensing danger, Adolf quickly backed away, and though Alysta struggled, with her body under the "Lord of the Underworld's" control, she couldn't break free.
The black dot slowly expanded. Alysta shot a pleading look at Morzada, but his eyes were ice-cold and full of hatred.
"Adolf!"
Turning for help, she found Adolf already lunging at Morzada, claws ready.
With Morzada casting "Lord of the Underworld," he couldn't interrupt his skill, forced to watch as Adolf's sharp tentacle pierced through his chest.
Splat!
Morzada and Adolf stared at each other. Looking into Morzada's eyes, Adolf truly understood what "terror" meant.
Morzada gave a slight smile. Then his battered body plummeted rapidly.
Was it over?
No—far from it. A mass of black energy rushed into Adolf's body.
Soul possession!
"Ahhh!"
Adolf screamed in agony as his soul was torn apart bit by bit.
Inside the mind realm, their souls faced off. Although this was Adolf's home turf, in a soul duel, not even Laviel at her peak could match Morzada.
A black sphere extended countless chains, restraining Adolf's soul as the black orb crept closer.
"Trai... Traitor..."
Morzada's voice was weak. He had nothing left to give.
Eat him!
The black sphere swelled, trying to devour Adolf's soul. Darkness closed in on him, filling Adolf with terror.
"No!!!"
His scream rang out. The darkness right in front of him stopped, then receded like the tide.
Morzada's figure appeared again, those angry eyes fading with his body, until all that was left was complete disappearance.
The once-mighty Lord of Wailing Spirits—his soul burned away, utterly gone...
Adolf, surviving by a hair, felt lucky that Morzada's remaining soul was so broken. Grateful but alarmed, he hurriedly returned to the physical world.
With Morzada's soul dissipated, the spell restraining Alysta also vanished.
Freedom!
No, not yet!
Serea had been preparing her dragon magic. Casting the spell in that instant left her utterly drained—this was an attack that used up all her mental power.
Dong!
It was as if something broke. After the sound, the frost dragon quickly returned to Serea's side. In the next second, the black dot rapidly expanded into a giant black vortex.
Tear, crush, compress...
The powerful gravity upheaved the ground and shattered the ice. At the center, alysta tried to maximize her telekinesis against the force, but it only dragged her closer.
"No! Adolf, help me!"
Adolf extended a tentacle from his sleeve, grabbing her.
With combined effort, they barely resisted being pulled into the vortex's center. The two blood demon and Devourer Broodworm were not so lucky—frozen and then torn to bloody shreds by the vortex. After their last howls, both perished in the black maelstrom.
Dragon magic—"Gaze of the Dark Eye"!
Though Serea didn't possess the power to swallow everything yet, the spell was still equal to most sixth-tier magic.
Alysta was still some distance from the vortex and had a chance to escape, so Adolf threw everything he had into helping her.
"Yes—almost out!"
Seeing herself slowly pulling away from the vortex, alysta grew excited.
But Serea couldn't interrupt the spell even if she wanted to. And don't forget—Kaedisha (the frost dragon) was still there!
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
A freezing current gathered in Kaedisha's ribcage: "Cryostorm," a powerful area-burst 4th-tier ice spell. With Alysta and Adolf immobilized by the vortex, they couldn't dodge.
As the attack came, alysta panicked while Adolf showed an unexpectedly calm expression.
That expression made Alysta feel a sense of foreboding.
"Adolf..."
"There's no other way. Someone must complete our mission, and someone must be sacrificed,"
Adolf said flatly.
"No, you can't—I trusted you so much!"
"Don't worry. I'll resurrect you when I get the chance."
As soon as those words left him, Adolf sent out more tentacles, seizing the bone earring and black gemstone from Alysta. Then he simply severed the tentacle that held her.
"Ah!!!"
With a terrible scream, alysta's body was dragged into the black vortex and vanished.
With that, Serea immediately stopped casting—the vortex disappeared, and she was left with almost no mental power.
Now, only a few demon wyverns and Adolf were left on the battlefield. The outcome was decided.
Adolf retracted his tentacles, about to collect the bone earring and black gemstone.
Swish!
A black shadow leapt high—it was Little Black.
"!!!"
With only a left hand, Little Black swung his bone claws at the tentacles.
Rip!
The tentacles were severed, causing the bone earring and black gemstone to fall.
"Stop!"
A frantic Adolf directed his remaining tentacles to snatch them, and a blast of dark energy shot at Little Black.
While falling, Little Black could only reach the earring. As his claw seized it, the blast struck him.
Boom!
Little Black was slammed into the ground, sliding far away. After a few rolls, his bone armor shattered, revealing jet black bones underneath.
Seeing this, Serea wanted to retaliate, but she had just used up all her mental power.
"Roar!"
Cryostorm burst forth. At the critical moment, Adolf hugged the black gemstone, enduring the full impact.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
Where the cold wind swept, all was frozen.
